When I'm Almost Gone

Been quite some time I have been here Starting my seventy sixth year Memory can leave me alone My private fortress, cracks have shown Oh, ebbing, trickling bits each day Doesn't hurt, it's really okay Some think that's just part of being Could be I'm finally seeing Sometimes I hide behind the rhyme Gives me that little extra time Since I'm slowly slipping away To write something better to say No matter what, hope is not gone Perhaps starting a brand new dawn

I feel like this all of the time! "Sometimes I hide behind the rhyme That gives me that little extra time." I am shocked there are two of us, Greg.

Caren, such caring remarks come from you. I hope there are more than just two of us. Thank you ever so for reaching out. Now that I think about it, there are many others here at PS. But I do hold your thoughts and writings in a special place. Namaste.

Can relate to that "slipping away" feeling, Greg. Jotting down a few lines and sharing them with friends here adds a lot to each day, but time becomes our enemy. Still, there is a new, hopeful feeling at the start of a new day. Your sonnet reads beautifully in both content and form. Best wishes, Carolyn

Thank you very kindly. Maybe I'm not completely gone yet. So good of you to comment. Meant to comment on one of your recent awards as well. You beat me to it. It's all good.
