Wool Tanka

gathering wool
for winter’s spinning---
dyes bleeding
the remembered skeins
of my yesteryears

Ask the Sheep

We know knitters knit wool from skeins,
and when wet, us the wearer complains,
for our pullovers shrink,
and so this made me think,
why don't sheep ever shrink when it rains?

Amnesia

Tangled skeins of memories unravel
Implacable reverie in melted rainbows
Encroached upon asphalt canvas, absorbing
New moon's amnesia; her silver shadows confiscate

Geese

I gaze in awe at skeins of geese in flight,

Framed within the majestic moon at night!

From whence they came I ponder

And whither they go I wonder!

Ocular Floaters

Vacant but for
minute shadows,
I’d mistaken
for clouds

our sky has lied
again; it is
only blue;
chastely blue.

No longer do you
wait secretly
behind celestial
skeins of dust.

You are only in my eyes.

Oak Trees Are Crying In Kansas

It is one of those windy Kansas days
Felled oak trees roll along the country roads
Their roots are scraped and torn like hopscotch knees
They are as gnarled now as skeins of worn-out yarn
Do you hear them crying as they are being uprooted and blown?
I do.

Candyfloss

a spangled stand stood at a summer fair
the sugar shack sells at nine dollars a treat
pastel skeins of silk spun lighter than air
melt-in-mouth-goodness, so delectable and sweet

each tender bite is a firework of ecstasy
but this transient delight sure costs a pretty penny!

Ancient Tongue

White carpets
of scant flowers
giggle into my ear
as they arc and sway
into eachother
all as memories of you
dance in my eyes
against the reflection of
free-spirited clouds.
Alas, an impish breeze
whispers into skeins
of coiling branches
as the tree replies
by rattling her leaves
in ancient tongue,
that only I can fathom
in silent enchantment.

Ran's Nets

Rans nets, which bind and trap.
Ensnare and incapacitate all who swim in the oceans of life
I tangle thy golden skeins.
Your pearlescent webs that move in the voids between the 9 dimensions.
Your webs of final fate that float and dance between the worlds.
Ensnaring everybody in the 9 planes and all existences
may your golden Webs ensnare the wrongs
done to me and right them.

Patience

Pieces of hours, fragmented minutes
As raindrops slide down windows
Tangled skeins of memories unravel
Infusing reverie in melted rainbows
Encroached upon asphalt canvas, absorbing
New moon's amnesia; her silver shadows confiscate
Charcoal regret to grayed sepia, as diamond stars
Elicit PATIENCE to receive the morning.

Skeins of Geese

I think that I shall never see,

A more magnificent scene to me,

Than skeins of geese in pure flight!

'Tis truly an awe-inspiring sight!

'Tis a wonder of God's Creation,

That they fly in perfect V formation!

As they glide thro' autumn's lowering skies,

I harken to hear their haunting cries!

I stand in awe as they pass in review,

Blessing my soul as all too soon they fade from view.

Have You Completed Anything Yet

She had talked her uncle into being her money patron at last.
He encouraged her to purchase skeins of yarn; it was a blast!
She kept telling him that she was making something for him.
She would have one idea, then go off on another whim.

Have you finished anything? He asked her after sixteen years.
That she was only wasting his yarn money was one of his fears.
So, she came out wearing a hat with skeins of yarn on her head.
Speechless was her former patron, her annoyed Uncle Ted.
