For the contest by Sara Jama.
This poem was written alongside the painting Pentimento by Sally Storch. I absorbed the image, beyond the capture - it soaked into my throat saturated, became the ever-after eyes are unseeing but for zoetrope; all voices state an overlay: "what a lovely day" "what a lovely day" as I lose my grip on hope sorry to be negative - I didn't want this role I'll pocket it, that's my goal - to control - to hold still to freeze the frame self-distraction from the weight of blame I could engulf my senses - roses lie close just a tilt of my head I'd be no longer morose let me turn, observe, fully immerse may I pick one, tear it up, roll in the petals invite a curse let the thorns cut through, make me bleed as I take this chain from my neck, be freed in this image, I am trapped do you not see it yet? I see through this lens: four corners, no exit, no end an uncrossable border I just need to escape assemble my own order see clearly the scene with a world around walk on, leave behind the ugly foreground the backdrop blurred but waits to be found throw you the camera, shout "catch!" defiantly leave images to crop, perspective to see all that matters is it's not in my head if I'm unsteady, I'll work with it - I'm still, not dead Hell: I'll cartwheel out and free check out my core strength refraction: you dictate no longer to me

Congratulations on your well deserved win in my contest. This was a beautifully written poem. I absolutely love this line "eyes are unseeing but for zoetrope." It's not very often you see the word zoetrope in a poem. It is very much a write I would of done.

Thank you so much Sara, it was a great prompt that I had fun with. Zoetrope was in my head from a past abecedarian where I basically read every z word in existence haha. Thank again for the beautiful trophy :)

Aww this comment made me smile as I know you'd never lead me down the garden path. The 'chaos' element gave me a bit of license in the cadence but other than that I'm pleased with this one and the kind comments it has generated. Thanks for calling in Craig :)

It was either the time and effort I put into writing the poem or witchcraft - or maybe that's the same thing?

Very thought-provoking piece deserving of the honor POTD~~expressing, to me, the theme of freedom and captivity intersecting. Janice

Thank you Janice, it was an interesting contest prompt to ponder and tricky to try and get a unique angle on. Luckily paintings are a real inspiration for me and I follow a site that seems very well tuned to what I like that shares several artworks a day. This jumped out and fit beautifully. Thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot.

Densely packed poem DD... full of content...enough to feast on for a week. You have burrowed into another reality beyond the painting, giving it a depth transcending the visual. Crackles with feeling and energy..love it. Congratulations for this well deserved recognition...top shelf pick. Take care.... Paul

After looking at the photo for a few moments, this thought seems to fit how she's feeling: ' what a lovely day, as I lose my grip on hope. ' She knows the day is beautiful, yet the expression on her face reflects sadness. That's how it seems to me, anyway. Congratulations Dilly, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Thank you Brandy - the brightness of the scene does clash with her expression. It can only be imagined that she's looking on at something worth photographing but it isn't bringing joy. I just extrapolated from there. Thank you for your thoughts and kind wishes

Dear DD, Wow, how your words pulse with raw energy, tangled in the struggle between captivity and defiance. I loved how you layered the visuals which were so masterfully built, then unraveled. I thought how you didn’t just write this; you became it. POTD is well-earned. Deep respect! Winter Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Back with well deserved congratulations Dilly on a superb POTD, I can see this one in particular having long exposure on the soup and beyond if you decide to get it printed up! Shame POTD doesn’t allow the accompanying photo, it is an Ekphrasis after all! so I would advise any readers to open this one on your homepage, for maximum impact! Cheers David
