they laying down as if sleeping

Volcanic Terror
Ashes are all around me, like a pompeii horror scene
Scorching lava incinerates the weak and unexpected
Demoralized survivors rise up and rebuild from nothing...

Pompeii Slave Girl

There was a young slave of Pompeii
Whose master had ordered her stay
But she made a dash
Whilst he turned to ash
Proving girls always have the last say....

Premium Member daring a volcano to get him
He stood at the crown of the volcano
daring hot death-making lava to rumble out
it was warm today, and there was rumbling
we took some pictures of him up there
making uncomfortable shaky jokes
secretly afraid it was Pompeii all over again
and these would be his final moments...

Pompeii
Sometimes I feel like such a jerk
To hear friends talk of long lost work
Few leave their homes
All had good jobs
From nine to five
Just working slobs
When all is really said and done
Where was real life?
Where was the fun?
So as the years now just roll by
And no one really cares a bit
To hear these has beens spew their wit....

Your Entrance Versus Pompeii
(A Variation of: Your Departure Versus the Hindenburg by Kenneth Koch)

Every time you enter the room
I see it as an extension of
      Pompeii
That great 76 A.D. volcano erupting
In molten lava like a 2-liter of soda exploding
     after it has been shaken.
When you enter a room,
people run in fear to
     hide from your presence....

The Night Was Red
The night was red
The air is full of clouds
Of ashes and shadows

The cry of sorrows
Starts to crumble
Beneath my feet

When the bones cracks
And breaks into pieces
You see the dark stories

Of their passing souls
That screams for their
Loved ones

The fires died down
The locals flees
It's the end

Like the pompeii
They're all gone...

Premium Member Mount Vesuvius
Pompeii at the top of the stairs,
Her negligee glowing like the moonlight.
The trancelike eclipse chases her to bed.
The milky softness of her gown —
birds like stars stun him to moans.
The thickness of her hair haloes the pillow
A mirror reflects his volcanic shadow.
The universe — the subtle kisses
the eruption of Vesuvius.
Seems forever at rest, in each other’s arms.

Pompeii
We moved inexorably
towards idiocracy
we slipped without grip
towards dependency
We prayed filled with nothing
but false ecstasy
we crept towards our death
instinctively
We lived as slaves
fully and intentionally

We are Pompeii, Herculaneum
the ones who filled
the stadium
Called for pitiless blood
to warmly run
worshiped bearded men
and starry sun
causation, ruination
living and dead...

Last Kiss In Pompeii
Mount Vesuvius erupts in anger
warm air like butterfly wings
flashes against our cheeks
I hold you my final light...

We stand on the edge of the sea
a galaxy of smoke and soot
swirls around us...

My love I wish
I had wings to carry us
all I have is my shoulder
for you to lean on...

Let us press our lips together
in these final moments
perhaps in the future
archaeologists will find us

As lovers preserved in ash...

Pompeii
Smoke and ash covers the sky.
Its day, yet it’s as dark a night
There’s wailing of children and women scream.

The mountain rumbles with Vulcan’s might.
Lava is the only light.

There’s no saving us.
Refuge won’t come.

Armageddon rains down from the heavens.
We feel a higher powers’ presence.

The great city of Pompeii will be buried soon.
We all must face our impending doom
as the screaming and wailing stops....

Pompeii
Pompeii

Amid ashes pumice lay
Life in cinders Pompeii in disarray
Vesuvius plumed angry swell
Archeologists unearth deathly knell

Volcanic vomit ample spume
from sunlight golden to darkened gloom
Roman bathing in waters pure
Nimbus of fires blazing coiffure

In 79 AD it's eruption did occur
No time to flee , No time for prayer
For sure a wrong analogy of mine
but this 'Furnace' it froze in time

thank you...

Premium Member Heed a Volcano Warning
May 18th, 1980
Mt. St. Helen erupted.
It was expected, many had escaped a bad fate.
Some opted to stay, wanting to go down in glory.
Two thousand square miles of trees were destroyed.
Mt. Pinatubo erupted eleven years later.
Both of these events reminiscent of the destruction of Pompeii.
Where twenty thousand people were not warned.
Many discovered permanently covered in molten lava
Volcanoes are no joke; heed her warnings my friend....

Three Short Poems About Italy
Capri

roofless cubes, spidery with wire,
cakes of azure and enzian;
above at the Villa San Michele
Rilke smiles down at the broken beaches,
at coves of defiant waves, compacted sea

Pompeii

a chessboard of honest stones
open to a sky of hushed shouts;
we huddle in a boned frame
of another life, a stopped day

Napoli

warm and secret, olive-eyed
an infinite beauty makes a new face
as we gaze ape-like from our bus;
an act of moment...

Dionysus
i run thru ashes of pompeii
and i bring good news
it's great food
and my grapes will come to fruition
but i sleep close to the street
next to the mummies
nectar and jam
my news is the same
as it was from the last time
do you recall
as
when no one held regard to the mother
then the blast came
do not give the
neoanthropologists
a chance to excavate
your grinning skulls
as
the rich volcanic soil holds the DNA of
thousands of dreamers...
