Inside and Out

On the outside you see a smile,
One that can be seen for a mile,
It may even last a while,
But is slowly eroded by a file.

On the inside, they see nothing but the dark,
So deep and black and cold, not even a spark,
With sorrow cutting so deep, it leaves a mark.

You see long sleeves over their wrist,
A small detail you certainly missed.

Gone forever, never to be seen again.

High School Sweet Hearts

A boy and girl meet
By being dared to dance
Afraid to step on each others' feet
They take an awkward stance.

Seems like an insignificant meeting,
After all it was only junior high
However their feelings were not fleeting
As years have since passed by.

Classmates saw their relationship and turned green,
Because they saw the couple, and wanted the same;
A bond so strong it gave off a glittering sheen.
Their love so fierce, so strong, only a miracle could tame.

They hope one day to marry,
But are still too young,
So each other's burden they will carry,
Until that fateful day can come.

Their relationship was far ahead of its time,
For it is a bond that cannot be broken.
Together-always will fight through grime;
This description of their love isn't whole, but only a token.

Fighter

Carrying the weight on my shoulders,
That of hers and that of mine,
Always pressing like a boulder,
I say "No worries, everything's fine."

Keeping my head held high,
Convincing myself I am strong.
I hold back tears- she doesn't see me cry,
But it's been too long.

Standing alone, blade in hand,
Anything to make the load lighter.
The blood stops coming, upright I stand.
Perhaps after all, I'm not a fighter.

Running

Running down the long, curvy, hilly road
The monsters closing in behind
My legs are struggling to carry the load
But it's difficult to outrun my mind.

The monsters slobbering, growling, running like dogs
Constantly chasing, constantly gaining ground
I lift my feet to avoid the logs
But every time they catch me with a bound

I know I must face these hellish things-
The shadows that overwhelm me-
These monsters take down kings-
So I'll make a last attempt to flee.

Faces

So many faces, which ones do you believe?
So many faces, but what do you see?
So many faces, new ones every day.
So many faces, does yours stay the same?

Some faces change day after day,
Each time you see them, the look a different way.

So many words, which ones do you believe?
So many words, but what do you hear?
So many words, new ones every day.
So many words, but what do they mean?

An adjective, a verb, a noun;
Is all it takes to bring a man down.
