Coy you are.
I saw you be a
Koi in the pond
When you swam by me.
Coiling colors
In swaying reeds...
Then a duck came,
So I ducked in the trees.
Form:
the ruddy duck swims
turtle watches from a log
polly wogs wiggle

Two hundred and twenty-six years I am told.
Is how many years this koi fish is old.
But who has kept track?
How far could they go back?
I demand an explanation, big and bold.
A koi pond brings meditation into vogue
She slows your heartbeats as you become one
With the gorgeous gold and black fish
One of the few you are not tempted to eat
or are you?
koi not to be caught
fisher breathed a sullen sigh
pond veiled in lilies

gold scales ripple through
the jade mirror of stillness—
one breath, then plunges
into sunken palaces
where water forgets the sky
koi swim to surface
sunlight shows their golden hue
breathe and kiss the sun

Her koi fish appear as cowhide
red and white instead of black and white
They swim around lily pads that have shaken off their frogs
I marvel at their swimming prowess
And the pink blossom of the lily pad
Koi glide beneath green shadows,
their fins like drifting flame;
the pond breathes slow repose.
Soft ripples blur where each one goes,
no two paths ever the same;
water lifts where each koi rose.

Green coin floats, silent~
dragonfly lands, kisses ripples.
Beneath, shadow drifts:
a koi’s gold swallowed by dusk.
The pad holds the weight of sky.
A sunlit water garden
turtle sits upon a rock
in contemplation
Koi swims by, an invitation
turtle slides in slowly
ah, cooling aqua

they must think I am color-blind or color-unaware
but I am aware, because I am an artist.
I am orange with black and silver markings.
how dare they call me a young emerald tree boa
what part of me is emerald? I ask defiantly.
Koi fish swimming sparkle as light reflects their colorful scales.
Their movements swishing mostly slowly
Looking for something unseen down under.
The film of water bends the light
Lying to our eyes about the reality below
Those beautiful creatures.
Only they know.
two koi glide past at an unhurried pace
representing courage and strength
symbols of peace and tranquility
reminding me to meditate
wait for my guides to answer
not rush anything
good luck comes to those who
know how to listen without interrupting
to know how to glide
the koi were lazy swimmers
they liked it that way
nothing stirred them up
on this lovely fall day
the air was breezy
the water was fine
no one was missing
they swam in a line
as easy as sleeping
as joyful as koi can be
they glided through the water
these koi owned by thee
Kara the koi faerie had a delicate touch
She loved her fish to such a degree
We watched her give them love, so much
In a way of wonder that was carefree
She sat at the edge of the pond one day
Her faerie wings perched beautifully high
Telling them good-bye, which was her way
They flipped their tails as if to say bye.
Fury!
Black striped and gold bands
your ghost feet
my shattered tongue
Oh love!
What madness
that fragrant flower!
lungs as balloons with air
That Time divides:
purple Pains &
pink Pleasures
Koi
carped the 5th
the judge laughed
and gummy bears hate
hungry lawyers.

She is as fleeting as the koi
twice as skittish
delicate and pretty
life has burned her
a naturalist, who loves Thoreau
a poet, who enjoys Coleridge
She dreams in color
a woman who has been hurt
To approach her, you must be subtle
honesty is the quality she must see at all costs
if you try to approach any other way
she will shut you out like the others
a lazy stream
meanders
under
sullen
midday sun
beneath
a rustic
wooden bridge
regal koi fish
ride
ceremoniously
humbled
glistening
glittering
rippling
gentle flowing waves

koi drift slow
gold circles ripple
fiery scales
lilies float
jade water, silent dreams glide
shimmering sunrise
green shell glints
sun-dappled surface
turtle slow
sun light drifts
ripples cradle ancient pause
within the koi’s world
furry paws
long whiskers twitching
tail swaying
gentle eyes
by the pond, koi flicker bright
our kitty dreams here
Blue sky reflecting in the koi pond
Rays of the golden sun sparkling
Bringing koi to the surface
Wanting to be admired
Showing their colors
Glistening scales
Like rainbows
Colors
Gold
And
Orange
Tone breaking
Surface for food
Causing wide ripples
To float on the surface
Where embracing the sun rays
The koi pond rapidly glimmers
Like cut diamonds will scintillate.

*japanese
koi In Japanese, "koi" is a homophone for love, another word that
means "affection" or "love", so koi (ornamental versions of the
common carp) are symbols of love and friendship in Japan.
Humans have their storks but not so in the Land of drups.
Where koi fish deliver new babies in polka dotted cups.
They are brought in by telepathy on the tail of a half moon.
Making their prospective parents giddy and full of swoon.
They are left in their carriers in the back yards of course.
Protected under the jurisdiction of a unicorn horse.
Don’t go telling the tale, it is not for other humans to know.
I only told you because you spied the drop and the glow.
we koi are not normally curious about debris dumped into our pond
This time things were different
A land animal had been dumped
One of the giant land animals!
We swam closer and found a channel open
Not that close! Papa Koi chided us
"I have seen their kind before.”
He had barely escaped one of them.
The pretty pink haired girl stared at the koi.
They were vibrantly golden, pretty.
She had consulted her runes this morning.
She was to find the leader; but how?
