campfire flames flare bright
licking high into the night
fingers seek mirrors
to show the utmost delight
the fire wants to share tonight
your eyes catch that glow—
reflecting in afterglow
like rose under chin
shows a warm red glow on skin
a token of love aflame
out beyond what's near
I see blazing stars mirrored
back through time and space
quivering constellations
pulsing with light's energy
flames carve your outline
the darkness has etched you there
to keep for itself
as it unhooks your shadow
so that you float out of reach
somewhere passed the stars
the first light still floods outwards
unchained, unafraid—
I see it in your eyes now
as the place it will return
the light in your eyes
showcases that I share you
with the cosmic light
released from the wood by flames
kindled by our devotion
your eyes hold fire's glow
a warmth only lovers know
is light from first dawn
drifting across starlit skies
as embers gleam in your eyes
embers gleam in your eyes
embers gleam in your eyes

I could use common vocabulary,
but to be honest I never liked it;
The dictionary or the library,
a scavenger hunt I’ll gladly commit;
Buried within a myriad of books,
or a placement on some forgotten list;
Oh, the poetry that a word unhooks!
Without that piece it’s so easily missed;
Recalibrating an old phrase with flare,
rearranged letters liven up the line;
Describing the vision that pen laid bare,
synonyms and a timeless theme combine;
I could say it the way the others do
but it would come off as only half-true.

Reading in bed, she has a drink, and the ripple widens.
A drop falls in the kitchen sink, and the ripple widens.
Supported, a little girl in the pool floats in his arms,
blowing bubbles as her fears shrink, and the ripple widens.
Adults survive the rain, clutching dark umbrellas, as tiny
shoes trounce puddles in pink, and the ripple widens.
His son begs him to release the bleeding gills to the pond.
He unhooks the chain stringer link, and the ripple widens.
Her mother taught her how to skim a flat stone on water,
as soft nets of light interlink, and the ripple widens.
A whale bursts through the glass, her stature massive. She hangs, then/
smashes the ceiling of the sea as she sinks, and the ripple widens./
While readers roam the world looking for a poem to read,
the author dips his pen in the ink, and the ripple widens.

She caught me line and hook like a fish.
And even though the wait had been painful I thought in the back of my mind this is it.
The bait was just the appetizer.
My heart pumps harder and harder as the line gets reeled back in.
When I finally reach her hands and she unhooks me from the hook she gives me one good glance than flings me back into the ocean with a fierce thrust of the hand.
A huge splash is all you could hear, at least the sound might mask my pain.
Even though I was free to go I was still prisioned inside.
Because just like with fishing Ive just had a hook in my mouth at least figuratively.
Excepts its my heart that is cut and left for dead bleeding in the water.
I swim away. And I dont think I will ever be the same.
Thats the last thing said and than I sunk under water.
