Pinned against the bed
Your head pulsates to war drums
Calling for dreamshed,
Fending off the figmental
You fight for the best outcome
the only one who plays Joe’s drum is the dog
His tail bangs into it as hard as a stiff log
He plays it on the way out, he plays it on the way in
Bang goes that drum, this dog is not thin.
Santa loading his bags with all the toys.
He had pleas from parents of girls and boys;
No drums, guns of any kind,
No loud games if you dont mind,
In fact nothing at all that makes a noise!
Disco burnout,
fever rampant erosion
Empty glances,
mirrored hollow drums
Bleeding, starving,
passive alertness
Madeup, putdown
—treadmill run
(Woodlands Hotel: Wilkes Barre- January, 1980)
war drums pounding dirge
`peace, peace, when there is no peace'
quicksilver madness

Jeepers is playing the clarinet.
We have Sheepster on the cymbals.
Cowster is on the drums.
Why does Cowster always get the drums? Whined rooster.
No one knew the answer, but it is the way it has always been.
Pleasing Cowster.
Billows of druff marmalade
through my afterthoughts.
Only the course remains of a light heart
Carries us to salvation.
Begin with the sound of the drums.
Take your first step.
Breathe through your nose.
Believe in the world you have created.
Randolph Peter Best
thought he was a better drummer than all the rest
but his new band wouldn’t put up with such malarky
and he was soon replaced by Richard Starkey
*For those who don't know-Richard Starkey is aka Ringo Starr*
Water a mirror ,I sought after.
Searching for the source in shallow marshes
Ashes on the ground , dancing under the night sun.
Searching !
The painted night sky full of stories yet to be told.
Echoes of light drums beating encouraging her to search .
In my dream I see my brother
canoeing down the rapids
the moon behind him
blazing a trail
his heart beating
to the rhythm of drums
and the roar of bubbling waters
native blood runs through his veins

Atheist or Pagan
which gets to dream
reasoning stilted
spirits unseen
Rational narcissist
tribal taboos
if given the choice
it’s easy to choose
Atheist or Pagan
contrast to compare
the first in self-worship
—the second aware
(Dreamsleep: March, 2022)
the drums were silent
first time in many moons
little bear woke with a start
harvest moon winked
brother stars giggled
laughing brook gurgled
a movement in the bushes
little bear listened hard
but the drums were silent
was grandpa okay?
daylight would bring answers
I sometimes imagine
sailing on a blue sailboat
southward along Africa
an albatross soaring above my head
the scent of cloves and vanilla in the air...
as I am approaching the shores
of legendary Zanzibar
I suddenly awaken painfully…
still it’s wonderful to dream
with eyes wide open
Tho' right-handed
instruments the two do play
yet one is downside up
left-handed musicians both are they
or seem to sup
from a similar southpaw cup
and if you follow the trail of crumbs
they lead to Jimi
the Starr of guitar
and stick to Ringo
the Hendrix of drums
Drums drive the earth
for a smoother rhythm to gears rotating.
The magma within sure makes her run,
how it dances can drive one to tears.
Everyone says that when it's happy
a million scintillating stars are born in its orb.
Man will bow down for miles,
just give that snow globe a shake.
Congregated on a bone-white columned hill,
Wielding Thor’s great hammer, raging on at will,
Raining Odin’s thunder upon resounding blocks,
Indulging gilded beggars of fortune’s ticking clocks,
Deploying more and more to feed the desert gulls,
Fenrir’s pack forever howls, while bloody fangs indulge.

Bliss pulsates in our head ovoid,
love’s pristine essence, unalloyed,
looping form over front and back,
extinguishing feeling of lack,
as soma nectar feeds our soul,
borne of divine grace we extol,
felt within as magnetic heat,
suffusing us from head to feet.

Good governance,
the enemy of government
States rights,
oxymoronic at best
What works,
the bane of impostors
Who exist
to feather their nests
Revolution
is quickly fomenting
Change only
at the point of a gun
Voices from Concord
heard calling
With freedom not given
but won
(The New Room: October, 2021)
Commence the beating of the drum,
Sound the horns with fanfares blaring
Next see the floats with roses come,
Commence the beating of the drum
Acrobats, clowns, bands, then some,
All in the spirit of celebration sharing
Commence the beating of the drum
Sound the horns with fanfares blaring.

Our tam tams are vibrating
to the rhythm of the hunt.
Mighty bear is in the forest
showing his angst.
His claws are large
as the tips of our spears.
His teeth are as tips of arrows,
which fly to his fur.
Tam Tams are playing,
wounded bear is roaring.
Man outsmarts him with his tomahawk,
but no one conquers the circle of life.
A man did dream
And harpooned a Marlin
And brought with him,
But a monstrous fin.
A dame did dream
Of marrying a rich prince;
She cracked her urn
And broke her dream.
A man did dream
Of nabbing an assassin
But found in him
The greatest sin.
“Do dream, do dream,”
Ear drums resound,
But dreams – are dreams,
They just abound.
ghost now walks in the land
where the living died
the silent cry of innocent souls
hunt the night.
No more drums of war
for the drummers were killed too.
The night reek of blood
the smell of dead bodies
made love with the atmosphere.
Who will mourn the dead?
Who will sing the moonlight song?
For the night is quiet and calm.

Soon We're Running!
Spring's A Coming!
Blossom Buds There,
Where there wasn't.
All From Heel to Toe,
My Arching Feet that Go!
Oh, Cite the Spring That Drums The Breeze,
I Know.
Cite about Their Place, Moving with a haste,
Where the Autumn Season's Shinning, Great.
Running, Drumming, Running ... Boom!!
Watch Us Win, ... Real Soon!
rhythmic staccato
interrupts the morning calm
pileated drums
red crest, pointed beak
penetrate the slumbered fog
now the forest hums
crocuses burst forth
joyfully joining the dance
a welcome spring comes

Goosebumps
never fail to visit
whenever Emerald Society drums
call for a slow, steady, cadence
and bagpipers play Amazing Grace
at the funeral of a fallen hero.
Police and Firefighters
who have offered us
first, their service
and then, their lives.
Honored by those who stood
shoulder to shoulder, loved ones,
and others like me who
get goosebumps.
