Homespun / Maine 2004

Nostalgia draped the counters and walls
The smell of bacon sizzled in the air.
Diners in baseball caps and ponytails
noisily chattered there.

The grill popped
to the teakettle’s screams
To harmonize with the babies cries
sitting on their Daddies knees.

Time drizzled by on the Chevy Belair clock
like the syrup on my Johnny cakes
while the waitress kept a pouring coffee
to the bikers, their cravings to abate.

I love small town diners and local pubs, they offer an atmosphere that can never be replaced nor that personal quality. This takes me there to one diner I happened upon I think in Georgia, one hot summer morning. A terrific clear and wonderful read. Michael
