Love Conquers All – by L Milton Hankins
"If asked to repeat a time-honored passage
I would say it is that “Love Conquers All,”
For, whatever the situation, it is the message
If asked to repeat a time-honored passage,
I'd pass this adage in my far-advanced age:
“Love Conquers All,” sends a clarion call,
If asked to repeat a time-honored passage
I would say it is that “Love Conquers All!”"
'Love Conquers All' embodies in lyrical intonation
the ethos of L Milton Hankins,
exquisitely crafted in the difficult Triolet form,
a form in which he excelled.
The essence of the theme he championed
used to get reflected in his interactions with
and in his comments on the poems
of the fellow poets at PoetrySoup,
encouraging them with suggestions
to become poets of worth,
thus conquering the hearts of so many PS poets
by his caring and appreciative attitude.
For me, this poem embodies the message
he has been so keen to transmit
as the 'time-honored' 'clarion call'.
The spirit of the poem aptly reveals
the sentiments of many like me,
traversing the twilight zone of 'far-advanced age'.

Triolet Form of Poetry
Stepping Stones
Let failures be the stepping stones
To the gate of success in life;
Let not others our path disown,
Rather treat our life as our own
Let us seal it as a rightful bond
As along the stiff stairs we strive;
Let failures be the stepping
To the gate of success in life;

With a shimmering jeweled toned palette.
Painting royal heads of state and reigning Kings and Queens.
Paulette painted portraits and landscape scenes;
Dappled brush strokes, blending rolling hills of green.
Commissioned once to paint a well-respected valet.

With a shimmering jeweled toned palette.

DISQUIETING MEMENTO
Lone leaf upon the earth is red,
amidst the mountain’s grief of dust.
A civil war sent boys to bed.
Lone leaf upon the earth is red.
“War is hell,” the old have said.
Why does it steal the youth, robust?
Amidst the mountain’s grief of dust,
Lone leaf upon the earth is red.

Triolet Form
Draw near to me; you need not hide.
Where night is blind, I glimpse your light.
.
I’ll be the warmth you’ve been denied.
Draw near to me; you need not hide.
Unmasked, you rant. You’re petrified
I’ll leave you here to dark of night.
Draw near to me; you need not hide.
Where night is blind, I glimpse your light
Romanticism in Triolet form for the Contest of the Silent One.
Inspired Line from "Phantom of the Opera" is line two from this part of the song
And in this labyrinth
“where night is blind”
the Phantom of the Opera is there/here,
inside my/your mind
As she sits 'pon a Persian rug
Her pet lovingly by her side
This situation she can't shrug
As she sits 'pon a Persian rug
Frilly blue dress could've made her smug
But virtue shows in her blue eyes wide
As she sits 'pon a Persian rug
Her pet lovingly by her side
