Have You

Have you ever felt pain
way deep inside
That it touches where
your happiness hides
Where your joy once had
lived in peace
Making your get up and
go now cease
You stop trying to hide
behind a fake smile
When you can't find a thing
that's worth while
And when you try to speak
you only cry
Not caring anymore to
even just try
You can't bare to lift
yourself out of bed
Thoughts all whirl around
in your head
Emotionless, no happy,
no sad, no fear
Only coherent thought is
"How'd I get here?"

Brenda, three in my family struggle with depression. I'm grateful for your honesty in these words. It's good to be reminded what goes on in the soul behind the pretend smiles and the extreme effort to just get out of bed and push through another day. Thank you ~ John

I feel more physical pain in my life than emotional, but some days all people can feel sad and that makes this poem easy to relate to. Well done, Brenda.

Hhmmm...? I would rather a little bit more of that renowned Brenda Chiri grit for me please. You truly are a poetess of polar extremes...you know of course which of your moods I most prefer. Lots of warm thoughts for you this chilly night. :) john

Heartbreaking write, Brenda:-( As someone who's suffered from clinical depression, I know what you're going through. Stay strong, my friend! There's light at the end of this dark tunnel. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Your poem is hard hitting Brenda it must be so difficult for people who suffer in such a way. I've never suffered with depression but trust me I've pasted on a smile at many a time in my life, I think most folk would do the same:-)hugs Jan xx
