Marshmallows roast
Vanilla scent
Floats, punctuating joy
Oh! gilded starry night
Memories
“Wake up, breakfast is cooking.”
Bacon in cast iron skillet,
sounds and smells, wafted through the tent.
“Coming”, the crackling bacon got me!
Would it be considered a fail;
to be pointless and to no avail,
to act and conspire,
around a campfire,
to tell a bald bloke a hair-raising tale.
The campfire crackled
As old friends tackled
The problems of the day
The problems weren’t solved
But everyone involved
Felt they had melted away
crackling noises
the only sounds of the night
I stared into the oranges and yellows
a therapeutic campfire that commanded silence
my thoughts sacred
Man,
The self proclaimed genius,
Figuring out the best way to build a campfire,
And then announcing to the stars
That he is on equal footing with the gods.
It’s so sexy a seducing sea storm.
A little campfire to keep us warm,
In a sleeping bag with plenty of thrills,
Shared body heat in the cold Scottish hills.
Lawn chairs arranged in circle.
Wood piled to build the perfect campfire.

Long ago in the British empire,
Lived extremely gentle vampire.
He, before lay in a coffin,
Loved to drink cup of coffee
And sing songs with guitar by campfire.
Sky’ turning from sun rising morning dew.
Camping in the woods green lit sparkly view.
Starting a campfire to make breakfast.
Then to the lake fishing for greatness.
Going to the creek,
Jumping off the peak.
Sitting around the campfire,
Eating s'mores and getting tired.
Going to the beaches,
And picking off leaches.

i’d color the sky,
I’d color the water,
I’d color the blue things,
until the color was gone,
leaving scorch marks in my brain,
and on my heart.

A glorious spectacle rarely viewed
The aroma of a campfire, nature's solitude
