    Where there is no trust
there is no point in ‘talks’

    Terms one side proposes
      the other will reject ...

    But 'keep the momentum going’
      'Schedule another round of talks'

Fancy tuxedos drone on and yawn
boy soldiers fall ~ families up in arms

luctatio

luctatio they branded the term
to define there interest
it was clear to all involved
Could stand proud and applaud.
Tuxedos and gowns, tonight.
We started out looking
for silver and gold.
We had designed a buckle for
the belt.
We carved it by hand.
It was rather beautiful
I put " Worlds Champion"
across the top.
The eagle was centered below the
Championship claim.
I thought it was rather beautiful
The day of the unveiling, I had asked
Saddlemen to go to the store
and get some nice wine
nothing real fancy or weird.
We needed it to start the celebration.
It's a tradition to start the celebration off with the pour of
the wine.
We poured it into a bassoon.
We don't drink it we trow it out.
I gave him enough for two bottles.
One to start the celebration and the other to end the evening.
It's fun you know I really think people
are gonna have a great time tonight!

The Dress

Glittery shimmer,floral patterns,
laces around ,bows on back ,
and pattern ties in front.
Cocktail to ball gowns,sexy silhouettes,
bossy pants,flirty skirts.
Beautiful white wedding gowns to go with
handsome suits and tuxedos,
to glam your bod and to feed insta.
From satin ,silk ,cotton to faux leather
in colours aplenty and sizes of all.
Trends so cool and fashion so fast,
with little hands they sew the dress,
as you click add to cart.
Little hands pack and feet runaplenty
to pack with a smiley happy sticker.
Fast as the fashion, slow you realise
its not couture but evil pure.
After a wear and a wash,
you feel the blends of
polysester,hitting your conscience
seeing the ‘Help me’ stitched
behind the label.
Seeing those invisible tiny labourers,
looking at the perpetrator and victim
of the bigger corporate cosmic,
seeking freedom to live their childhood,
lending their little palms to help
from you to me and me to you,
to a free world of ours.

Dancing Penguins

On the ice where the cold winds blow,
A group of penguins put on a show.
With flippers that flap,
And feet that tap,
They danced in the moonlight's glow.

In tuxedos black and white,
They waltzed all through the night.
With a slide and a glide,
And a spin to the side,
Their moves were quite the sight.

They boogied to the beat of the drum,
Twirling on icebergs just for fun.
With a hop, skip, and jump,
They would thump, thump, thump,
Until the morning sun.

So if you ever feel blue,
Just think of the penguin crew.
With a dance and a prance,
In their icy dance stance,
They'll bring joy to you too!

Premium MemberOf Writing on Black and White

I could do black and let it be
tuxedos, black holes or the Black Sea.

I could do white for purity or
rice, eggs, golf balls, or heaven’s door.

Opposing principles clearly defined
express that black and white are not blended.
For people who think things are black and white only,
fences with neighbors might not get mended.

For my black and white, I will combine
those colors and get a sweet gray feline.

A neutral gray is what becomes
of mixing well both black and white.
If people did this, perhaps we could say
nobody’s all wrong or completely in the right.

Centos

melodies to sing too
an eagerness in song
a harmony in suggestion
you can all sing along
somebody told me
something I wanted to say
I couldn't remember
my thoughts seemed
to stray
what ah whisper
a sweet sweet sound
makes me want to sway
turned a smile from a frown

from the night
to the day
lady you
take my breath away
everyday and every night
makes me feel so good inside

tell ya
 one thing is true
I'd be nothing without you
take my time
just to say
glad I married you that day

( they turned rats into horses
and turned the pumpkin into a carriage)
the burlap bags were turned into tuxedos one for the
coachmen and one for Centos. She was rich
and he was poor but the fairy Godfather
made why with such frivolous things.
They ate devinly. The Trolls under the bridge
were turned into a beautiful couple
who's role were to feed Centos the dat and the horses.)

"Oh the night has me going
city lights painted woman
in the day nothing matters
it's the night time that flatters

Premium MemberAlways Dreaming

So many dreams
Both day and night
Awake or asleep
It's you in my sight

What do I dream about?
So many things
All bases are covered
The pendulum swings

From ones I can't speak of
To ones that I can
But all of these dreams
I would dream of again

If I had my druthers
These dreams would come true
It'd be amazing
To live them with you

There's lakes and there's rivers
There's oceans and seas
Red coats and blue blazers
Pink dresses, black jeans

Lilacs and perfume
Airplanes and guitars
Big snowstorms, warm blankets
Long drives, Nashville bars

Going to places
Where nobody goes
Coming back sometime
When? Nobody knows

I'll court you and woo you
All while we're away
Serenades in tuxedos
My love on display

And under the moonlight
I'd ask of you this,
"Would it be ok
If I gave you a kiss?"

Fireworks, rockets
Inside of me
If that were to happen
If that were to be

My creativity's vivid
Plans, other things
I'd put all together
To make Bluebird sing

It's all 'cause I love her
I say it alot
But if it's getting too much
Just tell me, I'll stop

Lonely Eyes

Gorgeous gowns
painted faces
scripted perfection
with no traces
of a blemish
Smart tuxedos
suits and ties
are reflected in
your lonely eyes
Polite applause
Pandering platitudes
Narcissistic attitudes
Meaningless monuments
to fantasy and lies
I see the truth
in your lonely eyes
As life slips away
line by line
you ponder the price
consider the cost
of what you’ve gained
mourn what you’ve lost
The one thing
your heart craves
that world denies
is written in
your lonely eyes

Big Brave Steps

The sounds of the orchestra filled the room
Ballgowns and tuxedos graced the dance floor, and in one corner, an elite group of gentlemen mingled over scotch

In the early days, he treated her like royalty
Posh dinner parties and fancy galas
Always the steady beauty on his arm
He had no intention of loving her
She was just for show

But soon, all of the pieces began to fit
Late nights at the office
Endless executive meetings
His 'misplaced' his phone
He had been playing her all along

Yes. It was time
Time for big brave steps and a big-girl move
It was now or never
With one final glance at the men in the corner of the ballroom, silently, she slipped out

Rhapsody On a Theme By Gershwin

The train to Boston goes clonkity dong, clonkity ding,
and ever the handy hack Gershwin takes up
the rhythm and makes it sing.
Rhapsodic rhapsodies in jazz mode
stomp among the carriage silverware and glasses,
makes them tink, jitter and chatter
to the shoe shined suits
that doze along to the whitling of whistled tunes.
The moon necks in, illumines a fountain pen
as he, jotting, heels pumping up and down
knees’ a ‘cracking, sketches his syncopated sounds.
It’s coming together except for the molasse’s,
the liquorish stick, added later
with a whisky-wet wail,
then the whole city skyline spoke it up, ears flapped,
as the schtick stuck.
A small combo took to tuxedos, added more chairs
for symphonic fiddlers.
Chronic indigestion is relieved nationwide.
Middle-aged men wear their fedoras more rakishly,
ladies take to the streets in sheer nylon.
Del-eez and dives jive
to the pulse and swing of a scrawny Jewish guy
hammering black notes together
as if he were born in catfish row.

Premium MemberCrazy Witch With Six Ugly Cats

Over the hill past the wizened hollow tree with wild bats
Lives a renowned crazed witch with six notoriously ugly cats
She eats lean meats. Her felines eat their left-over fats.
On Halloween eve they dine on sixty-seven chosen sewer rats.
Sautéing them in fabulous thick gravy, steamed in bubbling vats.
You want to know more? Come let’s have one of my cozy chats.
I know all about the witch and her gloriously gloomy ugly cats.
I hear they all dress in tuxedos, and wear shiny polished spats.
They are crabby and cranky, and shove skeletons down on mats.
I am not afraid to tell you, for I have heard the rumors at the flats.

Masquerade

I once attended a gathering…
The splendour I beheld
Beautiful gowns with sequins and brilliant colours and lace
Men dressed to the nines
in tuxedos with their hair slicked back.
Elvis entered the room with his all his glory
Super-heroes of every kind were poised,
ready to save the day,
and rid us of the evil that prevailed.
A clown sat in one corner
 a certain sadness peeked through
behind the smile that painted his face.
As I looked at all the masks…
I knew I had to leave
I had to run from this place
For you see, I did not know
This was a masquerade
I felt naked and revealed
Why had no-one told me?

*Revised from a high-school writing assignment
many years ago

I wrote this in a creative writing class in high school but lost the original copy.
It has been tweaked slightly but the concept of not being who you are and hiding behind a mask was very real to me even at the age of 17. I still feel the same at almost 60. Entered in the Throwback Challenge Poetry Contest by Natasha L Scragg

Premium MemberProm Night In My Time - Dwm

Post-hippie and pre-disco kids were we,
not clearly fitting one sole category.
Girls dressed formal for our biggest dance.
No short-shorts or those fab bell-bottom pants.
Exploring options at each fashion store,
we girls picked gowns whose length was to the floor.
Guys dressed up formal too; perhaps they’d rent
tuxedos that they wore to the event.

Some local band would play; their lead would sing
an upbeat tune for us like “Wild Thing.”
We danced free form, for we were not about
a single style of dance; we just rocked out!
No Bandstand moves for us; we did just fine.
No Salsa, Swing or dancing in a line.
I think the guys preferred the music slow.
Then into their slow dancing mode they’d go.

Around our dates we draped our arms. Our feet
seemed barely moving from one spot; a treat!
A treat indeed – though soft the songs might be,
hearts raced as partners danced romantically.
To “Have You Seen Her,” “If,” and “Maggie May”
we let our bodies sensuously sway.
The threat of Viet Nam was nearly gone.
To “Riders in the Storm” we blissfully danced on.
