Estuary

the strong tide greets the sheltered stream
where life's hereafter dares to dream

a place where screeching, circling birds
fall silent to breath’s final words

where memories once formed on land
are carried by the shifting sand

to where the river meets the sea
and on then to eternity.

Aqueduct

where ten arches span time across the Ceiriog Valley

sheep lie in green pastures beneath a Welsh / English sky

as narrowboats above steer the canal of Llangollen

through shadows of high summer’s still quiet waters by.

Assorted Short Poems

Poetry is an opened book,
that is not always understood well...

              Who makes this world hell,
            can never deserve heaven...

Every day with love and food,
right recipe for a splendid life...

You even pay to play war,
no one lives in this life for free...

                 Even for the non-fisherman,
                   the fish is waiting there...

A wild bull in the room,
it only causes damage to the owners...

                    Calculating the jump well,
we avoid mishaps and holes... !

The ball of life is yours...
all that's left is for you to learn to play...

Potion of water, sugar and salt,
it doesn't injure and saves life...

A Quartet Of Short Poems From 1973

(1.)
A Newer Vision, Of Paradise Lost

I went blindly into the haze
Left the purple gloom behind
If human life be but a maze
What does love do for mankind?
R.J. Lindley, 1973

(2.)
A Clear Vision, Of Death's Positive Hand

Altars of purple robed kings
Swollen with their stolen wealth
Yet one day they too, their death bring
Vastly improve their slaves health.
R.J. Lindley, 1973

(3.)
A Truer Vision, Of Humanity

Golden pails filled with sweet dreams
Life begging greater release
Man a vain creature of dark schemes
Pleading purple doom to cease.
R.J. Lindley, 1973

(4.)
A Sad Vision, A Much Deserved Fate

He wore purple cloak, and sad eyes
Sat upon a golden throne
His wicked life his soul denies
Destined to die alone.
R.J. Lindley, 1973

Note:
Hope you may enjoy this quartet of short poems,
Written by a 19 year old lad. I remember him fondly
And in his youth and vigor had hoped for so much more
Yet life gives what it gives and man must endure its
Angry pains, its losses and its failed dreams.
These 4 poems are exactly as composed 46 years ago.

Short Poems About Life

INNER CHILD
Let us not lose childhood
of hope ... this is ours
greatest strength...

    WAR AND PEACE
Do not cultivate war
at the expense of peace ...
Let us cultivate the love that
feed us peace ... not war ...

    REAL DREAM
Do not live in harsh reality
all through time ...
the truth in a milder dream ...

   ADULT CHILD
Let us be adults with a soul
of child so that life
won't be so stern ..

   LIVE WELL
Let us be responsible without
corrupt the body, and without
corrode the soul ...

God's Answer

Living a long life we lose so many we love
It feels unfair left with a heart full of memories
We question God why?
Live on be strong
Your wealth of life continue to share
For when the Good Lord calls you home
Who will be there to welcome you at Heavens Gate
The loved ones you lost before

                 Life Tree

Each leaf that falls
A life recalled
Is it sways to the ground
Returning to mother earth
Replenishing her soul
So new life may grow
To bud forth in a new rebirth

                  Uncle Marion

He was a strong quiet man
Words not wasted
The biggest tomatoes grew in his bountiful garden
Smoking his pipe in his old rocking chair
After a long hard day of honest labor
And he was blessed with a beautiful full head of hair

The Children

Children see the madness
in people just as clear as day.
They don't let lies and deceit get
in the way.

You can smile grin
or turn green or blue. But
the eyes of a child can sees
right through.

You
think you are wise because of
time and age. But a child's mind
is like the conscience of a
Sage.

Santa Cruz, the early morning’s
cold air damp and gray
than sunshine emerges gold and
folds into the maple and piney leaves
as curelium takes over high on the hills above
while over the ocean to the west still lies
the misty skies of blue haze

He sat and told me not to read
not NIH or Tumor Insight
or any such journal, he told me
to stop wondering what would be
when that happened he
and Stanford would tell me what I
could do. the disease was very rare,
at 2 years I was well beyond the norm.
he told me to enjoy the bright purple
sun laced flowers, the white intensity of
the moon, to walk my dogs
to watch them play
to be alive to the bird songs
before the winds and waves come crashing
through the darkness of the storm

ocean waves roll in foam
winds howl clouds darken streets roll
mother earth takes hold

Three Short Poems About Italy

Capri

roofless cubes, spidery with wire,
cakes of azure and enzian;
above at the Villa San Michele
Rilke smiles down at the broken beaches,
at coves of defiant waves, compacted sea

Pompeii

a chessboard of honest stones
open to a sky of hushed shouts;
we huddle in a boned frame
of another life, a stopped day

Napoli

warm and secret, olive-eyed
an infinite beauty makes a new face
as we gaze ape-like from our bus;
an act of moment
