A Cowboy Thanksgiving Toast

May you gather kin ‘round campfires
And give thanks to God on high—
May you feast and relish friendships
Before that round-up in the sky.

Round up all them sweet wallflowers
don't let them sit alone for hours! :(

You're having fun-- I've got a hunch ;-P
They're sick of watching, drinking punch

An enterprising young boy from Memphis
Made it his goal to climb Mount Olympus
Short-legged in stock
He fancied a smock
And he couldn't round up a consensus.

I now declare war on your regime
Round up your Chicago schoolboys
Who believed in free markets
At the hand of the gun
I'll bring billions
Of people whose
Values died
For your
Game

Sleep Disorder?

No need to count sheep
I drift off to sleep
Then snooze in my hay...
Just can't STAY that way!!

Oh... NURSE! (named Bo-Peep)
PLEASE round up your sheep...
Come in where I lay
And DRUG me...Okay??

Alone as I walk in the sunlight
No one around but me and my shadow
So I walk on even so the heated bright
Reminds me that the sunlight brighter
As I the lone cowboy round up the cattle

A little old lady named Rosie,
Loved to plant things like veggies and posies.
Her garden a sight, the whole yard a delight,
And butterflies played ring round the Rosie.

Now rabbits got into her garden,
And ate everything to yard's end.
Out the back door she flew to round up the crew,
And proceeded to make rabbit stew.

Short
Haiku hiatus
Powerful and wonderful
A waffle-free zone

And
Three lines together
So observations recorded
Synergistic sum

Sharp
A needle sows scene
A razor shaves the landscape
Rapier round-up

The Excuse

for those
who need
an excuse
to come together
with their families,
to round up all their
friends,
to give gifts, to exchange
pleasantries, to
party for a few days,
to enjoy themselves
despite all else,
we
have
the
“holidays.”

why some need a third party,
a made up reason,
a dictated delusion,
in order to feel that they can
rightfully take the time
to slow down & smell the roses
with their loved ones,
this writer will never know.

Its Like a Roller Coaster Ride

Thoughts and feelings…
Like a roller coaster ride...
Round and round, up and down…
Then suddenly stops!
A breakdown…

Trying hard to restart…
Need to re fix the heart…
… of it all, it cant again stall,
Adrenaline rush , the feeling good,
Need it back,
Want it back…

Eventually it works again,
Back to normal,
Wanting it to stay,
Ups and downs,
Keeping Going each day,

Thoughts and feelings …
Like a roller coaster ride…

Galactic cowboys mount mysterious steeds and chase spacey cows at unfathomable speeds! Lactating in circles they moo as they spray an interstellar round-up, a real milky way. It sparkles and glimmers, that distant lactation as it drenches the galaxy and all of creation. At heaven we marvel, in some ungodly hour, at distant milk curdles, already gone sour.

Wanna get on that horse
round up all that herd
lot of work still to be done
what do I do to get you stirred

Come on now let's get going
if you want to get fed
show you deserve a feast
before you get to bed

you young ones like it easy
in my day it was all graft
sweating it out all the day
then you really earned your craft

Sorry if I've been too hard
but experience says crack the whip
in the long term you'll be thankful
a real cowboy makes the trip

Just Ducky

JUST DUCKY
BY: JONATHAN W. HOPKINS

HAVE YOU SEEN THAT DUCK DYNASTY SHOW?
IT'S QUITE THE HOOT,DON'T YOU KNOW!

THAT OLD MAN LEADING THE CLAN,PUTS THEM DUCKS IN A ROW, AS FAST AS HE CAN! ROUND UP THE CLAN OLD MAN, OKAY? LET'S GO TO ZAXBY'S TODAY!

THOSE GUYS WITH THOSE BEARDS MAKING QUITE A FUSS,
IN THEIR CAMOFLAGE CLOTHES,TRYING TO ENTERTAIN US.

HARD TO BELIEVE THEY GET PAID TO DO THIS,
I GUESS THEY'RE LUCKY, IT'S A TRUE BONA-FIDE HIT,
AND ISN'T THAT JUST DUCKY!

His Last 8 Seconds

The only child
but favorite
of two ‘outlaws’
mare and stud

He bucked each
gelded moment
on their wild ride
of love

Until that day
he up and left
their branding iron
of pain

To wander high
and lonesome
mongst the free
and tumbling sage

In search of one
last bronc to mount
that one last
horn to make

And spur the wreckage
of his youth
as Angels
— pull the Gate
