Let it be known she lies -
Lies with the greatest ease.
Loved her I surely did -
Lost her I did that, too.
Laughed when I called her a
Lowdown cheat as her horse
Loped off with her lover.

She loped away with claws 
That could leap mountains
And did

We knew to not wait up
For she would be okay
She had a winged committee 
Of angel protectors

She was ours for a bit
But she was her own forever
Living her truth,
No one held her back or ever tried...

its tentacles loped off
lest they touch one
who came too near
their sting drained
vitriol and venom
adrift on a motionless sea
an oil slick calm of
“Hallmarkian” mediocrity
denying the rise of waves
the hollow roar of breakers
the depth of truth’s iciness
numbing the poets soul

Disturbed fits them to a tee

Trust in shallow grave
hastily buried
Face down in case it tries to resurface
Every helping hand loped

I was rolling along
just fine, thank you
until I came across you

Like a nail in the road, you poked a vicious
hole in my heart, and I went flat

And it was a rough ride
for a while there
and noisy, too-
ka-WHUMP
ka-WHUMP
ka-WHUMP
my heart pathetically
loped along
hoping you would return
to fill the hole you’d made

But now, it’s through, I’m over you
I have a brand new heart
and a much more
careful driver
at the wheel...
