PROGRESS

What happened to that coffee bar
With the pinball  machine
That focused our attention and verve
On Saturdays when I was sixteen?

Where did all those girls go
That wore flared skirts and white socks
As we listened to American rock ‘n’ roll
On the juke box?

They’re still around,  but changed
With time’s passage there;
And the phenomenon called progress,
Diluting the verve, damping the flare....

Nyla has a coffee mug glued to her hand
Spends all her time in the coffee bar, Latte Land
Must have fresh ground roast; nothing common or canned
Complains if she tastes one teensy bit of coffee sand

Nyla has some kind of weird coffee bean-loving gland.
Around this mug, her right hand is usually fanned.
Puts on airs, acts like she is ever so grand.
Trips to Latte Land are pretty much daily planned....

The wooden bench that holds many memories,

When I miss my friends 
the time we shared together
