Premium MemberOn My Own For The First Time

I am adopted and a single child
having a stammer since pre-school
I also loved soccer to play and watch
at 12, I got to go to my first game, real cool!

This was fab to go on my own
for the very first time just me
a real sense of freedom I stood there
on the terrace standing tall as a tree

That was the first of many games
throughout lots of years
many victories among many defeats
the atmosphere and thrill tingle my ears

Looking back now to a special memory
that first day lies special in my heart
feeling that sense of security but free
this was to mould me in no small part

That day prepared me for future life
whatever struggles of life would face
the grounding I made then framed me
to lift myself over every hilltop without a trace

Premium MemberA Penalty Kick Missed

It's a sick joke
free kicks for penalties
with no infringements made.
Such is life, missed!

Making the Team

For 2 long years, I really did try,
But every week I just seemed to be passed by.

But then suddenly on the noticeboard, I saw something quite untoward,
Suddenly my life was full of pride,
I'd finally finally made the side.

The other boys seemed to have a natural gift,
Between them and me there seemed to be such a rift.

But I've made it now and I'm full of cheer.
Hey, maybe I will be Captain next year.

Premium MemberA Legend of Football

A short stout figure in the forward line of attack,
dribbled with the darting ball on the green turf.
With the magnetic pair of fleeting legs like a wizard,
spearheaded the formidable formation of the team.

The opponent defenders had to invent new strategy
to thwart your crafty moves leading to the goalpost,
but you could make your way foiling all their attempts
to see the ball flash and hit the net behind the bars.

You were the backbone of your country’s team of fame,
that you led to winning many prestigious tournaments.
A legend in life time, you were the pride of Argentina,
in the history of football you’ll live forever, Maradona.

Premium MemberHis Defining Goal

In Lisbon he scored the priceless winning goal
A man who was modest to the depths of his soul
With a deft flick he diverted Murdoch's strike to score
This winning goal to ignite the Lisbon Lion roar
He was more than worthy of this celebrated side,
The Lions who will forever be the pride of the Clyde
This Celtic player has become for all time a legend
His earthly life having come to its appointed end
Waiting on him in Paradise at the pearly gates of heaven
Billy et al will welcome Stevie of that famous eleven.
Which uniquely won a remarkable football game
To elevate them all into the soccer hall of fame.

Summer Gods

Nightly battles by Titans
screens lightly flicker
life at a standstill
audiences fall loud to silent upon a drop
brotherhood and sisterhood under banners of wind
hammering drums
lustrous chants
loss is uninvited
we all cling on for the win
visible morning realities of decay and rubish
surrounded by godly stories of glorious figures
inspiration gives birth to future dreamers

I Am England

I am England til I die because England is I.
I am England in my heart, I am England in my eyes,
I am England in my sleep, I am England when I rise,
I am England on the land, in the sea and in the skies.

I will fly high the flag of red and white,
I will do it everyday, I will do it every night,
I will fly it in the peace, I will fly it in the fight.
I will fly it when we're good, I will fly it when we're sh**e.

When England needs, we all fight, we all bleed.
We are together in defeat and together in victory.

I am England with an English heartbeat,
I am England from my head to my feet.
I am England and the feeling is sweet.
We are England and we are complete.

I am England til I die.
I am England with pride.
I am England for life.

I AM ENGLAND,
I AM ENGLAND,
and England is I.

Columbia was a team full of promise, on the rise
Their relationship with El Padrino they could not disguise
Drug money accepted under threat of demise
No choice take the Gold or your family dies
You’d think choosing money and life would be wise
Yet the result is an entire country that cries

Two very different men with the same last name
One shot dead because his team lost a game
The other a drug dealer who loved money and fame
Many thought Pablo was the one we should blame
No matter who for Andreas the result was the same
The end result brought the beautiful game great shame.

Both men were shot dead but will be long remembered
One for the own goal his unfortunate foot tendered
One for the agony his reign of terror once rendered
Columbia’s soccer teams soul has now been mended
For the whole country I hope their showing is splendid

Keepers of the Game

For this we stand
and hearts we wear,
upon our sleeves
we know no dread.

We rest alone
yet share this love,
the beautiful game
with our army,
our blood.

With arms outstretched
body twisted and torn,
we pray for a fingertip
to shield us in this war.

As the shot skips wide
and we clash with our foes,
this battle is won
as we rise up for more.

This life we have chosen,
the soldiers of our game,
the generals of our clan,
the drivers of our faint.

So if you opt to take part
in this combat we so love,
please have no faint of heart
for us keepers we have none.

My Passion,Soccer

Something you can’t fake,
It is a feeling, a lifestyle,
It is life, it’s a passion,
It is a hobby to call,
A profession to follow.

A game, like drama,
It involves speed,
It includes strength,
It brings happiness,
And dedication as well.

In competition with none,
Having the desire to play,
Trading fear for courage,
God’s gift to humanity,
An achievement in life.

There are obstacles,
There are doubters,
There are conflicts,
There will be mistakes,
But with hard work,
There are no limits.

I’m lifeless without soccer,
Having no feeling at all,
It’s my hobby,
It is my profession to be,
It’s my passion.

A Prayer of a Footballer

O Lord! Thou art my Coach
I shall never be defeated
 Strengthen me for this game
As I humble call on your name

Invigorate my heart, mind and body
When I fall, pick me up and energize me
Grant me the tenacity to win every ball
And courage to stand whatever befall

Yea, though my opponents frighten me
Like roaring Lions out of their den
My great Coach always inspires me
Your pep talk! Your word! Uplifts me

Though fear and despair bites me
Like venomous snakes out of the shadow
My Lord is with me everywhere I go
You prepare a strategy to defeat my foe

When the final whistle is blown
And the team heads to the dressing room
May my Lord, the great Coach when He calls my name
Say “Gideon! You played like a Lion, you played the game”

And surely victory, glory and goodness
Will hunt me all the days of my life
And I shall look up to my Coach forever
Walking with me now and ever!
