Lonely Eyes

Gorgeous gowns
painted faces
scripted perfection
with no traces
of a blemish
Smart tuxedos
suits and ties
are reflected in
your lonely eyes
Polite applause
Pandering platitudes
Narcissistic attitudes
Meaningless monuments
to fantasy and lies
I see the truth
in your lonely eyes
As life slips away
line by line
you ponder the price
consider the cost
of what you’ve gained
mourn what you’ve lost
The one thing
your heart craves
that world denies
is written in
your lonely eyes
