Wordsmith

Lyrics written in the sand
Equations on the back of my hand
Science on steamed windows
Dirty love letters on white vans
Sparklers spell your name out

A Helmand Soldier

Here I am
In Afghanistan
To protect the people from the Taliban
But
The Imam
Laughs at me
Says
Stupid man
This
Is your Vietnam
You’ve been here now
Near 10 Ramadans
And
Still you cower
In your armoured vans

Road Construction

Two lanes are forced to merge to one
So traffic's slowly crawling;
On sunny summer weekends
Such delays are quite appalling.

For miles and miles we creep along -
The cars, the vans, the trucks;
I think we'd all agree
That road construction really sucks!

Choke Point

CHOKE POINT

Our roads are at choke point
as traffic descends into gridlock chaos.
Cars, lorries, buses and vans
all bumper to bumper in a traffic
jam ten miles long. This is a vision
of the technological world
in which we live where both man
and machine grind to a halt.

The Press

Listen to poem:
When it’s in motion its
deafening clatter will
mesmerise you if you
stand still and listen; but
when it is silent
the great room seems to sigh.

And in the yard the vans prepare
to course through a city’s anatomy,
deliver to every capillary
nutritional gossip and rumours of wars.

Grass

The green grass stood there, insignificant.
Seasons change, rains come and storms and snows.
We people jump and stamp and step and spew
On the thin and small pointy green blades.
We people run our cars and vans and trucks
Over the tiny little green insignificant lives.
Seasons change, rains and snows turn to sun.
The tiny little green blades remain standing.

Thursday Memory

Shop bells tinkling from eight 'til late
queuing customers having to wait;
Thursday,closing at noon
opportunity to court and spoon.

Collection boxes built into walls,
gossiping ladies in their shawls;
Bells pealing on the hour,
drays pulled by one horse power.

Factory hooters' blowing
Morning cockrels' crowing;
Cycle bells a-ringing,
Provisions from vans' a-bringing.

Feel

Are you sitting on the field of dreams.
The cattle’s running so vans are pulling.
Feel my eye the vision is inside of me.
Come on people stand firm it’s time again.
Fingers holding grace of land.
Pecking order finished so wait for your turn.
Wooden round thing washed again too many times.
Four little sticks what are they for, they going to blow away.
Close those eyes for god’s sake.

The Mayor

The mayor’s been indicted
And they’re searching through his things
To uncover proof that he deserves
The boot this often brings.

I live near Gracie Mansion;
The surrounding streets are lined
With police cars and the vans of press,
Arrest on every mind.

I don’t know if he’s guilty,
Though his circle’s shrinking fast,
But I’m pretty sure our time as neighbors
Isn’t gonna last.

The Time Between

Golden grace,
Mirror and shoeshine,
Down at dawn,
Casting shadows,
Like hands tick-tocking,
Tick–tocking,
Tick-tick-tocking,
Bells,
Like bombs wait,
Wait waiting,
Wait wait waiting,
In corners of vans,
And corners of corners,
And corners,
And corners of shadows,
Tick-tick-tick-tocking,
Up at dusk,
Melting skies,
Honey gazed,
Honey glazed,
Honey grazed,
Cloud shatters,
Moon crash,
Broken midnight.

Vacation Loner

Collecting maps
of obscure roads,
the unpredictable nomad
in a plain, gray car
changes horizon as
unknown paths extend the day,
passing by vans into priceless scenery,
ignoring the passing of time.
Thoughts of the shore or
thoughts of the mountains
while escaping the city
bring daydreams of freedom from
meetings and schedules.
Dinner in a diner,
sleep in a guest house,
no glamour, just comfort
and simplicity of life.

Caravans Carrying Dogs

"Barking Dogs not bite",

But,a reason to bark they cite,

Caravan moving ignoring the Dogs chase,

Not asking the cause the case,

Dogs in dream-

Seeing the caravan as a CAR A VAN,

Barking,Dogs like mad,

Asking a ride like child to dad,

Men know but Camels ignore,

Cars in motion ,Vans in motion in every location today,

Dogs in ride chasing the caravans to a world of dreams,

Why to bark, why to bark Dogs today in Cars and Vans by our side!

Stolen

Dogs are not safe,
Many stolen,
Broken hearted owners,
Prey they come back,
Most stolen for puppy farming,
Some stolen for dog fighting,
Many types of vehicle used,
White transit vans the most,
Check for markings on your property,
You then know yours is chosen,
Hight fencing extra locks needed,
In the garden stay with them,
Take care when taking walkies,
Be vidulent stay public,
If a vehicle stops those inside watching your pets,
Keep on walking and call the police

My Antics

There I was an eight year old girl
On an adventurous whirl
We had a thing for hanging
I ended up dangling
With a driver that wanted to hurl

these things happen when dramas befall
I got stuck between the van and the wall
out cold I was lying
driver almost crying
vans were forbidden, for fear of a sprawl

*Naughty me, ended up unconscious
from hanging onto the back of our neighbors’ van,
poor man needed shock treatment, luckily
I lived to tell the tale lol *
