Ripe Old Age
We will all live
to a ripe old age.

If not here,
then probably
over there.

If not over there,

then defiantly
someplace else.

The mind is
everywhere
at once.

Experiences vary.

When I die in one place
the others simply
move on.

We will all live
to a ripe old age....

Grandma You Are Gone
Grandma you are gone
As you died in your sleep
At the ripe old age of ninety-six
You were always so healthy
Except at the end
You helped my mom raise me
To me you were like a mom
You were never lazy
And worked so hard as a nurse
For those suffering from throat cancer
In Houston
Yes, you were a beautiful grandma
You will be dearly missed...

I am learning about a new me!
I am working to REINVENT David D.
It's a work-in-progress so you know
It's almost as if I'm putting on a new show!
But I'm a rookie learning about life again
I haven't felt this way since I can't remember when
Are my years a factor since I've reached a "ripe old age"?
Where it's very difficult to turn a new page!...

Premium Member She Drank Tea
Aunt Judith was the only tea drinker in the family;
Camomile brewed from bags - no loose tea leaves for her to read -
her future was foretold at birth: heart defect and early death.

The wise doctors were sure she would not live much beyond thirty,
but with faith and determination she surprised us all -
Joyfully, she left this world at the ripe old age of fifty!...

Retirement Plan
Retirement Plan

Dr. James E. Martin
©February, 2013

Now that I’ve reached a ripe old age,
I sit on the porch and sip sweet tea.
Some may question the wisdom in this,
My response is simply, “It works for me!”

Jealousy is undoubtedly fostered in some,
For that matter anger may surely arise.
I simply continue in my well designed plan
And know that many my life they despise....

Last Goodbye
We sit silently in the crematorium

You are in a box, a large spray of white lilies placed on top

I hold my breath for to say goodbye is too much

How will I cope with such a loss?

I reason with my self, you lived to a ripe old age

Inside I cannot control the sadness tears roll out of my eyes

I watch as the box begins to slide

Getting up placing my hand on the box I say goodbye...

Premium Member Birthday Party
My family was celebrating my birthday number sixty-five.
Grandson Zachary, who as I recall, was about the age of five,

Asked me after I'd finished blowing out the candles galore,
"Grandpa, how old are you today?" His retort has become family lore!

When I replied, "Zach, today I'm the ripe old age of sixty-five!"
He became very serious and said, "Well, at least you're still alive!"

Entry for Nayda Ivette Negron's "Birthday Party" Contest (27 Jan 2016)...
