(Kurdish Persian garden rug)

For The Glory Of…

For the glory of what
Do you do what you do?
Is it for love of self, family, tribe or country
Or is it for the glory of God?

It’s always good to acknowledge
Even a bit of the credit we’ve earned
But without God
What would we even be?

Everything we endure and achieve
Adds to the ledger our humble lives record
And yet what is there to spend this treasure on
When our lives are done?

Do you spend it now, with time
Of the essence and tomorrow never known,
Or give it in service and sacrifice to some
Unacknowledged quantity, debt or opportunity?

Seems that moderation and prudence
Is the better part of valor
When faced by a world burning
With so many fundamental unknowns.

Here as we find ourselves
In the thick of things, in delight or despair,
Who is it we come to praise or blame
Even as we alone bear the weight?

Weight and light balanced on the tip
Of a wave, breaking always breaking,
Open this life to the glory of what is only
Always ineffable beyond word or name.

Premium MemberRainbow body monk

the socially awkward erudite recluse
who suddenly disappeared one day
remained unacknowledged till death
lacking tact scratched no one’s back
thus remained in self-imposed exile
yet invisible spirits gathered around
perhaps drawn to an ethereal scent
of a vivifying effervescence emitted
no witness has come forward to speak
of his touch transforming auric fields
so the secrets relayed remain unknown
save to those who too walk in the void
where his formless presence is detected
by following the pulse of bliss magnetism

The pain of the unseen effort

"The pain Of The Unseen Effort"
The weight of the world,
Upon weary shoulders,
Crushing the spirit,
As effort and energy,
Seem to vanish like vapor,
Into the silent void,
With no recognition,
In sight.

In the shadows of toil and sweat,
Lies a bitter pain,
That steals the soul's song,
And smothers the light,
Of hope and ambition,
Leaving only a shell,
Of a dream, once vibrant.

The agony of unseen effort,
Ripples through the soul,
In waves of despair,
A silent scream,
In a world that doesn't care,
The tears of frustration,
Flows like a river,
Drowning the heart,
In a sea of sorrow.

In the depths of the night,
As the world sleeps soundly,
The pain of unacknowledged toil,
Sings a forlorn song,
Of unrequited love,
For a world that fails to see,
The beauty of the unseen,
The strength of the unnoticed,
And the resilience of those,
Who labor in obscurity.

As the dawn breaks,
A new day rises,
With it, a glimmer of hope,
That perhaps this day,
In the midst of darkness,
A light begins to shine,
A flicker of recognition,
Glimpsed in the eyes of others,
A small victory,
That ignites the soul.

One Love

With the passage of time
One love follows after another
- the nouns of our existence
people, places and things
we place our hopes on -
Changing like the seasons
In cycles of growth and decay.

But one love remains constant
Timeless simply by its presence out of time
Ever changeless and unconditioned
Even if unacknowledged
Neglected or denied
A root love
That knows no bounds.

With the seasons we cycle
Around and around
Growing and decaying,
Recalling and forgetting
What it is that holds us
In its orbit
In its love.

Premium MemberQuest

A quest involving traveling
from the West Coast to the Midwest
to express a debt of gratitude to
individuals for their long ago
graciousness toward me. In a world
of selfishness and greed, selfless
Goodness must never go unacknowledged.

A quest to renew acquaintances
with long-ago friends and reminisce
about the childhood years we shared.
I met one of my childhood playmates.
My soul was swallowed up in an emotional
deluge as I cried and held him tight.

A quest to see places and communities
I once roamed and called my home.
The end game of this quest unveiled
emotions difficult to describe. I was
a stranger 50 years removed. So much
of what I once touched and handled
was no longer there. I wept inside.

A quest to share the presence of the
pastor who officiated our wedding. My
long-awaited desire to see once again
a hero of mine was accomplished some
2 years before his demise.

This quest that was initiated more than 15
years ago, is alive and well. Some of this
quest I'm on has been accomplished,
creating deep joy and tears of satisfaction
that are hard to describe. I am very blessed.

Premium MemberSleeping Well

Boldly I exhume exclusion, a badge of sacrifice
Milestones shunned, money’s usual manoeuvre
Cultural flimsy stronghold, servant’s fiscal price
Top tier requires slaves toil all day for approval

Nonetheless, pleasingly, I hail our lucky country
Offers safety, anonymity, hovel unacknowledged
No need to solidify alliances, desperately hungry
Primed pilferers for immediate advantage pillage

Supplementing streetscapes bolster unsold soles
Trove tumbledryer drums cook my new costume
Accesses babyboomer tower, to fire escape stole
Secure deep sleep from moonless cement room

                   Adverse to version of
               us who refuse to assimilate

Unacknowledged Labor

She wakes up early, before the sun,
Her job as a housewife has just begun.
Cleaning and cooking, laundry and more,
She works all day, till her body is sore.

The father works hard, to bring in the pay,
He sacrifices his needs, day after day.
To provide for his family, is his main goal,
He puts his own wishes on hold.

Their payment is small, but it means so much,
Their children growing up, and staying in touch.
Taking care of them, as they once did,
But now it seems, they've all just hid.

Their parents get old, and their health declines,
Their children too busy, with their own lives to find.
The housewife and father, once so strong,
Now feel forgotten, like they don't belong.

But their love for their children, will never end,
Hoping one day, they will make amends.
For all the hard work, and sacrifices made,
A little love and care, is all they need to trade.

Companions of the Night

A life partner advances and sashay
orients a midnight blue chamber room.
Recast as sparkles, prompts unsealed cachet
dawns blessing past twilight upon the groom.

Marital rapture, quietude splendor,
and tantalizing tides affect its mood.
Affections high, stimulate surrender,
low-keyed attractions, reliant subdued.

A bluish globe and whitish counterpart
skirt the heavens and their nearby harems.
Though *two unloved passersby, they depart
like unacknowledged heroic sirens.

Duality, from beginning to end,
luminescence shreds darkness constants friend.

No-Name Byway

Lone, untravelled. Dusty, moaned through.
Before all such, I think
In a dry, but land's forgot roads
Oblivion's wish goads

What leaves, for its departure
Day's, unacknowledged in
Of those shadows, the saddest
Which lead to one's last rest.

Visceral

"Visceral"

Beyond
the invisible

a farscape
much closer
than great distance
unacknowledged

silence calls
what waits
within
to listen

something
powerful
visceral
beckons

you are not
the narrative
programmed
into you

nor responsible
for perceptions
painted over
the unread in you

silence calls
what waits
within
to listen

something
powerful
visceral
beckons

beyond
the invisible
it watches
and it listens

standing
firm in its
own light
and truth

the unacknowledged,
acknowledging
the unread
in you

beyond
the invisible

The Merciful Will Receive Mercy

You who live without a thought
Of the damage that you do

The rift you dug so deep
Its spanning I can't see through

You lie as a child in slumber
While I rotate on this spit

Trying to reconcile my heart and mind
to make some sense of it

I want to stay as I need to go
For the sake of my sanity

Wasted years unacknowledged
Your eyes blinded to seeing me

A merciful pretence of love
Could you muster in my behalf

Saying it's over when it never started
let's end this on a laugh

I was willing to settle for crumbs
Crumbs were all you had to give

Bits and pieces falling through
Your self protective sieve

I'm tired and just can't do this
It's a puzzle I will not complete

Just remember scared as hell my
Own heart I threw like a child at your feet

As vulnerable as a newborn
I trusted I see now in vain

Your love will not be forthcoming
The old Trojan horse trick again

Please do what I am unable
Show mercy if you can

Paint me that picture of the knight on white horse
As when this travesty began

Rescue me from myself
Send me in peace from your door

I promise I will darken it
With my own shadow self never more

Animal Soul

They are our creatures, our natures.
our animal roots.
Such souls are innocent,
incorruptible, sinless.

Why would we ask
if the animals and plants have souls
when we yet leave unacknowledged
our own roots?

If you do not believe in soul,
look at the palms of your hands
its rough face is written there,
its true face is elsewhere.

There are too many leaves in the forest,
the ground hides what is under it.
We grow blind when we consider that the soul
is in anything. We are within it.

The lion, the lamb, the dragon,
the lilies of the fields, the pet upon our laps,

these are the roots of heaven.

Translation of Platen's Sonnet Number 58b

AC Benus translation of "Indeß ich hier im Grünen mich erfreue"
by August von Platen

While I delight myself here in the green wood,
I call unto the barely sentient things:
Come you birds, O come you butterflies, take wings
And fear not, but believe in my faith most good.

Think not that I lay bait for you, or ever could
Set the treacherous snares that doom alone brings,
For I spend my time far from where man's hate springs,
Dreading them even more than you where I've stood.

O count me not with those brute hordes and their lies,
For I've never sought to harm or have one wilt
And been shunned by them for what most men despise.

So therefore, let us flee the paths they have built:
Man seeks your ravagement and utter demise,
While on me, they've heaped their unacknowledged guilt.
