Sunset
Old gray heron
wades knee deep
along ponds edge.
Feeding.
Fiery reflections dance
across still waters.
Bass leaps through
sunset....

Shallow Stream
mountain breeze
whisper's sweet
in the mesquite trees

skies of blue
cloudless, too
once a perfect day

memories fade
as love wades
across a shallow stream...

Dawn hurls
Sleep curls

Warm light
Floods sight

Dreams fade
Buzz wades

Slow shift
Loose drift

Thoughts curl
New world

“The diva is high,” says the news, “huge splash in the pool and a bruise.” She scores off the scale. She’s thin as a whale. Crowd wades in her blubbering blues. 2/12/2022

Terminal Reef
Like water…
fear seeks its own level
Rich or poor
it wades through our consciousness
Driving us inward
toward sirens of darkness
Shrilling the moment
—with lyres of doubt

The Title Hides In the Tides
Over the shattered, surf scattered shells
her feet are cut, bleeding as she reaches
for one still whole to enfold.
Inside an entity pulls back, alive
she knows, thinking to toss it,
instead wades into the surf
gently sending it home....

Reap
I wait until the sunlight fades,
Not fearing coming dark,
Through the shadows despair wades,
No sound do I hear hark;
Houses near draw down their shades
No dogs will even bark,
I see him walk with steely blades
Like a soul-snatching shark....

This Woman
This woman loves a married man
So she sings the jazzy blues,
Hoping to be carried into
Distant space where she
Never heard of heartache.

This woman sips her wine
As she wades in the rivers,
Searching for poor autumn leaves
To ask if she too can drown
And become dust to earth....

Metaphysical Adultress
She wades in anoxic swamps
She feels with her heart
Her mind never still
Her soul torn apart

She craves understanding
She craves conversation
Her thirst for the dark things
Precedes her reputation

She is never sated
She is never stilled
The void in her heart
Crying out to be filled...

My Black Is Beautiful
My Black Is Beautiful
For it comes in All shades
Blowing up the spot like a
handful of grenades
Having Us to put off a show
like a peacock parades
To keep Our public guessing
as if to play charades
While hidden remains the part
that suffers and wades
Although the Courage, We have
to LOVE, never fades...

Premium Member Star of Wonder
Star of wonder, star of power
Bluest of steel blue
It shines at the midnight hour.
More wondrous than Regulus
Its eight points burst forth
Beautiful and careless.
Calling moths to flight
The bowsprit lantern burns
Inspiring them to a new height.
It wades through the black sea.
Turn your face this way –
Shine on me, shine on me....

Premium Member For Company At Dinner
Quiet flows at dawn the turbid river
Thu’ the trenched terrace of thicket
The morning mist of mystique aura
Rises from sunshine splashed water.

In wobbling water wades weary angler
The fishing line flung for the rare catch
Hopes a trick will emerge out of his hat
Hook a fish soon for company at dinner.

Priss As a Peacock
Priss As A Peacock

Priss as a peacock
proud as I am,
I prance ore the garden
waving my fan.

Proud Senorita
crown all in tact,
waddles and wades
train trailing back.

Glorious gait
eyes all a glow,
regal and royal
she puts on a show.

Till one small flaw
Her neck stretched up high,
She screeches an opera
Like one who has died....

Borrowed Valor
with pebbles, shells and sand all awash
in time's rejuvenating ebb and flow,

he wades along strange shorelines dimly seen
           that slowly shadow-dance with tomorrow;

he plods on, believing his belief lies
in his borrowed valor against the dark,

across wounded and scarred cactus lands,
to retrieve a lost fire's dying spark !...

Premium Member Hum Breath Yawn
Fields of spun gold silk somber auburn shades
Resonant a hum breath yawn against blades.
Wiff of cool air espy hush cries cascades
Dry in silence nature's quaint everglades.

Weft of rain lingers round as slow rhythm fades.
Mystique wakeful light of dawn serenades
While the warm sun rises, the bullfrog wades,
Small blue heron stand watch like waiting maids.

Sapphires
Night silenced moon ascends as lonely dim art
while burnished tears bow from a silent gray tomb.
Songs of dreams belong among the red skylarks
as she clutches the lost arch of sorrow’s boon.

Time wades along wild rivers of salt-green dust,
within auburn hair lies are fragrance of musk,
the staid broken glass with dark sonnets of time.
She’s gone now alone with sapphires of rhyme....

Man o' mine, bravest o’ sailors,
singing sea shanties with death,
he wades through icy glaciers,
o’ the frostiest breath.

Cling to vein and steady this vessel,
doldrum this destine my love,
Jonah, thy mustn't wrestle,
with the goddess above.

If waves won't wallow in waiting,
tears will not stop the storm,
cruel sea, ever berating,
'til I'm a widow in mourn.

Premium Member Final Analysis
(Hidden pitfall; judging a Poetry Contest)

I like to approach
the final pass
at morning sunrise,
after a long restful renewal.

This was not that morning;
awake at 2:00 AM
baking cookies by 7:30.

On the fourth cup of java
crispy peanut butter crunch
wades across my tongue,
floating downward
in a warm, brown stream

to settle in fat cells
on waist and hips
as the spoken words
cross my lips....

Premium Member Hot Summer Day
Sun poures its hot rain. It wades drinking away the race body heat, beneath their feet as they walk the baking street. Neighborhood kids play upon the streets splashing in the muddy water. No one silent, their mingling voices, squeal with joy and laughter in the gushing waves of a fire hydrant drenching their limbs, a treat to its coolness. 8/23/2017

Praise profound peer

Rowdy rhymes race
Spoils spread sure space

Prune poignant past

Wonder words well
Dreamy dance dwells

Wise wander wades
Touch timeless trade

Meet moments meek
Sad story streaks

Feel fuzzy frame
Niche nimble name

Being blooms bright
Treat taut tale tight

Round ripples reach
End echoes each
