Balls tumble; the stars shine bright.
Sparkling gems in velvet night.
Little hands that tossed at play,
Fold in dreams at the close of day.
Hopscotch chalk marks lines on ground.
Jumpers hop, spin, and whirl around.
Skipping feet move square by square.
Float on clouds that linger there.
Counting sheep goes one, then two.
Fluffy lambs drift softly through.
Each one bounds over silver streams,
Guiding hearts through woolen seams.
Songs whisper a sing-a-long tune.
Lilting rhymes to the chanting moon.
Voices join in, so sweet, so low,
catching webs that dream-weavers sow.
Close your eyes, let the starlight stay.
Rest until dawn brings the break of day.
All your games will wait for you.
When you wake up in morning's dew.

Twas the night before Christmas, yahoo!
I'm stuck in a snowglobe with you;
our bright Christmas Eve with a view
alone beneath our sky of blue.
And when the snow stops, it's our cue
to have more fun stirring flakes to
quick whirl around fast and redo
them falling and swirling anew.
Outside is just ours to review
from cozy protected see-through
clear bubble of glass. Let's pursue
enjoying our day and construe-
we're happy in our glass venue!
What more could we ask for, it's true,
here, quiet, relaxed, whoop-dee-doo!
I'm stuck in a snowglobe with you.

I inherited a worn out clipper which made me mad.
For the rest of the cousins got riches, big and bad.
One got emeralds, another got diamond rings.
I got a clipper ship, without the pirate loot of kings.
Give it a whirl around the cape, my faerie godfather said.
He is a crazy old coot, eccentric, not quite right in the head.
Now what do you think, isn’t this a bit of fun now honey?
It surely was! My clipper ship was magic, and manifested money!

Beautiful, belonging, banging, booming.
Noisy, noisome,
Scary sounds are coming for me.
And the connections whirl around me.
Scary, sounds, steaming, swirling.
Banging, clanging.
I claim these connections as my own.
And it’s like,
People think it’s childlike.
Like liking a bike.
Going back and forth and circling.
Connections become looser like gravel being spun by tires…
And so my voice is gravely.
And I am tired.

Trillions of planets whirl around a trillion suns.
Some, nestled within the lavender hearth.
Of the haloed goldilocks zone.
Are we alone - are there infinite sprigs of life.
Somewhere in that crown of delight and frightful blackness.
Would it diminish our uniqueness.
Diminish earthly achievements.
If the heaven harbored maelstroms of unearthly beings?
Maybe there's a trillion Edens.
A trillion Adams-a trillion Eves.
A trillion apple snakes-a trillion temptations.
A trillion fates of clarity and opaqueness.
A trillion light years of ignorance.
Separating a trillion truths from our genesis.

NOT ALL BIRDS OF A FEATHER
``````````
When I hear the whooping cranes
Singing their glad refrains
I know the seasons are changing fast
And we can enjoy a spring at last
``````````
These sand cranes whirl around the sky
And swoop and dive as they fly
They know the fields on the ground
Will give them food and water sound
``````````
Their only fear is of mankind
So I never expect I will find
Them close to me where I can say
I will show kindness every day
``````````
Not all beings are full of hate
And have no care for other's fate
Forever we spread God's love around
For we now know where love is found
``````````
Soon in the future we will see
Only love will always be
All creatures will be free from fright
Will whoop and play right in our sight
``````````

The Queen of Hearts was quite fed up.
"The tarts no longer are my scene!
Strawberries should drizzle down
The chin of a dainty Queen.
The tarts are firm and therefore fail
To give the strawberries a chance
To whirl around my mouth nor grant
My royal tongue the will to dance!
So to spare my breath,
My lungs the depth
To scream, "Off with your head!"
By tea and cake
This afternoon,
I want ice cream instead.
What flavour? Dare you ask?
Why strawberry you fool!
This dish must be just as I wish
For your Queen starts to drool."

Snake
You may be poised to celebrate
As shadows whirl around us
I feel you might be premature
As destiny has found us
The children cower in the dark
But hope will flick the light on
The power of fear is banished
As the King enters to fight on
So here we stand defiant
As the page is slowly turning
This chapter in the book of love
Is all about returning
No matter how you hiss and spit
Your venom is redundant
An antidote to all our woes:
Our spiritual incumbent
Is waiting in the wings
The stage is set and ready
Life is the play, and freedom sings
This plot twist sweet and heady
So shuffle on my footless friend
Your days are small in number.
We've rolled the reddened carpet out
The King's not dead.
Just rising from His slumber..

I am exhausted from this dance with misery.
I feel faint at the intenseness of my tribulations.
My sudden spirit lingers in the shadows of despair.
I no longer want to whirl around in the turbulent winds of iniquity.
I wish to be free of black vipers snapping at my heels.
Release me O'Lord from this burdensome fever of condemnation.
I wish to alienate myself from corrupt disparities in this vast darkness and bathe in the sun.
The thirst of my soul desires a quenching sip of thou divine grace.
Let me dine on peace and spiritual prosperity.
Give me the strength to shed this evil raiment.
Let me rest my weary soul on the road to redemption.

Light lemon colored skies to see
On the horizon, so pretty
Across the white, snow covered land
Peace amidst more than I can stand
Problems whirl around like a storm
But here, it is the quiet norm
A peaceful piece of creation
A still picture of salvation
The air is cold, but fresh to breathe
Cleansing all things that make me seethe

Have you ever felt pain
way deep inside
That it touches where
your happiness hides
Where your joy once had
lived in peace
Making your get up and
go now cease
You stop trying to hide
behind a fake smile
When you can't find a thing
that's worth while
And when you try to speak
you only cry
Not caring anymore to
even just try
You can't bare to lift
yourself out of bed
Thoughts all whirl around
in your head
Emotionless, no happy,
no sad, no fear
Only coherent thought is
"How'd I get here?"

in the corner
of smoke filled pool hall
you sat peering
as you quaffed another beer
your umber eyes
locked in the beryl
of mine
lost temporarily
in the depths
you flashed a smile
that seemed to glow
beneath the dimmed lights
my eyes unlocked
in a downward shift
as i couldn't help but notice
the shimmer of gold
contouring your neck
its intricate design
delicately detailed
of the Christ child
as he hung
on splintered wood
when he died
in vain for our sins
my heart skipped
with the soft music
in the background
you approached
hands extended
I trusted in God,
then in you
a whirl around
as months flew by
like fists in rage
now memories flash back
in my wondering;
would you have worn
splintered wood instead
for salvation of your sins?

A step or two slower
Expectations lower
You don't fit in so well
Withdrawn in your shell
Your colleagues look younger
You don't have their hunger
More frequent, your blunders
Boss smiles; they don't stun her
You miss work 'cos you're sick
And don't get better so quick
When you return, you're not well
Your commute can be hell
Whispers about you abound
Your thoughts whirl around
Yet maybe they're wrong
Why's the day seem so long?
Now the company's been sold
Will they get rid of the old
Those past their prime

By the pond, gloomy thoughts fail me
As I linger to watch ivory shadows drift on--
Elegant their agile movements along water ‘s trail
Different from the restless gait of my body,
With a spine drooping low as duskfall ebbs:
Out of wonder, my bleak eyes marvel
At a bird-dance rivering unto night’s harmony,
Where flutters of plume bounce sublime
Like velvet outlines robed in pearled wings.
Through this glide, I ache for hearth’s peace
Where trials seek a caress of kin's affinity,
That lounging around to feed my arrogance,
Swans suddenly whirl around me , gentle as moon’s climb...
How I, enlightened by this warmth find bliss
Till I stride past the pond and race home to my flock.

Winter Hope
When Winter winds begin to whirl around
and whisper through my long and lonely days,
I’ll light the fire and stoke it with a poem
and hope I find some comfort in a phrase.
When flowers in my garden turn to seed,
and all the trees stand naked in the field,
I’ll plant a poesy on my window sill
and hope I find contentment in its yield.
When daylight seems scarce as a fresh-cut rose,
and darkness settles in for months on end,
I’ll write a song to keep me company
and hope the melody will be well penned.
The winter chill will not discourage me,
when I can create hope with poetry.
