The Tempest, Painting by Michael Cheval

You pull me from the depths of forevers of thought
elegantly twirled, though evidently caught
shaped by the vortex, virtuoso of pain
fluctuating truths from half flailing to half slain

the mirror of water I'd rather not see
if I peer in I see reflections of me
   contorting with torment unnecessarily
ashamed that no peace ever sets me free

You hold my gaze, distract me from chaos
thoughts enter like an out of control seance
posture determined, focus enduring
soothed by the constant, sustained reassuring

the mirror exists even if out of view
if I peer away could harmony accrue
contorting decreases with distraction of you
ashamed that I'm made up of all that's taboo

Composure of surface, compelling retreat
insight I can change, the demons defeat
held in your arms, a captor intense
stronger even though you breached my defence

the mirror must smash, pieces be washed away
if I peer beyond self I can change, this I pray
   contorting replaced with stillness display
ashamed it may only be maintained for one day

Domenico Gatti - Purita

I arise from a field of wishes
     stillness, caught
        an absence of a breeze
     dandelion clocks, unscattered

 dazed half a lifetime
       yet now
my hands clasp every desire -
   to be outside of time
          inner chaos calmed
     yet the world stands still
  opposing tranquility
   words fail, wants curtailed -
           I kneel, entranced by proximity
  devastated by distance
such closeness to a dream
    ~ a death in itself ~

    I am without reflection
 without air in my lungs
  dormant, breathless
aware of all I lack
 consciousness ~ a spiralling wind
       that can whip away
   this one wish -
      of you
  within arms reach
           holding my gaze
bringing me back to my senses

        oh dandelion deliver
    the softest kiss
I wish, I pray, I reminisce
            there's nothing more I ask
    but this

Nightmare

"You are welcomed to your room at night, everything is in the same familiar place. It's been long day. Climbing in to your comfy bed. Switching off the light. Nothing bad can happen"
Quote by Poet
Anything can incite the beginning Because the nightmare lurks and skulks and sneers Clock ticks and tocks Don't think about staying awake Everything you do brings it one breath closer Forget the day, this is the night Grabbed by the dark at every blink of your eyelids Have you woken or are you sleeping? Inescapable dreamland Jolt awake Kafkaesque visions flickering into view Leap out of bed, quickly clamber back in Midnight lollops past, unsoothingly Nictitating membrane, can't see shhh! Opaque, shadowy, engulfing shapes dissipate Piecing fragments together Question your surroundings, your sanity Resolve to avoid the thoughts, it's ok Safely drifting off, sliding, succumb to sleep Taken, snatched in! Undulations of rest. and startles. Vanishing strength, leaden weight, sleep Wake up! Xerographical visions print black on black You don't know if your eyes are open or closed Zzzzzap! GOT YOU. Grabbed and held in the NIGHTMARE................... ................................. ........................... ............................. ....................... .............. ...... .... .. . Chef's kiss to the AI posters

What is the point of presenting with AI
It's just a lie, a lie, a lie
You get the credit, people praise high
But you're deceiving with a lie

It's not just that but you waste our time
Put in none of your own selecting a rhyme
Low level if we are talking a crime
But I steal none of your day, don't steal mine

I'd love a moment for you to reflect
Explain to us why you're so brass necked
Future friendships you've already wrecked
Damaging a community with what you inject

Surely poetry is about presenting identity
Faking that is quite the obscenity
You my not friend are doubly a non entity
I'm miffed because you offset my serenity

I should read contest winners and go wow
Check out POTD and it not be dog chow
Yes defenders will show up all holier than thou
You will all get away with it somehow

But there's a cost and it is this
Real poets disappear and them I miss
The whole site is falling into this fake abyss
Yeah kudos to you, chef's kiss, chef's kiss!

Study of Birds

to cage a bird to understand
only illustrates your sleight of hand
watch them gently in the wild
then you'll understand my child

Constructor of my Own Chaos

This poem was written alongside the painting Pentimento by Sally Storch.

I absorbed the image, beyond the capture -
        it soaked into my throat
   saturated, became the ever-after
    eyes are unseeing but for zoetrope;
         all voices state an overlay:
    "what a lovely day"
          "what a lovely day"
as I lose my grip on hope

sorry to be negative -
     I didn't want this role
I'll pocket it, that's my goal
- to control - to hold still
     to freeze the frame
self-distraction from the weight of blame

I could engulf my senses - roses lie close
just a tilt of my head
  I'd be no longer morose
let me turn, observe, fully immerse
may I pick one, tear it up, roll in the petals
          invite a curse
let the thorns cut through, make me bleed
as I take this chain from my neck, be freed
in this image, I am trapped
do you not see it yet?
         I see through this lens:
four corners, no exit, no end
       an uncrossable border
  I just need to escape
           assemble my own order
see clearly the scene with a world around
walk on, leave behind the ugly foreground
the backdrop blurred but waits to be found
throw you the camera, shout "catch!" defiantly
leave images to crop, perspective to see

all that matters is it's not in my head
if I'm unsteady, I'll work with it -
  I'm still, not dead
Hell: I'll cartwheel out and free
    check out my core strength
refraction: you dictate no longer to me

The Narcissist Who Saved Himself - Cynthia Howard - collaboration with Ink Empress

nothing spoils this surface view ~ see me
crave attention, gift empty touch
tonal mask veils flaws and vices
face alter ego and kneel

to feed the shallow shadow that circles
~ around gossamer tears of the grieving moon,
as silenced streaks of tongue-twisted lines,
undress a puddle of poisoned stars

pull force imperceptible, attraction
lost in blissful contemplation
comatose until that last equation
gravitational persuasion creating longing

but will the lake that flows with fears
thaw words tangled in golden chains?
for I’ve drowned in liquified lies,
drawing perfection from imperfect reflections

delve to the depths of my spun world
peripheral interference dissipates in darkness
only requirement is carved version of self
that steadies my hand and drags me in

sinking beneath Narcissus's polluted undertow
tainted oxygen leaves my expanding lungs
hitting jagged rocks, spoiled skin shreds,
exposing a forgotten empath ~ salvation rises

Ida Rentoul Outhwaite Fairy Bridget and Kookaburra

it matters to not be able to tell
    where you end
  and comfort begins
    seamlessly held by another
with nature to rest within
we're all of the same matter
    then the 'what's the matter'
is settled now
   ripples felt in the universe
      ruffle feathers but not souls
the bark is quiet
    blossoms stay open
           to lull with fragrance
with flagrant disregard
 for rules
that don't pertain
         to creating
   a sphere of safety
the soles of feet
   nor the heart are hardened
so perch
out of harms way a while
      be watched over
   and under a wing

Shiny the Sunbeam Parody Contest

Shiny the Sunbeam
Was a Summer sunshine rose
With a visor hat and a ruddy glow
And sunglasses on his nose

Shiny the Sunbeam
Is radiation they say
He was made of a UV
But all the adults see
Is their tan on holiday

There must have been some magic in
That new lotion they found
For when they slathered it on
No longer do they go brown

Shiny the Sunbeam
Is radiation they say
He was made of a UV
But all the adults see
Is their tan on holiday

midnight insight Anacreontic Verse

midnight beckons
I don't count down
just sit quite still
for fear I'll drown
inside my eyes
are memories
that's where you live
where life's a breeze
to take me back
I close them tight
I'm there with you
the sun shines bright
with extra thought
your hand's in mine
no distractions
I'm feeling fine
but I have cause
to wake and see
you are not here
I'm not carefree
just set adrift
so all alone
an empty hand
a soul unknown
new year comes in
in through my door
with the cold fact
I'm loved no more
