Choirs For Tomorrow
I must feed
tough as tough semiprecious form of
quartz with banded colouring to
the backyard fungi with gills on
the bottom of
their cap, and then
mark history by
planting pitch forks around the
front lawn.

I am the gem that’s as green as the sea
said to be symbolic of purity
I maybe pure as sparkling crystalline
clear to peer through if one should intertwine.
Also found in blue, yellow, pink and red
with sacred properties the bible said
Able to ease pain and anxiety
peace will surround someone if wearing me.
Wear me on a fine chain around your neck
or on your wrist in a lovely bracelet
Wear me anyway that you would care to
there is no one else to please, only you.
Shade of wheels in Ezekiel's vision
and the twinkling of starlight emission.

Smooth,
yet flawed.
Tiny tears upon a mesmerizing palette;
like miniature beads
sewn together by an experienced hand
caressing its surface
the perfection unreal.
Yet time goes on
aging perfection.
Pushing the breaking point
guiding the cracks
between inseparable friends.
Heeding.
Until
only disaster awaits.
Colours fade from green to gold
as the staunch winter beckons,
its icy grip
intent on separating what was once combined
simply to create
some semiprecious whole.
As calmly as if everyday
one pines for forgiveness.
Intelligence in its simplicity;
I wait as we part,
drifting away like friends overseas.
The starchy, crisp leaf,
leaving its tree.

August’s dry winds scorch the landscape
While I sit here in the shade of a weeping willow
Watching tiny dust devils twirl and spin along the pavement
Living heat dances, wavering gently the scenery before my eyes
While poppies and gladiolas wither limply on their stem
But the peridot sweet, with its pale green color
Reminds me instantly of renewing spring
As the sun sparks a glitter from this
Precious gift I wear on my finger
Perhaps or simply perchance
It’s why it was chosen
This transparent
Semiprecious

Olivine

There are lots of people with birthdays in November.
The amount of them is quite a large sum.
In this big club, I happen to be a member.
My flower of the month is a chrysanthemum.
That word is a good stumper in a spelling bee.
Correctly spelled, nobody calls you “dumb”.
In November, there are not many flowers to see.
It is not a month with botanical pizzazz.
That’s when we see leaves falling from the tree.
My birthstone is the semiprecious topaz.
As far as jewels go, it isn’t worth much.
I’m really not into that gemology jazz.
We November people come through in the clutch.
In this great big world, we are the ones to know.

Rock forms reigning in the sea
Cast semiprecious imprints
As beach stones bathe and gleam.
Feldspar glitter glows gently
Over mica crystalline
As rock forms reign in the sea.
Pebbles play in the sea
Leave sand-filled footprints
As beach stones bathe and gleam.
Stones and bones wade free
Dancing cold-skinned past
Rock forms reigning in the sea.
Brownstone bodies lie in sleep
Then dawn swims in
As beach stones bathe and gleam.
Beach stones bathe and gleam
While day-star rays shine on
Rock forms reigning in the sea.
