A candlelit restaurant, where dine the elite
Securing a reservation, a near-impossible feat
My dream date and I, dressed to the nines
The views majestic, overlooking the Rhine
The décor exquisite, in the finest of taste
The service superb, orders prepared post-haste
But the cuisine so awful, my date gave me a glance
Darling, I confessed ~ I ordered the ambience
Oh I do love the Superb Blue Wren
And thrill to see it now and then
When riding on the bicycle path
It’s fairylike antics make me laugh.
With feathers of electric blue
And little chirps clear and true
He flitters lightly upon the breeze
And puts my troubled mind at ease.
Does he know or even care
About my ever-loving stare
As he gathers his little harem
And I ride off harum-scarum.
But I give thanks that God made thee
As you perch quite close to me
And I hear your birdy laughter
May you live forever after.
Superb, singing mimics without lyrics
Unperturbed and dancing in gymnastics
Albert, buzzing sirens with mnemonics
Swinging with dozens of antics
Her name is simply Thalia!
Does that sound unfamiliar?
A science foundation in an old city
Volunteering to tackle The Gritty,
Here in Nigeria accomplish
What her compatriots wish;
Like fingers not failed by triggers
The firm shovels of firm diggers,
Already reinforcing The Walls of Science
And up bracing Arochukwu’s commonsense;
The little left of her research courage
Long lost and becoming an adage …
Because, personally, I’d seen it all
Set rolling like A League’s Ball:
The many computers in the rooms they belong,
A skeleton I hope shall sing a song,
A Nutrition Lab promising superb cookery
And gas-cookers pledging no trickery;
Thalia’s control room for fishing prowlers out,
Sixteen screens for crooks to think about.
Arochukwu THALIA puts at an advantage
And her lips readies for vintage;
On the whole, a reason to love The White Man
And stop being astonished each time he can.
I need just a touch of blue the young designer said.
In her hair?
No
On her lips?
No.
Contacts?
The designer looked exasperated - on her forehead. Paint it.
We thought this was strange but we did it, to please her.
This magazine cover won all kinds of awards.
A fluke of youth?
No. This was forty years ago, and she is still winning awards
For her fabulous innovative magazine covers.

A Superb Forenoon
This superb forenoon down the avenue,
flower gardens, mostly lawns, up this part.
There's Sammy and Tammy, "How do you do!",
naught Baker's ... close, Cooke's, love their fine art.
In view, ol' Freddie sits at the bus stop,
this superb forenoon down the avenue.
Waits not for bus, just days headlines they'll swap,
park seats, down some, too far ... bus stop will do.
Fair breaths of air, perfect time, grows in view,
from this point, I approach the metal wind,
this superb forenoon down the avenue,
flaps Orient graces in a crosswind.
Chalked squares in my path, sits a small beanbag,
a lil' girl says, "A minute sir, thank you!",
"Welcome, Miss!", homestead nearby, let time lag,
this superb forenoon down the avenue.
