We give each other license
To justify the violence
We relate to satisfaction
Relegating our inaction
To a higher power
The fashion of the hour
Changing with the time

The constant's our reflection
That the state of our perfection
Disdaining all inspection
In the state of our connection
To the mantle of the Don
But will it ever dawn
That ground shifts all the time

Like the mantle underneath us
Somethings should be beneath us
Croesus wouldn't be the one
That would or could impress Solon
Just as fool and all his money
Are destined to part company
All that matters is the time

So just as a marriage license
Recognizes loves' instransigence
Romancing love as love of power
Is but convenience of the hour
And the short term satisfaction
Will result in but the fraction
As it's turning on a dime

Who Put the Pace in Peyton Place?

Since humans surfaced from the slime,
our art has always turned on time,
on measurement, and not on rhyme –
so Solon says (I’m with him):
the heart of art is rhythm.

You want to waltz? You need three-four.
And verse that’s truly free’s a bore!
The drumkit forms rock music’s core,
and Rhapsody in Blue has
wrought classical anew (jazz).

Our architecture, uninspired,
was looking – feeling – somewhat tired.
Then Frank Lloyd Wright, completely wired,
transformed it, not for profit
– have you seen his soffits?

The painter had become a monkey,
just reproducing portraits (clunky)
and soulless seascapes. Things got funky:
what stirred the stiff Sargasso?
A samba called Picasso!

Those Western movies grew so dull,
the steers were ready for a cull:
Italians dispelled the lull,
while Hollywood said, smugly,
“no-one wants good, bad, ugly!”

So, whether you sculpt or you sing,
you groove to The Beatles or Bing,
you think Nat or Elvis is King,
it don’t mean a thing
if it ain’t got that swing!

Shauryan My Dear Nephew 1

Among all there is a wholesome son.
His name, we feel pride in, Shauryan.
On 20 November was the jewel born.
So precious that all want him as a pawn
But parents not ready to give for scone.
Without looking at him there’s no dawn
Chess playing at different levels is on.
All are sure of his ability family to conn
In a perfect direction without any con.
He is the best known and virtuous icon
Wishing best for his overall solon.

Shauryan My Dear Nephew

My dearest sister has a son.
We call him dearie Shauryan.
Healthy, wealthy and pawn
Of parents, demanded scone
For eating in evening or dawn.
Chess playing at state level on
Till nation or inter forgone.
Never is lazy, never is con,
Is the best known icon
Wishing best for solon.

Justice,
Your laws a spider-like web*
Resemble
That catches the very little and
Frail
While the big and powerful through
They pass
Without ever leaving a single
Trail!
