Listen to poem:
finding his old letters
at the bottom of my drawer
caught me off-guard ~
it took me a minute
to catch my breath

It

It hurt me
It moved me
It caught me off guard
It made me feel like I wanted to Die
It taught me a lesson I will never forget
It made me show love and respect without any regret

Confusion

Hello beautiful.
How are you today?
I’ve missed you,
I want you back.
I’ve lost you.

Hello.
I’m fine, how are you?
You’re always on my mind.
He caught me off guard.
Find me.

It caught me off-guard-- my outburst of copious tears!
For Margaret Ann Brady's heartbreak over the years :(

Surrender

You are the most incredible man I have ever known. You came into my life like a compelling force of nature. A mighty roaring sea. Like a tidal wave that caught me off guard you surrounded me. Consuming every fiber of my being. Unaware that I was caught in the undertow. I was drawn into the deep, blue ocean with a power too great to overcome. I surrendered to your love .

Blessing Star

Your black hair shimmered
I knew not the reason
I watched it every little season
My heart and head simmered
Your shapely body twinkled
As if never would it be wrinkled
Yet it had a little lesion
Which never ever rankled

You were my heart`s queen
Those organs of sight
Just witty and bright
They caught me off guard
An angel is all l had seen
I zoomed heavenward!

Once But Nevermore

Once I loved a girl,
And I tried to give her the world.
Tried too hard,
Caught me off guard.

Now I don't care
and she says it's unfair
but what do I say
my mind was set that day.

The end was here
and her reaction, I did not fear.
For my mind was set
and me, she never will get.

Once I loved that girl,
and I was her world
She tried too hard,
She should have been on guard.

Caught Me Off Guard

Somewhere you are sitting
Unaware of how I feel
Then again maybe you know
How I wish that you'd reveal
Every now and then
I like to close my eyes
Pretend that you're with me
The dreams I fantasize
Honestly I wish you knew
The things inside my heart
Everytime I think of you
I wish we weren't apart
Never did I think
That I would fall for you so hard
Can't control the way I feel
It all caught me off guard!

Second Thoughts

The conversation was casual
But you had it planned
You caught me off guard
When you took my hand

You told me you loved me
And always would
You wanted to get married
And asked if I could

I was so nervous
I started to cry
Then you got nervous
And asked me why

I was just so happy
Is what I said
You just laughed
And shook your head

This day is not even
A year gone past
So why am I wondering
Will it last?

Premium Member Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word

Yesterday I was on such a high
Today I just want to sit and cry
Why did I say that cutting word?
Forgive me please I’m just a bird

Sometimes we misinterpret what’s been said
We get it wrong it’s all in our head
Saying sorry is really really hard
What was said caught me off guard

You’ve been really good to me
Helping to set my spirit free
Good times I hope we can still share
I write these words because I care

77 winters…..77
And each one snuck up on me
Caught me off guard
No rake, not enough leaf bags,
Too damn dark, too damn soon.
And the snowblower!!!!!
Dammit….gotta get fresh gas
Drain it, prime it …..and
Hope it starts
Before my shoulder gives out.
Maybe we won’t need it this year?

My new neighbors ask:
“why don’t you go to Florida?”
I laugh
As only a New Englander can
And reply….
“AND MISS ALL THIS!!!”

My daughter was reflecting
All the bests in her life.
			She caught me off guard.

			When she brought up
                 Her favorite memory ever.
			A giant box?

Remember when Tee and I were little, she asked me.
And you gave us the giant box.

We colored it, decorated it, played in it until it was in shreds.
We cried when it was gone.

Her favorite memory in forty-six years of living.

It meant so much to her, I pretended to remember

Your Love Caught Me Off Guard

Captured by your charm
Lost in your gaze
Scared of no harm
Yet shaking at the feel of your warmth
Begging time to stand still
Asking the stars to capture this memory eternally
Yes, I was caught
Lost in love's web

The night echoed our secrets
The day read up our history
Every one told our love story
No one tried to come to my rescue
For the reports clearly painted the picture
Yes, I was caught,
But this time I was caught
Begging to remain a captive in love's web.
