Preying not praying
Carnivore posing as plant
Death without warning
Entered in Carolyn Devonshire's " Praying Mantis" contest 5th place
Alligator scouts still pond,
unobserved his stealth movements
until thrashing body leaps,
sharp teeth tearing unexpecting prey

majestic dog gave me wolf eyes
amber yellow, intense, fierce
showing me his carnivore self
I would have been intimidated
if he had been a stranger
O circus, circus
the ox and his Fergus.
The whale took a bite of the moon.
The carnivore gasped to see that chomp.
And the pig civilized the baboon.

Africa’s joy
he enjoys the chase
making careful choices
antelopes flee before him
each step shows off his pure majesty
his mane serves as a pleasurable crown
Fearless agile sprinter,
Forges ferociously,
Fights on unrelenting,
Feline wild carnivore,
Faces its prey boldly,
Forestalls attack quickly,
Forward it advances.

Vegetarian fox invited new friends to tea
His old ones had disappeared rather suddenly.
After they were drugged, he remembered he was a carnivore.
He ran to get barbeque sauce from the fox next door.
Dainty flapper hippo gave us a wink and a twirl.
We saw her blue tutu spinning in an amazing swirl.
She is so delicate and pretty, and light on her feet!
Yes, said a carnivore, and she looks great to eat.
Burning eyes in the darkest night; sear through the moonlights rays.
In the distance, a mournful howling; cracks the air, in two.
Transformation complete; the quickening carnivore descends!
Carlos clever carnivore, courageous cosmonaut chimp
Tried twice to turn twisters, for he was an incredible imp.
Twisters tossed him toward Pluto, he went up in the air.
Whether he comes back or not, few of us gave a care.

She was a formidable predator; loved the taste of blood.
Did not need anyone cooked or braised; liked meat raw.
There was only one she-monster in the woods, which was fine.
The rest of us stayed out of her way, unsure whether she had eaten.

Why at war I have no clue
all I do is eat and chew
Don’t kill your flocks
like a carnivore fox
Or mow your crop
with a locusts chop
Of wood I take a tiny bite
for that you engage me to fight?

Panda Pete was an avid carnivore
Devoured small birds, snakes, and wanted more
Followed the Amazon River to Ecuador
where he lived with a meat-eating matador
these two had a great time shopping at a grocery store
purchasing steaks, roasts, chicken, fish, meats galore.
A grand tiger I am. My stripes are superb.
You need to leave me alone. I’m quick to perturb.
I’m king of the wild. A carnivore beast.
God’s molded me and made me top drawer at least.
A bragger, a boaster, now who would not be?
I’m all that and pure yellow, with stripes you can see.
A spotted leopard in a banyan tree,
Kept his yellow carnivore-ic eyes on me.
I knew better than to move fast or try to flee.
Big cats love a chase like Simon Legree.
His eyes narrowed, but I refused to see.
How fast that cat was chasing after me.
If I can just get to that tall tall….
He eats of flesh so fused with blood
A voracious appetite and not discreet
To kill and rip, to drink, consume,
Is what he does, makes him complete
He hunts and takes, with no regret
He’ll lurk then pounce, to make the kill
Fir him, not sport, not in the least
But all consuming is his thrill
I looked up into the eyes of a panther
she looked enraged and ready to eat
a carnivore who could eat our flesh pre-kill
her opulent eyes were unnerving and terrifying;
a slow smile came to her lips
I felt like prey
where would I run? how long would the chase take?
Big cats break your back and start with your head.

I am the stalker in the night
The hunter, the predator, the carnivore.
I am two eyes glowing bright
Frightening, malevolent, hungry.
I am the shadow outside your fire
Slinking, silent, unafraid.
I am here just look higher
In a tree, hidden by leaves, watching closely.
I am the jaguar
Always creeping, never sleeping, and one with the earth.
Form:
Butterfly Goddess,, I am in awe of your talents
of your delicate beauty and flying prowess
You exude strength and epitomize femininity
I watch you from the safety of these elm trees
Wishing I had half of your dainty delicateness
I wonder if you have spotted me, and perhaps
If you might be a bit envious of my yellow eyes
And my carnivore-friendly claws and teeth?
