Specks of fire flies by
Flickering amid shadows,
Glimmering fireflies.
Lone vibrant beacon poises
On steeple leaf in darkness.

My grandma was a steeple jack,
Of heights she had no fear.
The crowds would gather round to watch.
They came from far and near,
To see her swing and pirouette,
Doff her hat and wave.
And gasped and cheered each time she feigned
A slip and then a save.
Roof-toppers winced and bit their lips,
Tight rope walkers screamed.
Treetop loggers looked away
At the daring they were seeing.
Women gasped and children shrieked,
Fearful she would fall,
But at full ascent a massive roar
As she stood upon the ball!
She blew a kiss to the those below
As she turned around with ease,
Then there atop removed her scarf
And cast it to the breeze
But the crowd went wild as before their eyes
They viewed her final feat…
Into a handstand Grandma rose,
Then she waved and kicked her feet!
Whether flag pole, steeple, TV tower…
My grandma climbed them all.
For the freedom felt there in the clouds,
She was at their beck and call.
That grand old gal inspired me
Her legacy I've retraced.
Now I too dance upon a pole
At a club called Mary’s Place.

"Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind"
- Edna St. Vincent Millay
On
my back,
looking up
past the steeple,
I view pure beauty
beyond the vale of tears.
Soon, I will be going down,
but I am not resigned to stay.
This soothing peace is otherworldly
but for cries of all who mourn my demise

One day his sheep went astray,
One day he followed it to the mountain of GOD,
That day he seen a fire in a bush,
It was not consumed nor fell to the sod,
A voice from the bush said, take off your shoes,
For this is Holy Ground where you stand,
I have sent for you, a job must be done that is true,
My people I have heard, I send you commands,
O Praise the LORD for HIS marvelous works,
O Praise the LORD for what HE has done,
O Praise the LORD, from here where we lurk,
O Praise the LORD, From HIS Love HE is One,
The voice from the fire said to free his people,
The voice from the fire said that I have sent you,
He heard GOD's voice not from a steeple,
His heart was not sure what he should do.

Pleasant People
To encourage others we always do prefer;
And with God will agree with and concur;
Meet pleasant people,
Under church steeple;
With God's energy we are sure to endure.
