The comfort of lights
Streaked across cafe Windows.
Noise like a blanket.
Cocooned by cacophony,
Refugee from loneliness.
There was a young thing from Peking
Who opened a cafe on a whim
She cooked up a stew
Hadn't a clue
Didn't know where to begin
under the teal night
at shared table we sit close
passersby unseen
your fingertips on my tea
a new masterpiece unfurls
We recently went to the zoo,
sadly there were animals few.
Until we all saw,
which caused an uproar,
giraffes in the café shop queue.
Meet me I'll be waiting
Rendezvous at Black Cat Cafe in Paris

Thick as deep summer night, lush and moon dripped
Wine sipped with dark delight
Banter rouses whimsey’s kite
Amorous thoughts taking flight
My fate to be a watcher…
“Regarder Les Autres”
and write from alleys dark but real,
salons for words ill-bred
(Le Grande Hotel Paris: May, 1978)
Café olé, did I hear someone say
Sounds latin to me, like olé José
As a baseball fan
It's part of the plan
Back in the 50's it was Mickey's big day
slow it down
pull it up
boldly rival
wind whipped
leather wrapped
beetle bright
coiled spring
chromed out
in your face
visors down
rev it up
Go!
Go!
Go!

or me?
In awe of this winter morning sunrise ~
Thoughts of french alps cross my mind.
I reach for my café au lait.
Breathe in and enjoy serenity.

Vanilla, hazelnut cream
Perfect hot or icy cold
Sugary sweet bitterness
Or maybe just expresso
Floating in a river swirl
A smile glistens on your lips
The perfect cure for ‘sleepy’

The road inside the house,
Ready to spell the book,
Leaning against the brick,
Humble as he took.
Praises the people made,
Of the prince of the ward,
Hatred formed inside his heart,
Plowing the craze from the pen to the sword.
simultaneous contrasts earthy perspective accents past pale mists
THE CAFÉ
Another cup of tea -
The corner offers some protection
Rainclouds rush the parting day to a close
And two lovers stroll in whispering,
Giggling and throwing off drops
After hectic sunlit trips to nowhere
- Evening is my only friend
from beyond his
vibrant palette
that bore all his
lifelong scars
is what I see
beneath his sky
and myriad
of stars
a scene of shades
and silhouettes
formed by the
yellow light
that hints at
The Last Supper
at that café
in the night?

Dandee Donuts was Dan's small café.
I served donuts and meals for small pay,
wore a stupid hair net
and what small tips I'd get
growing fat on free donuts each day!

from her handbag
she took some
prescription pills
while some frustrated
sexual fantasy
crawled up the ladder
in her silk stockings
and began sucking
at her ********
as she sipped
on her coffee
and speared the final
remains of the stale
chocolate cream cake
lavender umbrellas
floral teacups
fancy china plates
muffled conversations
dainty berry scones
crisp white doilies
shy looks
wedge of brie
cucumber sandwiches
tiny titters
chocolate truffles
crisp linen tablecloths
caramel lattes
fragrance of the gods
Paris Cafe
i found the perfect little table
in the perfect cozy corner
in the perfect quirky bistro
in the perfect part of town
as i head out on my merry way
they may as well cordon off the area
'cause when i get there ~ god help
anyone who may be sitting in that spot

I see my reflection staring back
From an empty cup of coffee, black.
And new lines that I have never seen
Have made an older man of me.
Typists and calligraphers alike, like me
Come here to decipher the human psyche
And through and through all of us fail
And eat plain biscotti with coffee, stale.
