Is it sorrow in canine disguise?
Is it pity empathic and wise?
Or is it not either
Nor sympathy neither
But hunger we see in its eyes?
It all started in reverent passion,
When truth could not be sold.
Our lover beneath us, darkness above;
Lords and tenants;
Kisses and thugs.
The Afghan’s a dog groomer’s joy
The definitive Lord Fauntleroy
But with all that coiffure
One is never quite sure
If the “she” is a girl or a boy
my dog use to listen to bach
while running around on the dock
till a gal pug he spied
with a collar tie dyed
so now he just listens to rock.
The most corrupt official around
was replaced by a young basset hound
Now mayor of Butte
he's tough and he's cute
barking decisions both honest and sound
An uncommonly spry basset hound
was annoyed when his ears swept the ground
But his spirits soared
when he got a skateboard
Now he’d Doggie Olympics bound

Chow bowl and the hound are at odds.
So sick of the corn and pea pods.
Begs make a mistake.
Bumps table for steak.
The hound takes no time for applause.

Elvis, a phenomenon back in the fifties
Shakin' his hips after Sinatra and Der Bingle
First of his kind
Girlies went blind
A trance-like fever grabbed 'em, made 'em tingle
He donned a stalker hat
and went hot on the prowl.
thick fog in contrast
The Demon Hound howled.
His wit is too vast
There was no way out.
Those tracks on the mire
Meant Stapleton had drowned.
The mutt
Followed me home
Determined, unafraid
Wants to fit into our family
Loves us complete and immediately
Lives with us until his old age
Determined, unafraid
Kept forever

Oh Sweet Hound
The world turns
Full of bright hopes
And dark fears
Love lost and found
And as it spins
Ever faster
There is just one
Source of joy
That never fades
And it wears your face
Oh sweet hound.

Someone stole our best hound, he told me.
He is eight, and angry about it in a curious way.
Maybe he ran away, I suggested. Maybe no one stole him.
They did too! He argues.
How do you know?
He came home dragging the dog house they chained him to.
He might be on to something after all.
The friar’s light, a deceiving light,
my nightmares deluding my mind
crossing the misty moors at night.
The friar’s light, a deceiving light.
Howling hounds affright – bite! They bite!
My eyes wide open but I’m blind!
The friar’s light, a deceiving light,
my nightmares deluding my mind.

Silence comes from her lips,
Not a word,
Nor a sound, nothing,
But a tapping noise,
As her fingers move quickly,
Along her keyboard,
She doesnt look at the screen,
But instead, watches tv,
Her fingers pause for a moment,
Letting the messages go through,
Then she smiles, and starts again,
The texting hound,
A non-stop machine.
A dog named Bailey
Is a basset hound
She would eat all day
If it could be done
She always wants food
Her stomach is never full
At night when tired
Her bed is made up
In the laundry room
a gate to block the door
the whines to what seems
Like hours on end
Whines so loudly
That seems like hours
Only ten minutes
Until it all ends
A discerningly keen basset hound
Watches TV when no one’s around
He surfs the remote
without taking a vote
until The Dog Planet can be found

Janice's Basset Hound
This dog is so quiet
Bella never barkseats
With her big brown
eyes
She will stare at you
If you say a treat
She gets excited
Then eats it quickly
When she wants to
sit
Upon the love seat
She will stare at you
Till you notice her
Taping the cushion
She will quickly jump
Settle down -then nap
She is so content
I know that if I ever do lose it,
It will be your fault.
I have acid stirring in my belly.
I'm a blind hound,
Running from the hitting stick.
Then there's you, the prosaic flower.
Your unimaginable summits.
Award winning expectations.
Higher than clouds.
I aspire to win your admiration,
Greedy for your grace.
I'm talking about popcorn, of course.
My wife’s amazed
when I station myself
at the computer
writing this or that
despite a hound dog
case of the flu.
So I tell her something
she’s probably known
about me for years.
I write for the same reason
a mutt barks endlessly
in the city pound--
It’s something worth doing
for as long as possible
until we’re swept away.

Of a coon hound,
you have heard,
there's plenty around.
I have found
a very strange dog,
who's nothing but a moth hound.
When ever you see,
he sees a moth near by,
the moth trys to flee,
it isn't any match,
as my dog goes after the moth,
and makes a wonderful catch.
He eats it all the way,
and chews and swallows,
he looks at me, now he wants to play.
wrote 6-14-90 about my dog Brandon who in the summer of 1990 ate hundreds of moths.
It was a winters night when his wagon came to a stop
He was so bitterly cold, that he warmed up with hops.
He would have played his clarinet, but no one was around.
I would love to hear you! Said a mangy looking grizzly hound.
So the old man took out his instrument and played his heart away.
He and the hound became forever friends that day.
He took him to the next town, and the rest of them after that.
They both agreed on one thing- they would never get a cat.
I walk with a swagger most don't have,
I talk with the sincerity some wish to have.
My words are honest and to the point,
My expectations are great and yet don't disappoint.
Life has molded me from nothing,
And yet from it expect everything.
My voice demands attention,
My eyes see through any deception.
My mind is a riddle none can solve,
My spirit something that will never dissolve.
The world is but my playground,
From being the rabbit I have become the hound.
Form:
As darkness takes our souls to hell
what has become of pleasant dreams
when death has tolled its final bell
no one remains to hear the screams.
Gwyllgi calls, the end is near
as demons dance across the land
their laughter chills a heart with fear
for fate has shown her evil hand.
Awash with blood to purify
the world of Man's eternal rage
no longer can our words deny
Gwyllgi's here to close our page.
And no demons shall rape and kill
for evil comes from Man's own will.
