Having less
suffering more
Doors were slamming
wolf at the door
Arriving first
finishing last
Spiraling downward
— perdition recast
(The New Room: February, 2025)
Dread dog
Shadowy flame of death
Guardian,protector of the ancient doors
Where in lies the underworlds breath
So beware the craggy shores of hell
Where sleeps the hound of Hades
The Angels
have gone
Only devils
are left
Clouds
die infested
With fire
beset
Pitchforks
are glowing
Coal burning
the harps
Grace lost
in the smoke
Tomorrow
— is dark
(Dreamsleep: September, 2024)
Gray,
Dismal
Rainy days.
Then leafless trees,
As it gets warmer,
All start to sprout new buds.
Migratory birds appear.
Abandoning the underworld,
And the ruler of the dead, Hades,
Persephone returns to Demeter.
Valley full of darkness
must be a blazing smoke pit
Some... call it Hades it's "HELL"
This place demons dwell;
Fiery torment a brazed
Eternal placement for lost...

Written words by James Edward Lee Sr. 2019©
Yet know this of the gods, and know it well,
That we and mortals form a single spell.
Dionysus, Hades, these are but tags,
They ease the tongue as back and forth it wags.
True names do nature spring forth from:
Once call our names and gods must come!
Death, the dutiful dismal doorman waits,
Depressed, opening each eternal gate,
Kneeling right, glowering at Heaven’s Gate;
Bowing left, grinning wide at Devil’s Gate.
With all souls passed through their eternal gate
Death drags Hades, gate left and immolates.
infant sucked up in red waters
old buried in the red pools
it's a pity
on a black day
dies Mr pity
on a pity day
in a pity time
into a pity grave
in a black out
it's a pity
when I looked into the skies
I could see heroes gone
before their time during the black day
There’s a place
in time
of no return
where you’re destined
for the end
A ride
straight down
with no reverse
to break
no longer bend
A final stop
on Hades
train
where devils
wait in line
With all
new couplets
in the flames
and nothing
— left to rhyme
(Dreamsleep: July, 2025)
Soft dandelion wishes in Hades
sprinkling passion softly into the wind;
Longing for love not dependent on fees,
to experience this the rules I’d bend;
Just a little taste of this oasis,
when is this unquenchable thirst to end?
Two wildflowers in a field of lilac,
I will always find a way to come back.
On thy flaming floor wailing,
No one to comfort thee,
Friends and families are no more,
All alone, it's not all right,
Nobody, to tell thy excuses,
No one, to guide thee right,
Thy tomorrow has ended,
Forgotten that it will cease, one day.
Thy new Earth, thou will not witness
Thy sins, thy suffering..

In the Underworld they drink pomegranate margaritas
I am certain.
If you had an endless supply of damned fruit to yourself
would you not do the same?
I’m sure Hades is sick of slender Persephone
in her pink rose perfume
and lilac pearls
telling him he drinks too much,
that he might just drink himself to death
if he wasn’t already there.
. . . and with a haughty drink
of Virgil’s water
from the River Lethe
I venture forth knowing nothing
bring on the steps ahead
and what awaits . . .
but the waters have a taste
and some things feel familiar
a few of the steps ahead
look like my footprints
turning to a river
I feel I once chanced upon
and sensing
I am but circles within circles
The somber sludge spreads forth,
swallowing every entity
in its path.
Vexed spirits burst free,
grotesque faces
all around.
This river that was once
pure and refined;
now tainted,
Now reeking of demise,
the body count is
untold.
This dismal bog has seen
it all from tin cans
to oil spills.
It once harbored life,
now it steals
your soul.
Strayed far from the nest
I’m fed up living with dust
for years fleeting shade
bereft
of melody
of spirit I sink to
the hades of utter loss
I can’t
reckon hidden mysteries
I have lost the sea
for a mere cupful
void of patience and
peace now as I touch the breasts
of the field I crave
for a pure breath
native to
my being I search
sweet savours
of love

Hades
Death I saw passing by my neighborhood the other day
Some souls to harvest
Intrigued by his austere appearance I approached him and asked:
"Why oh you mighty, Hades, we mortals terrified are at your presence?"
"Because of your ignorance", He enigmatically replied.

*Hades, brother of Zeus, Lord of the underworld. His name means the " Unseen One".
Swindling all the small things, Trolling graveyards
For ghosts that just don't seem to be anywhere
I think they live in the imagination alone.
Yet my fingers wave in the wind like leaves,
They ready to break off and fall,
Slowly - graceful like circus acrobats.
Eventually settling on the ground.
Mmm..I always did love the crackling
sound autumn leaves make..
Almost like walking through fire,
Almost like home..

At a lovely summer, I stare at the fading sun
Its a new place, I've been found
My arrival cheered by golden teeths
Men and women with diamond reflection
Its different out here, every star outshines
We walk on lilac skies that rain tears of life
Planets that give eden rivers in full splendor
This a place of royals they say
No weakness is found they say
Cause slaves and kings is all there is
And all I did was to rewrite my fate
Within the ghostly fog the gate
is waiting patiently for me,
who is grief-stricken that you might not await
beyond the copse in love's decree~
a gossamer whisper of a promise
that cruel fate has whisked away.
In godforsaken solace
I am left with this cold grave of dirt,
wherein my fair Adonis sleeps
in unrelenting night,
and no amount of mortal groaning
will release him back to light.
The Gates of Hades
today I visited your Grave my love
I wasn’t sure if you noticed
this cemetery is in a Godforsaken place
the knobby old weeping willows
lend a Ghostly tenor to the site
the wind blowing through the trees
makes a Groaning sound or
perhaps it is just my imagination
I am still Grief-stricken since
that time ten years ago when
your soul was taken from me
and lifted to heaven on Gossamer wings
I shall never forget you until
my time comes
