October sapling
Colored leaves clutch the branches
Emerald backdrop
Sets the scene for tomorrow
Frost covered, lonely, gray limbs

he was raised by trees
a fur king in Germany's black forest
few met him, as he seldom transmogrified
posing as a harmless sapling by day
howling rage by night

Memories
Renewed by scene
A heart carved in sapling
Mighty red oak thirty foot high
Heirloom

Autumn rakes garden,
flushed flowers wither and fall.
They return in spring
to sapling of yearning heart,
life blooms with luster of love.

From a little sapling to a tree,
He grows, he grows to be,
Stuck to its roots still,
Can’t go anywhere, can’t be free,
Stuck in the soil,
His own not allowing him to go,
He just sits there, where he sadly grows

beneath the oak tree
a sapling withers and dies
shielded from the sun
sheltered from the wicked world
she swings from a makeshift noose

winter rakes garden
frozen leaves wither and fall
they return in spring
to sapling of yearning heart
life blooms with luster of love
lush lilac lilies
paint Monet on flushed meadow…
dew breathes scent of spring

We grow like a tree.
We fall like a branch.
We blossom like a tree.
We grow roots. We need to be nurtured, cared for and loved.
Like a young sapling finding it’s way. Growing bigger and bigger year after year.
We change like the seasons.
Like a tree.....

A tender sapling -- delicate, frail
without support will often fail
Tied to a stake, it has a chance
to grow up straight, to firm its stance...
Oftentimes we judge a tree
by its leaves and stature
When roots trunk and branches
~ reveal its character

A meandering brook winds past
Branches sway in a gentle breeze
Praising the lord God unsurpassed
Like a supplicant on their knees
In homage to azure skies
Heavenward the sapling reaches
Awaiting its God to baptise
While the black Cockatoo preaches

The winters come much faster now
than once they did in endless days;
The sapling now a roughened bough
which in the wind no longer sways.
Springs interjection disappears
as quickly as the summer sun;
And fall? It counts the passing years
reveals the end has now begun.

confounded again
Croesus latitarsus
birch sawfly larvae
Found these Birch sawfly larvae (8th June 2018), on a self-seeded Silver birch sapling growing on the upper bank of my pond. Not sure but I think the bright colours could mean they are unpalatable?

Childhood! I can hear cries of the wild-free
and the loud yell of the long lost, and for
souls, young as the new sapling, a strong tree
is always growing before mine and yours.
Still murmurs the cold ground
and the grass parting; oh
hear budding the fresh sound
and the ground broken so.

the joy of you pop
once big as a redwood tall
fragile you blessed me
your eyes gave me hope
hundreds of years you grow small
a dark evil world
I stand taller now
a young sapling rooted deep
lessons you taught me

Did a gardener envision this heart and make it so?
When the tree was a sapling, did he or she tie it into place?
It matters not, the effect is a smile on people’s faces.
They come from miles away to get their wedding photos here.
Was this also envisioned by the gardener? We will never know.

Sapling apple stems,
once pushed into warm earth,
root with excitement...
their graceful naked branches
reach high into autumn's sky
Willowy offshoots
are pointing upwards
to drink in the sun...
a legacy of knowing
what nature has intended

The world revolves,
Around the sun.
On and on,
Same days, same years...
But once in a while,
An asteroid hits,
An eclipse darkens,
But it is still there.
It bleeds larva, screams in terror and pain.
Shadowed for years...
But still there
Like a little sapling looking for light,
Trying to come back alive.

stopped along the road
to synthesize a poem
a feathery mimosa
honeysuckle vine
entwined my mind with its scent
the sweetened sapling of youth
the flutter of faeries
and butterflies on wild rose
I’m swinging on memories
held tight, wild hair asunder

I am an Oak
A mighty force
A sturdy fortress
Against the wind
Against mother Nature
I am a Sapling
Freshly planted
Renewing nature
Breathing life
Into the air
Alive
I am a Seed
The Prospect
For new beginnings
Fit to make
A brand new thing
Anew
I am a Twig
Cut off
And useless
Once alive
Now dead
Alone

Clutching a sapling
no port in the storm
Torn from its moorings
No hope to keep warm
A waif of a girl
wrapped in shawl and waistcoat
She’d not survive long
her voice stuck in her throat…
When the blizzard abated
she was found frozen stiff
buried alive ‘neath a snowmound
Mother Nature not a finger did lift

A Tree Falls
A tree falls.
No one calls 911,
offers aid
or comfort.
Homeless birds
hold placards
“will work for seed”.
A sapling sprouts.
Crickets camp
beneath it.
Stony shadows
keep time
in passing
sunshine.

are out of toilet paper I say!
I’m gonna do my business outside
beneath an apple sapling. That I may
return a little phosphorus and nitrogen
to the soil I have been so content to
rob. And Years from now I’ll know
that some bastard generation grows
yet, sprung not from my
loins, but thereabouts
at least

Shape
Rendered seed concealed in Love's nest
Tendered sapling fondling mother's breast
Adolescent twig fluttering with pubescent zest
Immature leaves on mating quest
Maturing frond passing coupling test
Cherished branches sprout; hearth's bough dressed
In due time, seasoned fruit; perpetuity's crest
Stale, desiccate limbs; vitality's inquest
