I only tell of sunny hours... While quartering each day In shaded lines or angles To point the passing way Thus tireless in my duties Of minding moments, rife But only those in sunlight The brightest times of life My minutes turn to hours And hours thus move on To spin as lives about me Until day's light has gone But if you fear the moments 'Til daylight won't be soon I'll still be minding hours thru The bright ... of every moon. ~ 2nd Place ~ in the "Sundial Wisdom" Poetry Contest, Julia Ward, Judge & Sponsor.

Love 'the bright... of every moon'. This flows so smoothly, as all of your poems seem to do. You have a true mastery of the English language. Nothing extraneous, everything essential. I am impressed! (Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!)

Very nicely expressed, Greg! I wonder if a full moon could cause the arm of a sundial to cast a shadow. We have different views on punctuation, but the quality of the words is excellent. Best wishes in the contest, Carolyn

(Not from a Journalism COURSE, but rather the required English and writing courses required for a Journalism DEGREE).

(2) I may pursue a degree in journalism one of these days, and perhaps then I'll get some proper instruction, but I'm afraid I've forgotten much in the forty-seven years since prep school English. Thanks for your understanding. ;-) <3

(1) Thank you so much, Carolyn ... ANY light will cause a shadow on a sundial, though it depends on the eye viewing it as to whether or not it can be "seen". A full, bright moon casts a very clear shadow. I apologize if my punctuation isn't proper ... I have been writing for only two years, uninstructed, so I use it (or not) as it feels "correct", to me.
