Premium Member Flavors of Naples
It's colder than snow
ready to soothe your palate
throughout the long day.

Three superb flavors,
taste them and dream of Naples
and of its colors.

While eating this ice cream,
explore that southern city
on the bluest shore....

Sex
Queen Johanna I of Naples
Reigned over the marriage bed
"No wife must yield to her husband
More than six times per day," she said.

And now you know the reason
Why they all died young, back then
It wasn't the spaghetti
Just cocks chasing after the hen!...

Bay of Naples
Silver filigree runs down to the beach
While sunlight glints off villas and cliffs
Into the Bay of Naples
Capri
Like a cameo against cloud and sea.
Olive groves make a mosaic against the hills
While lemon trees stud the valley
With jewels among the leaves....

Premium Member The Listener
...a phone visit with old friend:

Listen did I as he filled me in
on all the current doings
   of his life.

Then,
as a pause slid-slid-slipped
   into his monologue,
I said,
I have to move away.

Blink.
Blink.
And his narration continued,
...you know,
I thought
   I'd explore Naples after Rome....

Seneca Nation
People flock to Naples.
Monday, lunch-crowd
Says, "I'll take the
Graveyard--'Bob n' Ruth's' special."
Seneca chiefs continue
Their conversations.
Symbols speak in
Passionate tongues.
Who's listening?
The Bristol Hills know
That every tree and vine
Has a tale worth telling,
"Forgive us,
Our dearest Seneca brothers."

A chief of the Senecas chose to be buried in Naples, NY in the late 19th century....

The Naples Pier
They held my feet and many more
Those shattered planks ripped from the shore
Anonymous splinters now scattered to sea
Once proudly stood outside the lee

That giving extension of the sand
Once lifted our souls from the land
A bench to rest a rail to lean
A place of wonder and told serene

It gifted the site of dolphin or two
Delivered each day its readied view
It still stands proud in my mind
A pier, a view, and more entwined...

Premium Member My Farewell To Childhood
Sunrise was rising
behind the blue mountains
facing the stunning Bay
of Naples.

Ah! No thought was more
painful than my farewell
to childhood that had started
and soon gone!

Why was deep sadness
anticipating tomorrow...
weren't others wishing me
good fortune?

Why wouldn't a smart boy
live his happy future
where gold was a promise...
was it fear?

With an incredible
strength I carried my weight...
enduring many pains,
losing heart....
