Spring blooms bring
joy, spreading
their fragrance
Summer heat
Sizzles us
with its rays
Autumn winds
make leaves dance,
chills us out

my dear friends,
i am writing to address
a memory of sorts:
a lovely barbecue,
evening, on the beach.
you all brought
ingredients
to pile on my barbecue.
you all brought your onions
your palette knives
your cutting board
and one of you were
cutting onions.
at the beach.
the juices, they pricked
pricked my sockets for droplets.
oh, it was lovely,
the sizzling crackle of veg.
and i took my chair,
i examined the burns.
the sizzles, the pops, how the knife had painted
the onions
onions!
red onions in the sky .
it scorched my eyes
oh! the taste!
and you were all so thrilled
to share your creation
the meal was fantastic
filling for the night, but for days after
i couldn't rid myself of
onions
without cutting them away from my eyes
so i vaguely remember
in a dream like state,
one of you took your palette knife
and scooped them out for me.
i cried and shook for hours in relief!
and, oh! what a time.
and, oh.
onions.

... is wearing his tall white top hat
Where his brains should be
Wearing his rainbow bow tie
Where his vocal cords should be
He fancies his dragon cane in his hand
No surprise his shirt is Hawaiian Kine
Made of silk with coconuts and palm trees
For design
He wore brown khaki pants with suspenders to hold them up
His socks were knee high green with tassels on top
But his shoes were the best, better than the rest
All shiny and pointy
And ready to dance ...
Dance away Dance away
Dance through the night
Dance, Little Bear
Dance away Dance away
Dance through the day
Never stop dancing
Dance away Dance a way Dance away
Dance all ways always all ways
Dancing without a care
As He chops away, chops away chops away time
He sizzles and grills fantastic meals from his mind
For he fancies himself a cook not a chef
Being chef just seems too sublime

With booms and wheezes
The fireflies it teases
With sizzles and cracks
We remember our anger of tax
With smoke and lights
We remember our rights
Children scream with fear and joy
This is greater than any toy
We hope with all this sound
Nothing will burn to the ground
With the sky ablaze
Even the stars glaze
With red and green
Filled with its mighty sheen
And orange and white
That makes my heart feel tight
And with blue and teal
Which reminds me of my zeal
And with purple and gold
My awe is sold
And all other colors, old and new
I will always see the red, white, and blue

The sun SIZZLES on the scorched dry sand
As he sits before me and brushes my hand
He runs to the ocean to SPLASH in the sea
He SHRIEKS with delight whilst he's looking at me
The ocean it BABBLES a slow lilting song
Its depths of bright turquoise can be heard SIGH along
All at once there is RUMBLING as the sky turns to grey
The pricking of goosebumps on a bright, CHIRPY day
As the ocean retreats in a menacing way
It pulls and it GROANS and it drags him away
Up ahead in the shadows a gull CACKLES its joy
As the loud CRASH of water takes hold of the boy
The boy calls out to the crowd on the shore
The laws of the ocean means the boy is no more

There's a secret in the SHIMMER
A shadow in its glimmer. SUM SUN? We say night? Its daylight.
ETERNALLY REALITY! IS there fright in the DIMMER? LOOK THE SUN SIMMERS when it sizzles
Day to day to day and day DAY DAYS and DAZE! What do you say
Sunshine? Do you mind this time?
The never night? The da da da DULL OF DUSK! the dimming the offender? The SUM SUN accomplisher. And WE SURRENDER NEVER DUSK EVER US! The SOLARRR! LIFE!

I’ll bet on that Summer anthem,
roll those dice and take a chance;
Open my heart and try extreme,
wandering a new venue or back road;
Roll those dice and take a chance;
So spontaneous you’re finally alive
as that sunny song sizzles the air;
Open my heart and try extreme;
Raw emotions are a roller coaster,
let yourself free fall enjoy the flight;
Wandering a new venue or back road
in warm weather with dilated eyes,
with each replay that rush rewinds.

mountains tumble
across the horizon
twisting the last splinters
of warmth
through heavy hanging
gray soup
listless lifeless
endless sigh
dogs roll over
mown grass
clinking ice
gentle laughter
fluttering chimes
cool breeze
sweet pungent earth
enlivens lungs
ocean cracks
spills sheets
steams stainless barbeque
sizzles fire pit
douses tiki torches
lettuce, tomatoes, chips
condiments
march back inside
under the eaves
gulping rare air
until it freezes
behind the window
white pellets pelt
big red umbrella
guarding the feast
burgers melting cheese
buns toasting
in formation
lining the grate
storm sweeps over
collective gasp
tables towel off
wet dogs play
music marries
dinner mirth
dancing flames
lick black velvet
Friday swells
into sleep-in Saturday
while weaver weaves
another day

"I have been a stranger in a strange land." Bible, Exodus 2:22
The compass whirrs.
North toward rock, south toward sand.
East toward ice, and west toward river.
Like a game of spin the bottle I take a chance on north,
run my hands over stone and pebble,
the spine of life a twisting snakeskin, shedding.
The compass whirrs
as words and winds uproot me to the south. Dust ridden,
arid. Earth sizzles, a roast overdone. My flaking skin
drenched in sweated drought.
The compass whirrs
as those years of crinkling sand dune heat melt
somehow into eastern snow. You don’t understand
how or why or when those summers became leaves that
fall, became sleet upon which you slip, recklessly, helplessly, toward time’s
splash. The final plunge pool.
Now, western waters offer a mirror,
sometimes murky, sometimes crystal,
and still, the compass whirrs, as you realise
that strange land - your body.
The stranger - you.

Like a welcome Summer rain, humor may suddenly
cleanse and cool the earth, the air and you.
—Langston Hughes
RAINING IN SUMMER
The little teapot leaned over, steam pours out,
sizzles on the pavement. Trickles, sprinkles,
waters the subsidiary gardens that sprout -
those pointed out by a grandson. My wrinkles
curve up as the rain skillfully waters my willow,
my patch of roses and lilies, scattered and rare.
With Summer storm, I ruminate on a long time ago.
This grand-generation of blessing, not yet a prayer.
Drip…drop…splosh! The hope of the window pane.
We dream, as the outburst streams down to spill
our dreams, like seeds giving more than the mundane.
God saturates our lives with more than we will.
It’s raining Summer all over this land of honey-wheat.
Though droll and gray, a grateful soak gifts a sun rise.
My flower petals, leaves and boughs bathed in heat
and nourishing drink, replenishing the owls, and other wise.
Ker-splash, the puddles of inky-mud, stain the shins,
leave me, us, them, refreshed and sodden with grins.

I still believe in Love
and the magical realm above
the mistletoe and Christmas glow
hot choc mint, white soft snow
But in Australia, it’s summer time
loads of flies, in their prime
sausage sizzles, sweltering days
tanning under, the sun’s rays
I still believe, in dreams coming true
but alone each year, brings sparks of blue
Now once again, Christmas is here
so I force a smile and give a cheer
Others are hurting, more than I
so I wish them well, as they look to the sky
We mustn’t give in, we must not mope
Miracles happen, don’t give up hope.

A cat and a dog, marinated delight,
In a frying pan, they engaged in a fight,
Their sizzles did soar,
Mom kicked the pan, what a roar!
Dinner was ruined that unfortunate night!

‘Tis lucky me father lies in the grave,
Than t’see the havoc I have wreaked
In the name of actin’ bold and brave,
My misadventures dastardly peaked.
In this musky gaol I am wasting away
While me life passes before me eyes
Chaplains teaching me how to pray,
Give up with their lugubrious sighs.
Long since I no longer wish for home
Before the blazin’ fires of the hearth,
Cedar sizzles and marshmallows foam
My children giggle at songs of mirth.
And me here so cold behind these walls
I no longer dream of freedom’s will,
While me sentence spurts and stalls
I swallow punishment’s bitter swill.
