A Sojourner's Prayer

I have no place to call home
I have no man to call friend
Alone in this dreadful world
With the sky as my roof:
And the clouds as my blanket
How safe can I be?
I am a sojourner!

I go anyplace my feet can carry me
From the north to the south
And the East to the west
I don’t even know what it is I’m looking for.
But I sure hope someday I will find something
And all my efforts shall be rewarded

Lord give I Strength
To navigate through the storms
To climb high over the mountains
Until I reach my next destination
And the one after that...
Until my feet can carry me no more
I am a sojourner!

I do not spend two nights in one place
Not used to overstaying my welcome
I travel through all kinds of roads
From country roads to narrow paths!
City highways to strip roads!
Through the day and through the night
OH LORD...I need your light!

No one ever asks my name
I do not have any friends
So I call upon you OH Lord
To be my companion in this journey of life
Alone I cannot make it
Because no one is willing to walk with me
I am a sojourner!

If I had wings I would fly
Over cities and towns...villages and kraals
So my journey would be easier & fun
Too bad i only have two feet
I have to follow the long and tiresome roads
OH lord give me patience!

From one city to another...one country to the other.
At least I get to live every man's dream
To travel the world and see places
So I live to testify...
"THERE IS NOTHING OUT THERE"
I am a sojourner!

Better Life

In the Ghetto a man is born
in the ghetto a man grows
eventually, a man dies...
buried and forgotten...in the Ghetto
how long shall will live like this?

No food...!...No water!
at war against hunger & starvation
but our hands are tied
...how can we win this fight?
Government never heeds our call
hand to mouth kind of life
what about tomorrow?

They say education is the key
but i wonder where the doors at???
Graduate cum vendor
Proffessor...tyre mender!!!
unemployment rate....sky-high!
how bright is the future?

No jobs for the youths
city life too harsh & demanding
...so how can man survive?
final resolution...crime!
final destination...Jail!
for most...thats jus the end of the story
...and the cycle continues!

New industry setup...the church!
salvation is for sell
how can a poor man be saved?
a penny for a blessing
how much can a brighter future cost?

so much talent in the ghetto
music, art...and sport
but no one seems to apprecate us much
...we are from the ghetto!
with those at the top stamping on our feet
how can we climb up the ladder?

Tired of the suffering
Man cannot live forever like this
this aint no war...this aint no diss
man must unite and fight for...
...A BETTER LIFE!

Broken

I was on the verge of giving up on love
Then i met you...the prince of lies!
Made me believe there was still hope for me
You wiped the tears off my face
Looked me in the eye & told me it's all gonna be ayt
Just what i wanted to hear at that moment!

I thought about kim & kay
About Romeo and juliet too
I Actually fantasised ours being the next big thing
Coz i thought we shared something great
A love that could light up the galaxy
I guess i watched too many movies!

You made me feel like a general
In our miniature army of two
Had you asked me to start a war against the world
I would have thrown missiles without hesitation
Believing that you actually had my back!

I fell for your sweet lies
Your sugar coated tongue got me vexed...
And i got too comfortable
Oww i should have known
The devil himself was once an angel
Deception is his game & you...his agent!
A wolf in sheep's clothing
You caught me by surprise!

How could you do this to me?
You sold me fake dreams
And i bought them with my all
I actually believed you were that final piece to the puzzle of my life
With you i had become complete

SO you found someone better...was i really that bad?
Or they are just your next victim
Oww how stupid of me to think i had eventually found the one!
And now I'm nothing but just..."BROKEN"!

In My Hood

In my hood
Each man lives for himself
Screams for help are louder than music
But people listen to the music instead
Fire extinguishers filled with kerosene
Never can tell what made you burn

In my hood
People love "things"...and use people
Nothing is sacrificed for a friend
But a friend is sacrificed for anything
Love is an illusion and trust...A MYTH!
Friendship=exploitation & manipulation!
...you never really know who to let in!

In my hood
Faces are adorned with fake smiles
Yet hearts are filled with hatred
People wear clean clothes
But hearts need detergent
Pretend to love you when ur there...."Frenemies"

In my hood
Kids despise their own parents
Respect is a fairytale
Mothers are called by name
While fathers treated as peers
...the struggle is just real!

In my hood
Youths take drugs before church
...and church after drugs!
Villains hide in chapels
While the righteous are buried in the slums
How holy is the Sacrament?

In my hood
Jealous is given space on the top shelf
Success is suspicious
While poverty is the norm
Achievements are rarely recognized
But failures make headlines
...and the government is blamed for underdevelopment...REALLY?

In my hood
Good men do nothing about bad things
With fear of persecution
Evil is left to flourish
And no one seems to care
Even with the guts you can’t dare

In my hood
"YOU JUS GOTTA WATCH YOUR BACK"

Smiles Can Be Fake

Growing up
i always thought smiles a sign of happiness
a caring gesture:
that could brighten someone's day
white teeth...pink gums:
Presenting a welcoming appeal

...no one ever told me
that smiles can be fake:
a camouflage for hatred & disapproval
the currency for trading favors!
like a worm on a fisherman's hook
...appetising yet deadly!

Nowadays...people jus don't get to smile
they rather smile just to "GET"
it's not natural....no it's not!!!
like a scene on a movie :
choreographed to capture attention!
Quash Quash Quash!...
to mere instruments of deception!

Pray for the eyes to see :
to see through all the smiles!
The wisdom to discern :
all the fake from the echt!
ohhh i have seen it all...
& i live to testify:
YES...smiles can be fake!

What Happens When We Die

They say wisdom comes with age
Every day above ground is a new lesson
We look up to the elderly & wise
The Whiteheads and the patriarchs
For answers to things we don't understand

If man are really this sapient
i call upon the wise and the hoary ones
For i have a question that troubles me
Can Somebody please tell me
...what happens when we die?

Some say we become angels & fly high
A place of no pain & no cry
With our fallen kins we shall reunite
All the pain gone & forgotten
Better dead than alive!
So should we all embrace death?

My chief says we become spirits
A semi-God status we assume
Our children shall worship us
And we shall bless em accordingly
What if we die with nothing
What shall we give to our children when they ask?

My uncle believes life is a journey
And Death...the destination!
Every man is obliged to walk the journey:
Yet No one is eager to reach the final stop
Sadly, eventually we all hit the hole
And that's just the end!
Is life really this empty?

After all my question remains unanswered!
Too much speculation...too much fantasy!
Can somebody please just tell me:
What really happens when we die???

Man

I used to think feral beasts scary
With their long & sharp teeth
The aggressive & unfriendly behaviours
Always eager to get a taste...
A taste of the human flesh

Yes...i used to think animals scary
...Until i met "Man"
A creature that looks so good from the ouside
Yet so bad from the inside
His thoughts are impure
They conspire & aspire towards destroying
Hostility breeds in his heart
Yet his face is graced with smiles

His tongue spits venom
More deadly than the cobra's
A Sweet voice that speaks mean
His speech driven by spite, All listeners shall cower...
And tremble to the sound of his voice

Man is scarier than the lion
He feasts on the pain of a brother
His "sweet" comes from the sweat...
that flows on the necks of others!
Malice runs in his veins & his heart cold as snow!

Take me to the zoo...& the gameparks in my town
To all the thick jungles of the world
Where the fierce beasts breed
...At least i know what to expect there!
For among man I'm not Safe!

Please Don'T Die

They say man's life is like a shadow
here this moment gone the next
at least shadows do show again the next sunrise
Once gone...man never returns:
leaving empty spaces in the realms
...in the hearts of loved ones!

nothing lasts forever...no one lives forever!
Once born...demise is certain
like autumn leaves we shall fall
wilt, decompose...only to vanish into thin air
though our stay here is transient:
never shall i embrace death
so to all those who add meaning to my life i say:
...PLEASE DON'T DIE!

All the love...all the fun i don't wanna miss
what would i be without you Oh loved ones?
My heart...your home...Please stay closer
For together is where we belong!
The world would be a lesser place without y'all.
So Please hear me out when i say:
PLEASE DON'T DIE...i need you here!

Begone My Shadow

everywhere i go you follow
everything i do you immitate
you look a lot like me
yet we have nothing in common!
they say shadow is your name
annoying is your game
why are you tomenting me?

you do whatever you want without my consent
how can i call you friend?
?sometimes you choose to walk in front of me
seldomly pretend to be humble & follow behind!
At times feign to be my companion
walk beside me as if we are friends!
where is your honor?
i bet you mus be ashamed of yourself
nor wonder why you never show your face!

The dark is my only escape from you
but how long can a man live in darkness?
you leave me with no other option
except to stand your annoying presence
you wait patiently till i return
so you can toment me more
turn all my light into darkness..shadow why?

i hear my brother complain about you
...and my sister too!
always there but never seem to help
always there but never seem to care
maybe you are just that demon tomenting all of us
where is your consience?

why you are here...no one knows!
i sometimes think maybe yew just a reminder
that there is a little darkness in every one of us
or maybe you just take fun...
in turning the little light we have into darkness
what do you gain from that?

i think now its time for you to grow up
accept that no one wants you
we all are fed up of your dirty little tricks
just pack your bags and leave
Shadow just go away...i do'nt want you here!??

Sanctify Me

Sanctify me
for my heart heart is heavy
filled with anger and hatred
unwilling to forgive & forget
holding on to grudges and contentions
relieve me of this burden...OH LORD!

sanctify me
for my thoughts are impure
a corrupt mind that seeks to deceive
bad thoughts haunting me everyday
a pessimistic mind without faith
how long can l live like this?

Sanctify me
for my tongue is with venom
everything i say is poison
with every word that comes out of my mouth;
i can bring down mansions
woe to those who listen!

sanctify me
for my hands are dirty
desperation made me wild...touched the unholy!
now my hands are befouled
unworthy to serve you OH Lord!
sanctify me, so i can win your favor once again.
