Questions

If form follows function,
why does everything have too many bells and whistles?
Especially cell phone.

If everything is so simple a rocket scientist could do it,
why aren’t we all Werner von Braun’s?
Checkbooks are a mystery.

If the early bird gets the worm,
why are there birds out getting worms in the evening?
I get up early but I don’t eat worms.

If you are letting the cat out of the bag,
why are you telling the secret?
Why was the cat in the bag in the first place?

If curiosity killed the cat,
why aren’t more cats deceased?
I don’t like cats so_______.

If it is raining cats and dogs,
why don’t we have sturdier umbrellas?
Must get kind of messy when they hit the ground.

If we paint the town red to have a good time,
why are all towns pretty drab looking?
I only like red cars not buildings.

If someone is coming out of left field,
why don’t we just ignore them in the first place?
I played center field in little league.

If we can’t have our cake and eat it too,
why even bother having cake at all?
I just made an orange pound cake, so_______

god is
what I don't know
high Gothic arches pierce the sky
to commemorate a body
washed ashore on the bank of the Rhine
that inspired a wave of pogroms in 1287
a body, that became a saint
a body, that became a pilgrimage
a body, that became an apology in 1996
for
       "...the curse that we wrongly
       put on the name of the Jew...
       because we didn't know what
       we were doing."  *

so, you can know god
but not know what you are doing
for fifteen hundred years

“The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you.” — Werner Heisenberg

heisenberg did not
express uncertainty when
he posited God

at first gulp, science banished thought
of childhood gods of should and ought
but progress through the draught is fraught
as glass bottom comes into view
you expected mere residue
instead, ’tis where God waits for you

“Not only is the Universe stranger than we think, it is stranger than we can think.”
- Werner Heisenberg

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here, within this lucid dream, we call life
Stuporous is light of our awareness
We wish to be joy rife but thrive on strife
History shows no shift in consciousness
Both evil and good co-exist on earth
Our head and heart too, feel separateness
Beginning with ourself, to reclaim mirth
We keep thought flow slow, entering silence
Our heart expands, beyond feeble form’s girth
Distilled calm reveals essence of presence
Being but our soul, in heart all aglow
We reclaim thus our self’s luminescence
Our free will chooses to meld with love’s flow
Love employs no force, so it’s up to us
There remain no seeds of desire to sow
Poised in the void, earth life does not nonplus
We stand erect, aligned with love and light
Going where God takes us, without a fuss
Time’s now to awaken spherical sight
As bliss cascades within, through day and night
5th grade
I remember the air raid drills
sitting tight against the wall
arms folded behind our cow licked heads
waiting for the all clear call
as the red bear menace waddled up and down the hall
5th grade
even more than the air raid drills
I remember Mr.Werner
with that soft -gentle voice -musky cologne
calling his boys to his desk
to slowly fondle away our innocence...
and what of that paper mâché cave
in the back of the classroom
I somehow avoided that hole of darkness
I hear others weren't as fortunate.
At the end of each day
after he was done with us playthings...
he would read aloud a chapter of
"a wrinkle in time"
in that soft-gentle voice-
Arthur! you're 86 years old now, time to come clean.
I hear the cave children are finally coming out
to birth the truth from those gravid days...
They say you've turned off your phone
won't answer the door, transferred ownership of your home...
Trapped in a paper mâché cave of your own making..ha ha!
I think I'll join the cave children in the fray
to help smooth out the wrinkles in our minds.
Nine Eleven
An afternoon of dark flowers.
Werner told me,
                     there were bad men in flight.
Then we sat in a broken circle,
                     as if the air was forbidden
                     with stopped time,
                     the room choked with dust.
Premium MemberBio In Short
It's been a good run
To the back side of sixty,
The short side of time.
First Hollywood kiss
Behind a pink crepe myrtle.
Thanks, Patsy Werner.
High school was okay.
Didn't help me to focus;
So, my mind wandered.
Surfed Bonzai Pipeline,
Big waves break into lava.
What made me do it?
Vietnam jungles.
I wondered why I was there.
America lost.
Smoking pot. Stereo.
Good fun in the seventies.
Psychedelics too.
And three wives later,
I finally found true love.
We're still together.
My destitute heart,
Saved by the sweetest angel.
I love you, Sandy.
Sooners are my team.
Most winning football program
In the Modern Era.
I am retired now.
But I have plenty to do.
Golf, primarily.
I've been writing more.
Perhaps I will write a book.
I have many tales.
I'd chase young girls; but,
Girls with a "grampa" fetish
Are so hard to find.
If I am lucky,
I will just drop dead one day.
With my peace of mind.
Yes, made a good run
To the back side of sixty,
The short side of time.
Grandma's Calling
A subtle truth, I want to convey...
I long, to see you, before it's too late.
Come share a laugh, exchange a smile...
Will you sit next to me, and stay for awhile?
Spend time with me, I am feeling alone...
Give me reassurance as I face the unknown.
My heart is fading; I am giving it my all...
I long to talk with you, will you please call?
I know life is busy; I don't want to interrupt...
I will not be a burden, I won't ask that much.
My sight wanes, as I try to see through...
That life is still worth living, because of you.
My spirit is willing, but, my flesh grows weak...
I will always love you, is the promise I shall keep.
This chapter in life will soon come to a close.
I do not know when, I just wanted you to know.
Before that time arrives, I want to see you again...
To share a laugh, a smile, a hug before my time ends.
