I Hail the Critics
I hail the critics
That so doggedly denounced me
Pardon me for my hubris
They said it wouldn’t last
And they were right...

The Candidate
Doggedly pursuing all races, all creeds
hoping to please every last one
The hollow chamber on top of his neck and his shoulders
~ a blank check in the eye of each beholder

Beauty
Beauty
By: Tom Wright
2000
Beauty is skin deep
and therefore, over time,
grudgingly slips away.
Ugliness, however,
penetrates to the bone;
and having the tenacity of a Pit Bull,
appears doggedly locked on
forever.

Listen To Silence It Has So Much To Say
Converse compulsion in the dust of the day
Doggedly defying its din to abate…
For silence surrounds, it has so much to say -
Appraised to be golden, not measured by weight -
Cajoles with the cascade of calm in coy play,
Listen to silence, it has so much to say.

A Scratch One Has To Itch

"gym rust"

battle and
conquer;
challenging,
no doubt,
but a fight...
worth fighting.
with consistency
one starts to see results
if...
weight loss is top goal.

Dry Dog Days
Daylight is wide-eyed, it glares
like an angry samurai.
We are pinned down
naked to the piecing sun.
It's all too exposing -
the heat flays and burns.
A violent light fries sunscreens,
drills through sunhats
while we blink under gritty lids.
The humidity drains,
we slouch, crouch,
strain out our words.
Its’ a dry dog time
where doggedly nothing wags.
We dream of cooling winds,
of those days
when a salty sweat did not
dry-out our lolling tongues....
