There was a young man named McAvity
Who resented that old Law of Gravity
He heeded a rumor
That values good humor
And now he is lifted by Levity.
Apologies to the little scamp
who marked on the edge of good humor
who spread his mess on the wall
Apologies to the blubber
mouth who ambled through a whole
half-decade
Apologies for the half-whispered
"shut up" spoken to lipstick queens
with too much attitude.

good faith,

for the traumatized company I keep
And more happily appreciated
for surviving
the predative
and privileged potential companions
I have prudently rejected.
A friend in need

arms and feet

can complete
An email or
ask for more
of peach tea
or more from me.
He is a friend.
We get along.
His body's weak.
His mind is strong.
His good humor
strengthens me.

It's snowing again by gumm.
Thought we had Jack Frost on the run.
It keeps melting and freezing,
I'm coughing and sneezing,
Early Spring in the North sure ain't fun.
The snow is a wet, sloppy mess,
And it puts my good humor to test.
When I go for a walk,
On the puddled sidewalk,
And slip down on the ice I ain't blessed.

brings to some a unique kind of cheer.
When the eggnog gets “Jacked,”*
the good humor they lacked
makes them blabber to everyone near.

Witty words keep me sane
A giggle eases, life’s pain
When times are trying
Laugh through the rain
Reroute the grooves
Soften the grain
With faces stiff
A snooty drift
Good humor sees
Life is a gift
Minus a grin
Hard work won’t win
May spot the crowd
But won’t fit in
So when you choose
Smile over frown
You’ll lift the blues
A joyful sound
Summer once meant days outdoors
To soak up all the sun.
At beaches, parks or mountain towns
We frolicked and had fun.
We cooled off in a lake or pool
If there was one close by,
While treats from the Good Humor man
Made time just seem to fly.
But global warming’s turned the heat
To temps that have us fried,
So many summer days are spent
With cool A/C inside.
Speak softly
feelings are real
watch your words
life is a big deal
handle your friends
as if an only child
keep good humor
love is in a smile
teach needed skills
to children in need
they are the future
plant good seeds
wisdom is guidance
from those who know
listen to the elders
sunshine to grow
pray a little prayer
sing a little song
life is waiting
time is ticking on

kindling of braided wax and flaming wicks.
Feel, smell, see, hear, taste
— for the Lord is good.
Soaked in wine, spices, candle and prayer —
cordiality stirred with gentleness and kindness.
Pot-stirrers of all that is good —
