Jump Rope
there’s a curve
at the end of every sidewalk
did you know every block’s
measured by the lazy way a rope
skips and ponytails itself down its own street?
my, how my rope bends
alongside that straight line
six inches above what you call a ‘curb’ under my knees
falling and rising under my feet...

World Cup
19 Girls chasing a ball:
Dirty shins, sweaty bodies, bouncing ponytails.
Grass stains galore,
I stand: panting, watching.
Never fast enough for this hunt.
For my father, I must stay.
For my father, I bloody my porcelin knees.
A spotted rocket flies my direction.
Think fast!
Kick! Goal!
Maybe there is hope for me....

Dam Change
“Dam Change”
Dam change.
Mother and father love their plain ponytails and Lionel trains.
Then infancy crawls to scrap knees, tea parties. And headphone blast fast tones accompanied, by the arrogances of “me”.
Old Lionel trains sleep and ponytails worn plain train to feed or seek maternity.
Then mother and father love their plain ponytails and Lionel trains.
How I hate change....

Nostalgia draped the counters and walls
The smell of bacon sizzled in the air.
Diners in baseball caps and ponytails
noisily chattered there.

The grill popped
to the teakettle’s screams
To harmonize with the babies cries
sitting on their Daddies knees.

Time drizzled by on the Chevy Belair clock
like the syrup on my Johnny cakes
while the waitress kept a pouring coffee
to the bikers, their cravings to abate....

Premium Member A Little Girl
Unicorns and fairytales
Pretty bows and ponytails
Pink and lace
Charm and grace
All in a little girl.
Dreams of love
And maybe someday
Wake to find
That special one day
Roses red and candy kisses
All wrapped up in pretty ribbons
All for a little girl.
Moonlit walks along the beach
And stars so high
They can’t be reached
Rainbow dreams
And sunset scenes
Smiles and laughter
Forever after
All in a little girl....

Waving ponytails
of silk
wrapped in skirts
browning green
red and yellow
sapphire teeth
play a game
at hide and peek.
Sparkling twinkles
from the sea
flew in millions
like the wind
at the fullness
of moon wink
fading with
the cricket sound
last stalks fall to the
ground
echoing farmers
harvest song
mountain splendor
at braking dawn.

Ponytail
I haven't had a ponytail
Since I was very young
And even then, most likely,
Into braids my hair was hung.

When frizz set in, I chopped my locks
And thus the die was cast,
So ponytails and pigtails were
A remnant of the past.

But when I see a jogger
With her ponytail a'bounce,
Its jaunty whipping of the air
Seems like it does announce:

Just check me out! I'm oh, so cool
And confident and fit.
So feast your jealous eyes -
I'm the epitome of IT!...

Premium Member Celebrate Today
The tiny gremlin was dancing in the dandelions.
Her arms were high above her waist, she was singing.
“Celebrate! Celebrate! Celebrate today!”
My face was softening with a smile as I spied her.
She is Penny, my neighbor, and she is adorable.
Her two blonde ponytails were bouncing as she was twirling.
She spun so hard, she fell down twice; laughed both times.
What are you celebrating? I asked her upon my approach.
“I am celebrating you!” she told me.
No better answer if you ask me....
