Bacon, Morning and Camping

The smell permeated tents and campers
A mixture of smoke from the camp fire
And the smell of bacon cooking
Was like an unmistakable beacon
Like a loud speaker telling all in the area
That breakfast was cooking
Enhancing an insatiable appetite
That hit the pit of your stomach like a freight train
Slowly one by one people were awakening
Coming out of their shelters of the night
The weather is sweet with morning dew
And the smell that lingers
Tantalizes the taste buds of all around
The one doing the cooking sincerely regrets
That not enough bacon was purchased
To feed the whole camp.

My Two Little Boys

He was only 4 months old
When he was placed in my arms
He was abused, sad and only a puppy
Give him a good home is all he said
I cried when he handed me that sad eye'd little guy
He was full of energy as he zipped about
He was my boy there was no doubt
At 10 o'clock every night
He would run down the hall ready for bed
He'd stand there and wine till I picked him up
Wrestling on the bed became an evening ritual
Then we would snuggle in for a night of rest
He became my personal protector
Growl and snap at anyone he thought would hurt me
He was my friend and his coat absorb many a tear
He gave me comfort in times of need
His little heart was a big as he
We would go for rides, but he loved to camp
Ice cream from Dairy Queen was our favorite snack
We have since added another to our little circle
They lie belly up in the bright sunshine
I look in their eyes and can't deny it
No other human could love them as much as I
They like to be seen and love to be heard
Their real names are Teddy Jay and Toby Michael
Oh, sweet little dogs that won my heart
Ears flopping, dark brown eyes never fail to delight
Each morning they join me in bed
Till I rise up and take them outside for a while
My sweet little Beagles their toys strung about
Their small, their cute they are under my feet
But truth be told, although I scold and reprimands
They still greet me at the door their little tails wagging
Their bright eyes alive with glee
Showing their love for me
But when I doubt what life's all about
And I question all I feel inside
And when my heart in torn apart
And when I cry all alone
One snuggles my neck the other my hand
And to my surprise I realize they understand.

The Meadow of Childhood

In a green grassy meadow
In the middle of the wood
Where I so long ago played
Hours of fun frolicking in the grass
Lying beside the creek
Listening to the waters
Watching them ripple over rocks
Whispering a sweet lullaby
I would wade in the cool water
Or just read a book
Eat apples from the trees
That surrounded the low lying grass land
Flowers filled the air with fragrance
So rich from their blossoms
It was a playground from God
Where I could enjoy an afternoon
In the sun that shone pure as gold.

A Sight God Created

A single sunflower grew
Where none should have grown
Nurtured by God with sunshine and rain
No soil was used but it continued to grow
It's fragile stalk grew about one foot tall
A yellow sunflower smiled down at me
High in the crook of an old elm tree
A sight God created for me to see
A lesson I've learned from that lovely flower
It didn't question about how it grew
Or what would happened to it tomorrow
But instead it put it's trust
In God's awesome wondrous powers
For even the sunflower is precious to Him
A sunflower growing where none should be
Is a testimony to His greatness
How I wish I was like that wonderful flower
Glorifying God in all that I do
I can learn from you, my flowering friend
By growing strong and steadfast
In the direction of his Light
Letting God be the Gardner of my soul
With all my heart I'll worship Him
Proclaiming his glory through the land.

A Page In Time

A page in time silently turned today
In tears we watched you fade away
Our hearts are broken over you
But when we saw you sleeping
Peacefully free from pain
We could not ask you back
To suffer once again
You may no longer be in our lives
But in our heart you will always be
Bless the memories you left behind
Let them be our keepsakes
Memories that will never tarnish or grow old
Sadly we'll miss you along life's way
So we will grieve a while for you
Then let our grief be comforted
It's only a while that we must part
You were gone before we knew it
Only God know why.

Bondage

Evil has no easy explanation
Will they hate you for what you did
To them as a helpless child
The memory will not go away
The wounds will never heal
The evil that you did to them
Will not soon depart
Time will merely make them whole
It is a crime that cannot be forgiven
One which no punishment can be enough
Yet people like you will continue
And the children will still be raped, abused
Made an actor of evil abuse
They will be fondled, forced, defiled,
By those who cannot help but evil be
Those to whom no cure is certain
You can pay your debt to society
But you cannot change what happened to them
Yes, they are children much loved
Viewing their agonies to painful
The lashes of life we cannot see
Just by looking at them
The emotional scars deep within
Hoping to find a way to escape
I pray for your victims
Whose who had their childhood joys taken away
At such an early age
I pray that God has enough grace for you
I pray you will never hurt a child again
I pray that one day these child will be set free
From the bondage you created in their souls.

My Purpose

My purpose was to prove them wrong
To prove my friend did not make those calls.
That was not like him to do those things
That made another fear his name.
She was not the only one
At least a dozen he did call.
How could he have me been so bold
To use the phone for his sexual calls.
I set and wonder how he would feel
If someone would do the same to him.
To hide the fact of what he did
He said she did it unto him.
She did not know the man
Who 78 times called her phone.
But I know who made those calls
I sat and watched him at payphones.
A business man, a jeweler in our town
Was the one who made those offensive calls.

I Like the Sound of America

The children at church put on a play,
While looking into an old trunk,
They found many treasures.
A bugle they could barely blow,
An old army coat of an ancestor,
And an old drum from the military too.
They sang songs about America,
But, "God Bless America" now I like the sound of that.
The others were songs about liberty and freedom,
Liberty and freedom are such great words.
These words represent you and me,
Living free in this great nation.
Where we have religious freedom,
Freedom to recite the pledge,
Freedom to use the phrase,
"One Nation Under God.”
To see 'In God We Trust' on our money.
We have the Liberty Bell which rang out freedom.
There is the silence of the mountains,
And the roar of the ocean.
The laughter of children at play,
Church bells ringing,
And people kneeling in prayer.
The sound of the flag as it unfurls in the wind.
The sound of a parade celebrating,
Those who fought for our freedom.
The word America sounds great,
It is one of the best sounding words I've ever heard.
Yes I like the sound of America,
Home of the free and the brave.
That is where I want to be.

The Dance

The Dance

As moonlight sifted upon the grass
And stars shimmering in the dark
I watched him walk into the arena
Slowly he began to danced
His feet moving to the beat of the drum
And the soft chanting of the singers
The fringe on his regalia
Flowed outward in the breeze
His face raised to the moon
A hint of a smile upon his lips
Eyes shinning like fire light
He danced dipping high and low
Twirling and whirling round and round
One leg in the air the other stepping down
Does his feet not feel the wet grassy earth
He dances unaware others are watching him
I take a drink of water to wet my parched dry lips
As I sit and watch with awe and wonder
Soon what was one in the circle grew
As other men silently joined him
Around and around they go in the circle
Lifting themselves high
Letting no dust gather under their feet
I watch as my heart pounded in my chest
My breath came faster with each of their steps
My mind began spinning around with them
I wondered if they could continue on like this
Then the drums and the chanting came to an end
Then their feet once again
Stood firm on the land.

Fall Walk

It was the perfect autumn day
Bright and cool with a breezy wind
That blew the clouds about
On the spur of the moment I get an idea
With my grandsons hands in mine
We walked down the road
There was something joyous about the sights
I discovered peace flowing through me
Indian summer sun colored the world around us
The leaves along the way have turned
Crimson, yellow, gold and orange
We watched leaves falling through the branches
Dancing throughout the air as they floated to the ground
It was a gorgeous day, sun shining through the trees
As tiny dust particles floated throughout the air
We stopped at the creek and watched
The water as it rippled over the rock
Babbling on to no one in particular
We picked up pine cones and rocks
Their pockets were stuffed full with keepsakes
We ambled along the roadside
We picked dandelions, blowing their seeds
We gathered wild flowers and collected acorns
Then I slowly walked back home with two tired boys.
