With flames our story has begun,
my eyes are blinded by your smile;
Our love was painted in the Sun;
I have not felt this for a while,
maybe this time I’m not on trial;
Was it fate or the time of day?
Oh, serendipitous sundial!
I’m in awe of the game in play.

What is a sundial in the shade?
"What is a sundial in the shade?"
use your gifts and be not afraid,
let your light so shine before men,
and share to all your waking ken,
all simple minds can see the hill,
yet, few whose beacon shines their skill,
ignorance ain't so much a shame,
to be well-learned you should proclaim,
the skilled will test the watery deep,
knowing fully ne'er use both feet,
slip of the foot you'll recover,
slip of the tongue you'll ne'er get o'er,
no one should be their own teacher,
lest a fool will be their master,
an old adage; with age comes wisdom,
although, age comes alone for some.

SUN DIAL and SAND CLOCK
Sand clock or an hour- glass:
A device of two bulbs with small slit at the junction,
sand dusts to pass
Using sunray
Sundial shows Sun’s direction
at day.
Sun-Sand
clocks to mention
Grand!
Sand clock or an hour- glass.
Sundial shows Sun’s direction.
Grand!

As the sun touches my dial
Warmth becomes me in daylight while
At night I sleep and do not have the time
For the suns smile helps me with time
As this bright light moves around
Shade tells me the time
My dial is tall and does not move
Yet rotates with the earth around and around
When the clouds above cover me I take a nap
Not caring what time it maybe
I have been around since 293 BC
I never get tired of telling you the time
I am your every-ready Time piece

I only tell of sunny hours...
for they are all I know.
To speak of winds, I would be vain
to guess which way they blow.
I will not try to gauge the rain.
How silly would I look!
The tides? the moon? to plant, or not?
Best check the farmer's book.
. . .
The sundial speaks of what she knows
of all else she is quiet.
I could be spared so many woes,
if only I would try it!

I only tell of sunny hours...
For I have found a new direction.
Like the sun shinning on a sundial,
hope follows me whence I travel.
For its not what life owes me, its what
I owe life.
I've learn that happiness is a direction
and not a place which I travel with hope
along a road which I have made. My road is
built with dreams that I carry within
my heart; and nothing in this world
will make me kneel to fear.
Hope follows like a shadow, regardless of
the weather and instead of looking for the bad,
I look for the good. My sundial really does
not need the sun, for I carry a light that
shines on me. I don't have to look for
happiness, for hope is my companion.

I only tell of sunny hours while expemplifying gardens in full bloom
a magnet for songing birds that flute and flit I am none other then
a telling wand with hints of shadow from a sunburst sunny day
Concentric circles I do make by an energy powered bloom
my happiest hours are spent in telling time by mystical divine
I am a digital sculpture with tile like mirrors that reflect beauty
In every corner of the world people are awakening to the morn
attached to the surface I own printed numbers that add to infinity
I know no other message true, but sundial reads of handle care
I move across the sky with subtle moves in peaceful waves
using the light of the sun to tell how hour and moments live
inside the gardeners beating heart and thriving scented thyme
I only tell of sunny hours while feeding up her summer muse
and as the sky turns sweet magenta blue I quietly reserve a spot
for moon to visit up the flowers of my optimistic telling room .

The Happy Sundial
I only tell of sunny hours...
My face is never dark or dour.
I make a point of sunlight’s cast
and smile to see the shadows pass.
I only tell of joyful hours....
Love springtime days with pretty flowers.
I keep my face turned to the sky....
The bright sunlight shines in my eye.
I only know of happy times,
latitude and hour-lines.
My finger points to noonday sun
that warms the hearts of everyone.

I only tell of sunny hours ...
Although dark shadows cast their gloom.
My prototype in ancient times
Stood guard outside a Pharaoh's tomb.
*
From Egypt's Valley of the Kings
To dreaming spires of Oxford town,
My heritage of solar time
From east to west has earned renown.
I only tell of pleasant times
Although dark moments leave their trace,
But I prefer to spread the light
And show the world a sunny face.

*note: A sundial dating to the 13th century B.C. and considered one of the oldest Egyptian sundials, was discovered in Egypt's Valley of the Kings, the burial place of rulers from Egypt's New Kingdom period (around 1550 B.C. to 1070 B.C.).
* various sundials dot the university town of Oxford, the most famous of which can be found in Corpus Christi College.

I only tell of sunny hours...
While quartering each day
In shaded lines or angles
To point the passing way
Thus tireless in my duties
Of minding moments, rife
But only those in sunlight
The brightest times of life
My minutes turn to hours
And hours thus move on
To spin as lives about me
Until day's light has gone
But if you fear the moments
'Til daylight won't be soon
I'll still be minding hours thru
The bright ... of every moon.

I AM A PROUD GREEK SUNDIAL
I only tell of sunny hours historically,
And go back to when I was built,
Fifty years before Christ was born,
Have been renovated and rebuilt!
My name is Tower of the Winds,
I live in Agora, Athens Greece,
I live at the summit, on top,
Tell time and season, quite an eyepiece
Lord Elgin attempted to remove me from
Greece and take me to Britain but failed,
But I the sundial perched high above,
Stand proud as Elgin’s actions were curtailed!

I only tell of sunny hours...
I,Gnomon,
Sundial yeoman;
Suntanned sentinel
Stand watch,
Shedding tears for unrequited love.
My cooling shadow stalks sun;
Caresses with timely sunscreen
Sweet sundial’s gilt Egyptian face.
Ask me time of day;
“Shadow knows,” I’ll say.
Shadow will not rest
‘Til sun does nest.

I only tell of sunny hours...
then rest at night along with flowers.
No one will come in dark of night
to read the time I show in light.
I only tell of sunny hours;
the bright sunrise, my surface scours
to make my sundial shadow best
for time that is the pleasantest.
I only tell of sunny hours;
you see I have the magic powers...
to tell time's measure, work or play,
throughout the brilliance of your day.
