Obliteration de Russell...
women are part of the suffering,
the pain of separation,

A Warming Spring
A stored ripening sunlight,
opens veins under wet sods.
We are conveyed on the thaw,
upon the guttering soil
through the squelching narrows
of wayside hedgerows.
Spring mops and sops,
breezes furbish,
unlock a pearly dew
to melt the frosted prints
of paws and claws....

Glow
evidence shreds itself
in half-remembered candle glow
old photographs never taken
keep the clearest images
what fails to occur
changes
learns to walk
swim or fly
that which never was
becomes a shadow life
a memory in the smutch
of a guttering flame
yet
forever real...

Dying of the Light
On the table
The candle sputters
Flame flickers
Almost guttering
But does not die
At the table
A heart yearns
Tears form
As hope fades
She cries inside
At the table
A rhetorically thought
He’s not coming
How cruel
She dies inside
At home
Her heart aches
Her spirit breaks
She drains the glass
And she dies...

I do not know?
Spring Song
Mud cracks its teeth.
Roots crunch and seep
a stored sunlight.
There are open veins
under wet sods.
We are conveyed above the melt
on guttering rapids
through the narrows
of squelching hedgerows
toward the drumming
of new-sprouted stems.
Winter thaws in hollows,
pushes heat into slick droplets
for the sip and swallow
of greening throats....

Evidence shreds itself
in half-remembered candle glow.
Old photographs never taken
keep the clearest images.
What fails to occur, changes,
learns to walk and swim in time.
What is left frays and unwinds
in a fog of happenstance.
Such things are ghosts
in a jigsaw of light,
smutch in a guttering flame,
as clear now as then....

Wild Violets
wild violets bloom
touched by cold rain and warm sun
under nude oak trees
migrating northern flicker
pecking at violet’s roots
Inspired by: Andrea Dietrich

Written: March 18, 2015
Northern Flickers are in the species of Woodpeckers but they peck in the ground.
They are migratory and come through here in the spring..
A group of them is called a guttering, menorah or Peterson.....

River of Now
Skimming on a film surface
of a slow-motion river
I'm a clear tear on a
delicate twig balancing like a dancer-
Side to back to side, gliding, riding,
the brief sense of belief
in what's underneath.
I dive in below the water
My mind floats gracefully above sky
to cold blue, black, then light...
No need for eyes, open or shut
Blindness extinguished by brilliance.
My breath paints strokes of God in my lungs
I push out a guttering cry
Now, inhaling now....
