Tempura Poems

Premium MemberChances of Me Leaving Home

chances of me leaving home
chances of me donning blues
chances of me wearing a flight suit
chances of me being chosen
     to carry the sports flag
chances of me staying

what chance do I have to find love
chances of living a life apart
     from what I had known

chances of being whistled at by ships
chances of the greatest adventure of my life
chances of boogie boarding the Pacific
chances of kittens
yes, kittens…mom wasn’t a fan

chances of tempura and teriyaki
chances of children in muumuus and leis
chances of sunshine and rainy season days
chances motor pedaling a bit far away
what we won’t do when we are pinch-cheek young

chances of wading, submerging, merging
with (parrot- butterfly- trigger- trumpet- ) fish; and tangs
chances of Hanauma reef and frozen peas
chances of being half a world away

chances of my son finding love in Guam
chances of my daughters marrying Southerners
chances of happiness
chances of me leaving home

Table Number Four

Tonight's our night
We've been waiting weeks
Our favourite Bistro
For Potato soup with leeks

They gave us 'our' table
The one by the door
Where we first sat
Table number 4

I remember what you ate
Thai Curry with Fish
I had the Gnocci
Oh what a dish

It'll always be our table
Near the dance floor
Where we first fell in love
Table number 4

Tonight as we danced
I loved all our chatter
A short walk to our table
To enjoy Tempura Prawns batter

Where was your starter?
And why was there Greek salad?
It's all going wrong
It's the little things that matter

I called over to the owner
The big bearded one
I was gonna let him know
He had spoiled all our fun

With a furious glance
I looked at the wine
And quickly realised
We were at table number 9

And a paintings on the wall so alluring
Taking a photograph from out of my heart
Hand over hand meeting knots

Picture perfect murals
Dormant drawings
Charcoal tempura paint drawings
Graffiti pictures spray painted building walls
Designing demonstrations distance complications
Foreign warrant pictures
Drawings and paintings unimaginable
Passive pass pastel colored drawings dawning

A Husband Falters

Better take his wife to lunch
after what he said yesterday.
A slip of the tongue.

But where to take her?
The Chinese buffet?
The Indian buffet?

Maybe the Japanese place.
She likes sushi and tempura.
But when he asks about lunch

she says not a chance.
She has to clean the house.
Cleaning lady comes today.

Premium MemberJapanese Sushi Bars

The best ingredients found coming from near and far,
can be found at any great Japanese sushi bar.
Along with the seaweed and sake vinegar rice
are many raw seafood items that show to be nice.
There is shrimp, lobster, octopus, squid, and cuttlefish;
salmon, tuna, mackerel, caviar from lumpfish.
Artisans can prepare it in any way you wish.
It goes well by itself, or with crisp fried tempura.
One need not go to Tokyo or Yokohama.
There are many fine places to be found in the States.
On any night, take the car and zoom down with your mates
to any number of great Japanese restaurants.
They have what it takes to satisfy all of your wants.
There are so many fine items anyone can choose
This can be a great night out! You have nothing to lose!

Melange

mélange

"we've blended energies, even
our atoms dance in syncopated heat."
I say
"you're quite scientific,"
you said
"i've married both sides...
searching for God until i discovered love."
i say

you held me close
and we fell asleep

when the first bird sang of praise,
you wrote a poem,
i asked if you found the words,
you did

before the tempura of daylight,
we fused raw dialects of desire
to searing flesh,
red sails churning with ocean, gravity
and wild sea,

tormented love addicts
poets and paper tigers,
our stripes blending into a primeval darkness.
not alone
no,
never alone.
