Ocean surge, reflecting moon
Mermaids, sirens swim and swoon
Haunting song, night and day
Tethered boat just sailed away
Seadog specter with loud cuss
Shot himself with blunderbuss.

Erstwhile pirate ship revealed
Crew long dead their fate was sealed
Zombies scale tattered rigging
Captain Kyd counts his shilling
Sound of cutlass, who walked plank?
Bag of bones with chains that clank.

Lighthouse spread its haunted light
Spirits jump in mad delight
Ghostly antics in the deep
From Davey’s Locker spirits seep
Ocean boils with mystery
You and I will never see

Blackbeard

Twas never pirate more feared or revered,
than that salty seadog known as Blackbeard.
With his motley band,
and ship the Queen Anne,
he sailed the high seas to treasure he steered.

The Dark Sea

It fills me with trepidation
To sail upon the sea,
A heaving green colossus
Of such immensity.

No fetters can restrain you,
Borders you have none,
There are cold dark depths within you
Where many ships have gone.

Your beguiling siren song,
Sighs softly on the waves,
Luring unsuspecting mariners,
Where many find their graves.

A halcyon day upon you,
The sea like polished glass,
But a brooding sky forewarning
This peace will surely pass.

From calm seas, to raging fury
In the blinking of an eye.
Like some dark avenging demon,
Wreaking havoc from the sky.

So when sailing it is tranquil,
And the current it runs slow,
The monster's only sleeping,
As any seadog knows.

So batten down the hatches.
And stow away the gear.
Don't take calm seas for granted,
For oblivion is near.

Exiled - Sentinel

How do I hate this job
let me count the waves
Poseidon’s icy blasts
torment of seadog knaves

slashing at my heels
billowing candle snuffers
intent upon a darkness
denuded of all buffers.

Fear holds me frozen
awash amid the fury
victim of a crooked judge
and trial without jury.

Clanging shackles bind me
in service to the sea
doing time on foaming shoal
never to be free.

Th' Briny Whore

I'm a briny whore
wit' reekin' drawers
me honor ter make yer acquenchance
th' skipper's maid
me port's decayed
one doubloon, yer seafarin' urchin?

Yer scurvy rat
a-crawl wit' gnat
orf seadog scourged wit' rabid
yer cannon's immense
'tis cocked 'n tense
yer cutlass be yearnin' me scabbard

Yer stench o' sewer
me bits'll chew yer
bumps 'n boils 'n rottin' flesh
yer britches singe
yer helm unhinge
ter boot yer hornpipe thump 'n thresh

Captain's Log

Rescue parties in despair,
Spot his schooner drifting there
In the coming fog.
Someone heard him shoot a flare;
Naught remains, no hide nor hair,
Of the old seadog.
Fear is etched into the air,
Frantic scribblings make them stare
At his final log:

“Miles from any port or quay,
Sailing on the glassy sea,
I observe this morn
Something taller than a tree -
Wonder what the thing can be!
Suddenly forlorn,
Sweating madly as I see
More than one - in fact ‘tis three -
Massive beasts unshorn.

“Staring at the dreadful sight,
Chest is feeling mighty tight,
Standing on the deck.
Fearsome creatures; will they bite?
Gulping at their awful height,
Watch one crane its neck -
Scary, though ‘tis full daylight.
Will not stand a chance to fight -
Think they plan to wreck…”

Untitled #83 / Old Salty Seadog Fascist

An old salty seadog Fascist
sitting in the corner
rouses himself, makes his presence known
“I consider this to be desecration
Traitor.”
