Best Sizzles Poems
Santa Barbara, Summer 2017
Monday
I walked on the bluffs above the sea.
Orange poppies bloom in the dunes.
I discovered
the labyrinth:
smooth stones spell the path.
Peaceful pilgrimage.
Tuesday
Walked on the beach and smelled:
Tar from the oil seeps,
fennel,
coastal sage,
eucalyptus.
And, of course, the sea.
Wednesday
Hiked in the foothills.
The grass is brittle and yellow;
the land sizzles.
Spiky shrubs, spiny scrub oak.
The chaparral is ready
to burst into flames.
Thursday
The eucalyptus trees
on Ellwood Mesa
are dying
from the drought.
Where will the butterfly sleep?
Friday
The sandpipers
hurry to the surf, neck forward,
to peck with long bills.
They scurry inland before the next wave
as if they are afraid
to get their feet wet.
Snowy plovers skitter
like cotton balls on wheels.
Saturday
The infinite ocean
under an infinite sky.
A white S among the reeds,
the egret can teach me
poise and patience.
Sunday
Found a piece of seaglass.
Translucent blue,
The edges smooth
Worn by water,
Sanded down.
Beauty from adversity.
I think I will write a poem about it.

Oh now sad frog located on the sandy beach
Emotions raging around the body as an Icelandic volcano
burning holds in a vice grips deeply
Stranded in the cemetery of broken hearts
It is as if parts of the heart where torn out
shreaded from the body without an anesthesia
Deep arrow strikes in Golden Sunshine beams
Maybe he worry for no reason
Warm thoughts sail faraway yonder
An endless sandy beach, white as snow
washed with the blue ocean in brilliant yellow sunlight
Singing dreams kissing lips hold an oasis close
She drinks his kiss as if one could never get enough
In the hot summer sun burning heart yearns
It does not matter what it is
or where it leads them
as long as it creates an inner glow
Singing sizzles relighting loves croaking flames
Infatuation may be coming - but volatile
ignites when paper lips hold tears prisoner
Positively resonated does not appear out of the blue
Falling salt seasoned spice
Trail seeking light
This is a powerful and invigorating moment
Jumping angry to paradise
Shedding the green shirt of a Queen
She was cold, but the sun stroked her
soft and warm over the cheeks

On the pan she cracks on the edges
Flows in her white gold love rashes;
Wet to oil, bottoms turn up in fumes
Sigh, sizzles to burns in her top cues.
Hot as roasted, spiced in cheekiness,
Crusts within the silky ceramic lust:
Fingers feel cling to the push shove
Tongue melts into lick, flip; lip sucks.
Molds fold with in the hardness cuts.
Aroma breaks the churning of beats,
Touches to heap and urge the squeals
Lifts and drops akin to the greasy eel.
Life is passion in word promises
Beauty in metaphors is my trust.

Endings or beginnings, there's reason for change
circling around me, are seasons, rearranged
As we say farewell to our place in the sun
Goodbye to our cove on the beach and the fun,
but hello to the chores, and sweeping leaves by the door
With the first icy fingers , hoar frost on the windows,
we'll attack and will stack all the chairs in the garage.
We'll put back barbecues, while the rake, and the hoe,
are in charge of our life, till that last leaf is gone
Take a cue, shortening days, and the color of dawn
Dew on the lawn, wet days, and light snow,
tell us that nature, abundant with harvest,.. grows
and is bringing a new brilliant show.
Blossoms are fading, and gold leaves are falling
The acorns are dropping and bouncing like rain
A north wind is brewing with clouds on the horizon
promising raindrops. Jack Frost on the sill!
Now is time when the year curves around,
for, summer is fading, soon, and winter will fall
Daylight is shrinking, with more time for thinking
of pencils, and school-books and buses in yellow
Horizons are purple, with brilliance that sizzles
blazing the hillside, while aspens are shivering.
The whole world is spread with a bright golden band
shouting with color, while painting our land.
Sun ripened trees, are stirred in the breeze
The scent of ripe apples alive in the trees
Popcorn and football, and nights at the movies
Endings, beginnings, let's give them a whirl...
Time for reflection, all's right with the world !

Does not the pen yield its ink unto the bare page,
For expressionism to spill forward expelling inspirations
Liberal curve, it’s the power of freedom of speech is
It not.
How many have died for what they believe in,
What weight in blood soils, have these brave
Individuals has cost in life’s causes of the justice
And righteous.
These voices sounding can be heard even though
The flesh flame has been extinguished, hope light
Flickers in the darkest corner of silence, and it’s mighty
Winds wave can still be felt amongst the living.
Know one stands alone in a justified cause, if the truth
In the written words is spoken out loud, and is proudly
Bared by the author.
The next generations seeks our kindling fire, to inspire
There small embers to burn more brightly let us encourage
Such raw fuel to ignite, not smother it by smug self righteousness.
Set ablaze the pages of the future generations, let their inspirational
Spark spread, setting the very heavens a fire with enlightenment's torrent.
In this world we are given the gift of speech, thought, and wisdom,
For what other reason but to share the best of ourselves with others,
It is the gleaming light that sizzles in the eyes of the human spirit,
And severs us from the beast of the fields, and it is called Intelligence,
Compassion, and the freedom of speech.

Under a spray of cold water
Sizzles upon impact on my passionate body
Droplets of desire trickling down
You are the water phantom
Flame and water ignites a spark
Building intense harmony through silent chaos
Desire burning inside
Sensations brewing in hot lava
Your love letters licking my mind
Every alphabet is a glinting beacon in my unlit chamber
You are the conductor of my orchestra making melodies
Together we make beautiful rhythms in giving and taking

Hovering my sun scorched wings, I soar high
traversing thousands of mountain realms
In my own golden cage , an inferno blazing
my soul sizzles in orange-red yellow flames.
Flying in exalted passion, a trajectory of hope
yet when the night sky darkens, in tearful eyes
I am reduced to a smoldering pile of ashes.
A sleeping beauty in her stillness of Death
black abyss beyond sunset, a spark rekindles
O Sun, with you , I will awake tomorrow again.

Each season breathes a fleeting sigh,
Spring bestows gifts of renewal
Leaving blooms before its goodbye
Summer sizzles with warmth and zest
We lose ourselves in its blue skies
Finding relaxation and rest
Autumn then sets the trees ablaze
And brings a chilling wind our way
In winter, snowflakes catch our gaze

"The Wormwood Portfolio"
Reams of stories
riddled with worms
wood for burning
all the children
cover their eyes
tears smoked
into the lungs
gender fluid
propheticising
bitter water
electric brains
chipped like
fine-boned China
downloading
overloads
dumps are
damp
the fuse
sizzles and
stops
green as absinthe
gauche ghosts
gone all grey skinned
scales of merit
charred unweighted
vacant and vacating
like dandelions
scattering over
the barren wombs
of the childless landscape
dreaming of biblical babies
suckling the wanton breasts
of Desdemona’s structural points,
a sharp essay, feeding insouciance
mistaken identities and confusion
side-blinded by the light
of the tempestuous kill shot
burnt and scarred
beeseeching open handed
faces turning like time dials
towards two suns
gold gone all black holed
dead verdant plants
hot feet blistering
make no more demands
skipping, games of patter-cake
powdered ochre yellow
here's the church and here's the steeple
open your hands where are the people
like viruses, germinating
no more prayers to enchant
daughters of eve
sons of man
when the Word finally speaks
there is hearing damage
Reams of stories
riddled with worms
wood for burning
all the children
cover their eyes
;
the ides of march
recant.
(LadyLabyrinth / 2021)
"A tear in the brain
allows the voices in
they wanna push you off the path
with their low-frequency wires..."

I see neon orange
as it pops, rattles and jars
inside my mind, all the time.
It titillates, sizzles and struts
a solid, knock out punch.
Orange obsession, like a
manic brain on overdrive
squeezes it's juicy core
into every fiber of my
being, it reigns supreme.
I close my eyes and envision
an orange chorus of poppies
punctuating a country hillside.
They sing an enchanting song
while I dream of bright
orange tomorrows.

Tiny spiders spill forth from a crack
in the plaster wall. Crawling, spelling
out the answers I’ve sought.
Filthy wall vibrates with words.
Words, that drip and ooze down
onto the asbestos tile. Breaking
up, each letter sizzles into a small
cloud which rises into flickering fluorescence.
Words that are the answers
I’ve sought all along.
Answers to the questions
that I never asked.
If only I could remove myself
from this concave mattress,
capture the smoke.
See what I saw.
Thaw.
10 tons of icy sins
crushing my limbs.
Preventing all movement.
Save a blink here and there.
Clearing the blur of dried eyes.
Bringing into focus her approach.
Injecting dull relief into my veins.
Fighting sleep to learn
more. I can’t ...

Summer Skies
Summer sizzles shading seashore skies
Singing season songs – solstice surprise --
Sweet salmon sunsets spin splendorous shades
Strawberry sunrise spawns stratus shifting serenades.
Sapphire sky’s secret soliloquys stuns
Shimmering sun sonnets swirling shadows shuns
Soaring solitude surely steals stress shells
So sunbeams spread summer’s signature spell.
Since stormy silver silhouettes suffuse squalls
Stolen solar spall splinters shower shards so small
Summer’s spirit soars, stratosphere specters scamper
Stellar scraps surround sheer space starlit sampler

Stress sizzles at the bottom of my brain
Twisting cyclones lashing tongue-tied migraines
Bubbles trapped by broken, acidic air
Garden of corrosive roses' despair
Dark swords piercing aura's fragility
Turning sunlight into adversity
Until angels of amnesty bypass
Sinuous paths; breaking a wall of glass
Into a puzzle, relinquished by the steam
Of a sage maze, lost within a downy dream.

Mine eyes drift back, incensed in forgotten crevices
intoxicated by wondrous wafts of camphor
I blink three times and bow
The wetness dripping off my brow
sizzles reminding me of the trinity
as aches pause momentarily on bended knee
Flickers of hope dance and in wicked light
I focus on her blue attempting
to be one again with you
Beads of rays coloured tap gently
upon pain stained cheeks
and one by one I release her orbs
into a teardrop sky
