As thoroughly compelling
At play, with each
Whilst so conspicuously lit
Face, heart-gladdened
No less blessed, whose shamefaced,
Trembly fear-sobbed
Fervent prayed outcome: Heaven!
With God as friend.
A cerise bite left by a pent up crush,
now our addiction can’t be hidden.
Every loud rumor put to a hush.
‘Please set me free…
please set me free…’
That’s what I said as you took me.
All I really wanted was my freedom,
the choice to simply take what I needed.
To say what I wanted and have you come.
‘Please set me free…
please set me free…’?
You flipped the script when you took me.
Now you’re left with my potent aftertaste,
dying slow everyday like I once was.
‘Please set me free…
please set me free…’
We are now chained to each other
but cleansed of the walk and the word
‘Shamefaced.’
Why did the moon rise tonight all red faced?
Is it embarrassed by humans disgraced,
By their uncaring disregard and waste,
On the planet they have trashed and defaced?
Why do they come up here with such distaste?
Leave all their junk here, with moon face debased
By their footprints and scats left here in haste!
With no thought for how it leaves me red-faced
Why do you have to come here so shamefaced?
Please stay at home and leave me unchasted.
With celestial body, clean and white-faced.
In the jumbled backyard of mind
they arrive in dark cowls,
gather behind an inverse eye,
wait there for the eyes themselves
to flip those images over into
a word chewing anger.
Manikins move in those shadows,
tussle in a muted violent parody
of action and reaction.
There is blood, it is dark,
it is cloudy.
War begins at the eyebrows,
mittens fumble
with small caliber ammo,
deadly enough but not explosive,
claws must grapple
beyond the roar of the pulse.
Suddenly you see her
not in her fury but yours;
storms subside into summer showers,
a mock performance of Othello
exits stage left, a shamefaced cast
comically admitting the farce.
"I am a fool
and I don’t deserve you."
Breast heaving, she turns away
to repaint her emotions
for a moment hating that she
loves you,
yet knowing she has won again
another blindfolded battle.
Life asked me, do you love me?
I looked at Life in silence, weighing in her question
Wanting not to hurt her, yet, wanting to tell her the truth!
Did you ever give me the opportunity to love you
Whispered I to it,
Refusing adamantly to make eye contact with it!
Did you ever allow me to love you
What I sought from you, I never got
Only begot I,
Dark pricks in my inner self,
Misunderstood by the whole lot
Trampled upon by the hooves of humankind
As if,
As if,
I were mere filth!
Life looked at me
Then,
Shamefaced, lowered her gaze
And looked away!
I am not to be blamed, said it,
I am ruled by your load of actions and reactions
If you suffer amidst my expanse
It must be surely because so do you deserve!
The silence that settled between us became stifling
So much that I swallowed my gulp, and sought out Love,
Love, who remains bent on his own ego
On his own crescendo, on his own rollercoaster
Why, if Life remains so hard to love
At least Love,
Even if, hidden in between folds of subtleness, remains my liberator!

Bonny Island
You, who are drunk on the palm wine
of the mighty Atlantic’s eternal fatuity
laugh and make vain in perpetuity
her attempts to blot you out of sight
Daily taunt the thundering waves
whose fury rises several storeys high
but succumb with a crash at your feet
returning fully spent and shamefaced!
Whose palms grow into the heavens
and bow to the earth like rainbows
or, trebuchets of the most bizarre kind
when heavy with ripe fruits and nuts
Who, in defiance to the year-round rain
always has her head above the deluge
bask in the ageless futility to drown you;
instead, nourish your rich vegetation
Arise, for you have slumbered too long
and severely lag in your so many firsts
you glory today at a handful of grains
while Vultures feast on your tomorrow
Arise, for gone are the good old days
when tradewinds brought you cowries
Guineamen are long and forever gone
now, you must create your own winds!

NEVER SHAME A WOMAN
SHE'LL OUT DO YOU
AND FIND PEOPLE WHO'LL
DO THE SAME
MAKE A MESS OF YOUR LIFE BY PLAYING
SILLY LITTLE GAMES
MAKE YOU TO BELEIVE
THINK ABOUT WHAT SHE SAY'S
LIE AFTER LIE
YOU'LL NEVER KNOW WHO'S
IN HER BED
SHE'LL LABEL YOU GAY
AND PEOPLE WILL CHOR4E
TO SAY SHE'S RIGHT
NEVER MAKE A WOMAN SHAMEFACED
SHE'LL TRY TO STRAT A FIGHT
SHE'LL SAY THE LITTLE MAN
BATTLING THE GIANT
WON, WHEN THE BIGGUY
BEAT THE BUM
SHE'LL M AKE CONTENTION FROM THE LIES
SHE WISHES THE WORLD TO BELEIVE
TURNING TRICKS IN YOUR NAME
FOOLING A WORLD TO BELEIVE
HER HEIIGHENED SENSE OF TROUBLING
WHEN KNOW THING GOES HER WAY
TELL PPEOPLE WHAT YOU'VE DONE
AND TELL PEOPLE THE THINGS YOU SAY
CREATE AN AUDEINCE
THAN THE MEN WHO WISH TO BELEIVE
CALL YOU ***'S AND STUFF
AND WILL REQUEST FOR YOU TO LEAVE

Door opens
And the door shall be opened,
At humanitys fall,
And the thief and the beggar, hoping ,
That the share is for all,
The evil and bad, will shamefaced be,
When the great judgement comes ,
Comes by air, land, and sea,
Conmen an shysters, all liars of course,
Will be caged with the dealers, of cars and the horse,
The bully so nasty will be made to feel small,
And the morally corrupted will swing off one ball,
If you don’t get a mention, perhaps you will be,
To sit with the Righteous, in good company,
Be good, be generous, where eer your gaze falls,
Our Master comes bringing some taste of the gall.
